Last night he put on an incredibly flamboyant show and show-boated against the great Roy Jones Jr. like a true king of the ring. In fact, he made Roy Jones Jr. look like an average fighter.

To be a World Champion for well over a decade and to beat the likes of Chris Eubank and Jeff Lacey is one thing, but to then move up to a completely different weight division and beat the likes of Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. is incredible.

Plenty of fairly average people get knighthoods (Sir Trevor Phillips anyone?) so how about Sir Joe?!

but they were old men FFS

Norris v SRL,Muhammad Ali v Larry Holmes,Tyson v Holmes,Muhammad Ali v Archie Moore

there are plenty of fighters that have beaten up old legends but educated Boxing fans understand where those victories rank

Joe Calzaghe is a similar age to Roy Jones Jr.

They are both in their late thirties.

your an idiot if you dont understand the roles a fighters style plays in the longevity of his career

there is a reason Hopkins has had a more longevity in his career than Jones

work it out and get back to me :pat:

I don't agree with your ill informed views on boxing, but I would agree with you on him getting a knighthood. Considering what knighthoods were orignally for I think more boxers should get it! I know some of you from NSb may be shocked now but I actually think he deserves it as it will be good for the sweet science. He is also a good role model, unlike car crashers Naz and glass chin boy or beer drinking yob/chav Fatton. I would like to see him get this along with other gentlemen such as Henry Cooper and Lloyd Huneggan. Eubanks was a dick **** that guy. Watson deserves one too for his bravery. You guys should be lobbying your local MP's. It will lift profile and recognition of fighters.

It shows why we fail at so many sports, when we claim our sports people as the 2nd coming of Christ.

Yeah, we get the picture Chris Hoy can ride a bike fast or some tart can swim 800m fast, but lets reward them when they do something truly remarkable, like 3 or 4 times in a row.

Same goes for Calzaghe.

I'd rank David Haye above similarly to Calzaghe if he can beat the Klitschko's.

I understand that perfectly, but you labelled Roy Jones Jr. an "old man" when he is just 3 years older than Joe.

its like saying there is not much difference between a 16 year old and a 19/20 year old, there is a huge difference

36 is fairly old in Boxing terms 39/40 is VERY old

I would agree if he had of fought him about 5 to 8 years ago, but he took the Wank Warren root to the top. It took him almost 10 years before he took on any of the other champs.

If Joe was to become a sir I would officiall leave Britian. I can't believe people actually think this is a good win. might as well go on and say Danny Williams beat the best Mike Tyson the was.

That is true, but a knighthood for young athletes would obviously come after they retired. YOU can't wait for someone like Fergie to retire because he might die on job! You have to think about it in terms of relativity. UK is a small island full of fat kids, so what that tart and that geek did at olympics was a great feat. I Don't like Calslappy one bit, but he is as deserving as people like Trev and other bums who get the knighthood. It would be good for boxing. They can even give it to Barry and other bums like him because they have retired. He was only champ for a year, but that's better than what most other Ulster men managed.

Hey, if Gerard Houllier is worthy of the Legion d'Honneur, then Joe ought to be a shoe in for a knighthood. Don't think Lance Armstrong will be getting his L d'H any time soon though.

He has already met the Queen to receive his CBE and he said to the media afterwards that he was honoured, dickwad.

Anyway, besides, if Joe can be a World Champion for over ten years and then clean up his division how can he not get a knighthood when the likes of Sir Trevo Phillips (the head of the Commision for Racial Equality) has had one for years?

That was my point really.

Joe deserves one as much as him.

True mate.

Sir Salmon Rushdie is another one!

And Sir Ian Blair.

If those tossers can get a knighthood then one of our top ten best ever boxers deserves one IMHO.
