Mundine entourage banned
Anthony Mundine won't be allowed to have an entourage accompanying him to the ring for his fight on Wednesday, after Boxing Authority of NSW officials reacted to the violence at a promotion at Gosford last Friday.
The authority has banned entourages and will allow only the four listed people in the corner to walk to the ring at three promotions in NSW this week.
The body, which administers boxing in NSW, will meet this Friday in Sydney to review the incidents at Central Coast Leagues Club last Friday.
Chairs, bottles and cans were thrown and supporters of the two boxers exchanged taunts and punches after Ahmed Elomar's shock first round knockout of previously unbeaten Willie Kickett.
The Authority will review video footage of the scenes supplied by Fox Sports, including some which was filmed after the television coverage finished.
Boxing authority executive officer Craig Waller said any announcement about his organisation's findings of incidents at Gosford would not be released until next week.
However, he revealed that in the interim entourages would be banned from accompanying fighters to the ring.
Three promotions are scheduled for NSW rings this week, including Mundine's fight with Uruguayan Rafael Sosa Pintos at the Whitlam Centre in south west Sydney on Wednesday.
Former super middleweight world title holder Mundine frequently has a decent size entourage for his eye-catching ring entrances but Waller said only the four people listed to be in his corner could walk with him to the ring.
The ruling also affects promotions at Mayfield Ex-Services Club in Newcastle on Saturday and a show at the Croatian Club in the Sydney suburb of Punchbowl the following night.
The entourage ban will be in place until the authority hands down its findings, though Waller didn't rule out it becoming a permanent measure in NSW.
He said he'd been told there would be a police presence at the Mundine show.
The police will also receive a copy of the Fox Sports tape.
Waller said the authority could only punish individuals who they had licensed and it was up to the police to deal with any other offenders.
