View Full Version : Rickson coming back?
wondermut 11-11-2003, 11:15 AM From Dirtbag off of http://subfighter.com
The Japanese media is reporting that Antonio Inoki is ready to offer Rickson Gracie up to USD$5 million in order to get him on his New Year's Eve show that will be broadcast on Nippon TV.
Rickson Gracie's opponent would be Kazuyuki Fujita.
Inoki is under a lot of pressure from Nippon TV to put on a card to combat the two other New Year's Eve shows: K-1 on TBS, and PRIDE on Fuji TV. Media observers are predicting that K-1's main event of Bob Sapp vs. Akebono will soundly beat everyone else in the ratings.
realkaps 11-11-2003, 11:18 AM Whoa. I was just reading about this on another site, Takada is pissed that Inoki turned his back on Pride. K-1, Inoki, and Pride are all going head too head for ratings on the 31st. With all the press Yoshida has been getting. Pride may actually get the most ratings which is huge for MMA, in any country.....
HockeyFighter 11-11-2003, 11:41 AM Pride will rule all. I don't want to see K-1 and their worked MMA matches.
Prince 11-11-2003, 12:01 PM lol, what the ****? 5 million for rickson? hahahahahahahahaha

Laugh all you want, but Rickson is a HUGE draw over there
I was ****ing this Japan woman the other night that barely knows about PRIDE. I mention a few fighters names, but when I mention RICKSON she had a bigger orgasm than the one I just gave her. I could see her getting maaaad wet from just mentioning him....he is a GOD over there. 5 million for him isnt ****
Plus, how can you laugh, when america still pays Tyson TOP dollar to box...and he has already prove he isnt jack ****
realkaps 11-11-2003, 12:13 PM Am I the only person who thinks Fujita will kill Rickson?

Fury Dragon 11-11-2003, 12:34 PM Five million dollars is a ridiculous price for ANY fighter.

They wouldnt pay him that much if they didnt think they wouldnt get a huge return from it
mmafanman 11-11-2003, 01:04 PM I doubt that this will all materialize. We've all heard the Rickson comeback rumors before, and I don't see how this is any different. But hey, it's Inoki's money so he could do whatever the **** he wants.
Stain 11-11-2003, 02:09 PM I doubt it'll happen.
Oh and K-1 will get the biggest reviews that night because Sapp vs. that Sumo guy is going to be HUGE.
They say it'll be more popular than Ali vs. Inoki
Bluecifer 11-11-2003, 02:13 PM Yeah, that'll happen, right after Bill Goldberg fights Alexander Karelin in K1.
DragonZero 11-11-2003, 02:43 PM god damn that is awesome news...and yes rickson is worth every penny they offer him the guy is a ****ing legend for christ sakes
Kempo Chris 11-11-2003, 02:45 PM Rickson will kill any opponent he comes to face

i will, i'm still laughing hours later. i laugh at people that order tyson ppvs and get excited when tank abbott fights also.
i know rickson is a big draw in japan, but this is just asking for trouble.
for some reason i see more controversy surrounding the way this fight ends than any gracie fight that has ever happened or ever will happen. probably will be one of the most boring fights to ever take place as well.
DragonZero 11-11-2003, 02:49 PM rickson via rear naked rd 2

absolutely.
maybe if he struck while the iron was hot then he could command a million $$ paycheck but nobody gives a **** about rickson and his flawless record anymore. his oppenents were b-level fighters at best and were unfamiliar with the majority of bjj tactics. he would get destroyed now.
and now that the majority of fans know this, they're not as excited to see him fight as they would have been say 5 years ago.
DragonZero 11-11-2003, 03:05 PM speak for yourself i'm ****in stoked that he might fight again. maybe if he wins it will shut everyone up for good i'm tired of all the rickson haters out here.

i wasn't speaking for anyone in particular but was simply making a point that the interest for him is nowhere near as great as it was back in the days. he can't command that large of a paycheck because he won't draw enough interest to cover it- especially with the competition that the other organizations have staged.
and that's why i think it's another bull**** rumor.
you plan on paying him a few mill? i didn't think so.
Mr. Beelzebub 11-11-2003, 03:19 PM In Japan people love him as much as Bob Sapp.

you do have a good point but i think that if people hear that he is fighting again for sure you'll see tons of people wanting to see that fight including me.and about the money you don't think he deserves it? i do to me he's probably the single most recognizable name in mma, everyone has heard of rickson
Purity 11-11-2003, 03:45 PM maybe his LAST name is but not his first. royce is 10 times as popular to the masses. not only does rickson not deserve that much $$ but i could name dozens of other fighters that do.
The Ensanity 11-11-2003, 04:11 PM I beg to differ...RICKSON name is waaay bigger in Japan than Royce...Even though Royce still fights...
Rickson is the most famous Gracies there
Purity 11-11-2003, 04:17 PM yeah but these fights aren't going to be just aired in japan.
The Ensanity 11-12-2003, 11:30 AM True...but they dont care. They know america is still going to buy it.
Hell, they have mainevented Fujita and a ProWrestler, Silva and Otsuka....Im sure a Rickson mainevent wont do ANY worst
realkaps 11-12-2003, 11:49 AM Dude, you gotta figure that the American buyers of pride dont even make up for 1/3 of there profits, its mainly the people in Japan that they are trying to sell this too. And in Japan Rickson = Ratings. Also, this will not be in pride, it will be at Inoki's show, and none of the three events will be available for US PPV......

Speaking of Royce, I have some reliable information that Royce is going to be training very soon with emphasis on Judo for a fight in japan against Yoshida. :)
realkaps 11-13-2003, 11:24 AM If Silva almost Triangles Yoshida(even though he had it on wrong), Then Royce dont need no Judo!
Curly Howard 11-13-2003, 11:28 AM hahahaha
mmafanman 11-13-2003, 03:55 PM Rickson vs. anybody will pretty much sell out a stadium. But for $5 million? Inoki should invest that cash on finding better fighters for his shows.

Exactly. If that had of been Royce on the bottom instead of Silva, Yoshida would have got choked out pretty damn quick.
