View Full Version : Poor production at Showtime
neils7147933 11-06-2004, 10:41 PM Why is it that in a fight that doesn't even warrant an undercard that has mercilessly hyped, Mitchell goes back to the ropes, bobbing and taking punishment, and I've got to guess whether he's still up or he's taken a knee until I see Mitchell fall forward?
They couldn't even show the knockdown from another angle between rounds or after the fight. Are you telling me that Showtime can't afford to have enough cameras or cameras in the right spots so it's just dumb luck if we get to see the action once it moves to a certain area of the ring?
Needless to say, I was disappointed with Round 2 because of this amateur hour production. This is pay cable and Showtime is #2 - partly because of this right here. This was a big time fight and this was a definite weakness in their presentation.

patto1984 11-06-2004, 10:47 PM haha GO KOSTYAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
marvdave 11-06-2004, 10:49 PM Showtime has always been second rate production..but they show decent fights, so who cares.
Hurlex 11-06-2004, 11:01 PM dont worry..when castillo owns casa...you will see it all :D
ELPacman 11-06-2004, 11:05 PM GO HBO! YEAH! Unfortunately I don't have Showtime so I miss some of these big events though HBO has bigger events so I don't care. I'll get it by other means of obtaining anyways :)

Pay cable for you. ;)

your so right
its crap like this that makes me realize why i dont get showtime
plus their movies fukin suck nutz
bets movie ive seen so far is
legally blonde 2 and that **** sux
back to boxing
luckily i didnt have to pay
Free Pre View Weekend
O yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
it feels like a freakin WWF show style
but not even cuz WWF has tons of cams and good angles of the action
felt lil like Fox Celebrity boxing
plus these commentators kept calling the wrong punches
and they even thought mitchell stunned kosta when kosta landed a clear nice short left hook i the end of 2
i hope this krap doesnt deter HBO and other events form coming to Glendale
i was going to go down and see if i could catchem arriving
but ahhhh fuk it
its just an old kosta "thoughts pre fight"
and shamba mitchell
restless_438 11-06-2004, 11:28 PM your so right

hey thats not true, The Italian Job was on right before the fight. I freakin love that movie.
ELPacman 11-07-2004, 04:14 PM Ok well I just saw the fight and as much as I probably wanted to get into it, I just couldn't. It felt like watching a completely different style of boxing on Showtime. Aside from the lameass announcer, whatever his name is, the camera angles did suck royally. The first knock down you couldn't even see it from the angle. Was so retarded. Another angle with like the referee in the way, such bull****. Then, I'm not sure what the deal was with this though how many hitting on breaks did you count? It's like, it's legal on Showtime to hit on breaks and pound the hell out of each other in a lock up(without hands free). I mean seriously, it was just BAD. It made me appreciate HBO's extra little things you don't pay attention to until your subjected to this crap. I wish Tszyu would fight on HBO. Oh well. Maybe I'll talk to my grandfather's girlfriend. Her son is the president of Showtime, I'll tell her to tell him to kick it up a notch, specifically in the boxing department where it blows ass!

I agree, I pay alot of money every month so that I can watch all the fight's when they come on (other than ppv, which I have to rent) and I expect more for my money too! It wasnt too bad, but there was a time or two when I didnt know if Mitchell was standing, kneeling or using the ropes for support; and the ref jumped in and saved him (was it a "save"....couldnt tell if he was already down or not) when Tszyu might have finished him off. With the camera angle like it was, it was a little second rate; guess thats why HBO will always be better.
I'm still glad I watched it and taped it ...I'll always have the 'infamous' rematch now atleast! ;)
tracylee 11-07-2004, 04:25 PM Aside from the lameass announcer, whatever his name is,
His name is Jimmy Lennon Jr., and he's been announcing for a long time, and is hardly lame ass....he's just not Buffer ;)
Tha Greatest 11-07-2004, 04:29 PM showtime just made a disgrace out of boxing
it was just as bad as FSN boxing
there was no hype for tha fight
their introduction is CRAP
they play some stupid rock song
hbo has tha best introduction
there was just no hype n they made mitchell n tszyu look bad
MikeHunt 11-07-2004, 04:31 PM I feel strongly both ways!!
tracylee 11-07-2004, 04:34 PM I feel strongly both ways!!
Me too, I mean it wasnt THAT bad, and I love rock music
tracylee 11-07-2004, 04:42 PM hey thats not true, The Italian Job was on right before the fight. I freakin love that movie.
I agree, Showtime shows better movies than HBO 9 times out of 10, and has just as many 'big named' fighters under contract as HBO does.
The commentators are the same 2 they've had for ages, so why last nights is standing out in anybody's mind is questionable to me.....nobody complained like this before over them, so I just dont get it at all.
The camera angles could have been better, but that isnt Lennon's or the commentators fault, its the camera mans

cuz that was tha first time i seen boxing on showtime
hbo boxing is really close to ppv

Oh, okay, now I understand. :o
For what it's worth, usually Sho does a better job with the camera, etc....even their ShoBox is better than last night's fight. As for the commentators, etc., they're definately not Merchant, Lampley and the rest, but I think that's a very good thing cause I can barely tolerate their bias and favoritisim on HBO . Give Sho. another chance and maybe you'll be happier with the next fight (maybe the camera man was drunk or something :D )
Neuraxis 11-07-2004, 06:02 PM I take it that this is the first time that a lot of you have watched boxing on Showtime.

I just don't get it. I saw Sharmba get KD every time and Enjoyed the fight. What are these ladies *****ing about?
tracylee 11-07-2004, 06:10 PM I just don't get it. I saw Sharmba get KD every time and Enjoyed the fight. What are these ladies *****ing about?
What ladies? Just cause some of them arent happy with the fight doesnt make them whiners or ladies
the camera angles could have been better, and sometimes the view was obstructed...it was a great fight, but could have had a sober camera man. I've seen many, many fights on Showtime, and I can say that they've done better in the past.
ELPacman 11-07-2004, 08:29 PM Yeah Showtime needs better advertising or something. Also it's true about not knowing whether he was in the ropes kneeling, crouching, whatever with the angles they had. Not even in replay did they feel they should change the angle. Pretty bad. The other sad part was that both fighters seemed to be BOOed coming in. I mean there was cheers though with the Boos so loud, it felt like nobody even liked both fighters, haha. Imagine that. Going to a NBA game or any ball game and both teams are booed coming in. So funny. Yeah the music for both fighters was lame also. I mean just compare HBO, Vitali Klitschko vs Corrie Sanders. I felt like I was watching PPV on regular HBO. Though HBO has really good commentators that make the fights like watching a tv drama so I guess that helps a lot also. I hate the Showtime commentators. I didn't even pay attention to them in this fight. Oh well.
abdiel2k3 11-08-2004, 01:58 AM HBO Boxing Completely rapes Showtime Boxing
in movies i feel the same
altho ur right about italian job
i caught lil of that b4 the fight
but for the most part HBO always has atleast one good movie on
and if they dont theres a good one on Cinemax
and i cant say the same for Showtime
this free weekend ****
and ive only watched showtime 4times
1 to see Tszyu-Mitchell fight
2 to see legally blonde 2 "my lil sis wnated to watch it i swear :o "
3 to watch Italian job
4 to watch school of rock
but other then that ud rather watch the movies on HBO

I've always have and always will prefer Sho commentators, unbiased bunch that they are, to HBO's "cheerleading" squad....PERIOD!
I was under the impression that the individual fighter picked out what song they entered the ring to?? Isnt that their choice, instead of the channel that is televising the fight?
jabsRstiff 11-08-2004, 11:07 AM I just don't get it. I saw Sharmba get KD every time and Enjoyed the fight. What are these ladies *****ing about?
Talk about a poster who has NOTHING to say.
The1God 11-08-2004, 11:21 AM A fight is a fight. Some networks have better fighters than others, but I will not complain over any fight. I wish Showtime would have had an undercard, they had a two hour block and only showed three rounds! The friggn interviews before the fight were longer. Kostya is an awesome fighter and he could make a lot more under King or HBO.

those guys were bias to kosta also
did you see how that guy conducted the interviews
when he was talkin to shamba it looked like he was hold back a laugh or a "Are you fukin kidding me?
when he asked him if he felt he won or was wining the forst fight
either way these guys might be less bias but they dont knnow what they are watching
they called a nice left by shamba despite the fact tszyu had clearly rocked him with a nice short left hook
i guess they talked about it good
but it seemed like just regular guys talkin about a fight
he hit him
now he hit him back
hes hurt
i like the hbo guys
they usually know what punches are landing or how he is setting it up
tszyu clearly sets up that right with lefties by blocking their view of the right with a nice slow strong jab
kinda how George nailed Moorer
but these guys were baffled as to how he lands it
when i saw him land it on judah i was convinced it was a lucky punch
but it clearly wasnt
KT knows how to land a left on a southpaw
even slick ones ,judah and shamaba,

Obviously youve missed some of the many times that Merchant, after having had too much to drink, got the fighter's completely mixed up, and / or Lampley cheerleading for the 'house boy' and he sometimes comes across as knowing NOTHING about the sport....he's made some very stupid comments before, repeatedly, and Sho commentators have a long way to go to catch up with some of the nonsense that Lampley and Merchant spew out on a regular basis! :D I've laughed so hard at both of them that I've cried ....some crazy **** I tell ya!
When Larry Merchant isnt totally disrespecting the fighters, I am usually laughing at some of the obvious blunders he makes :)
urdaddyinAZ 11-08-2004, 12:30 PM They only hand two camera men there, one of which was right in front of my view the whole friggin time. He was also very unproffesional.....making comments on the ring girls and ****....I can see why some home viewers could see it as a rinky dink operation. During two of the knockdowns the camera man had the camera on me to get a crowd reaction shot, but my friends said that it never made it on TV. My question is why put one of the cameras on me if you aren't gonna use the shot........it's a championship fight....get the cameras on the ring!

Absolutely...who wants to look at you!! :p (just joking)
I already posted that the job done that night was beneath what they usually turn out and for everyone to try and not judge the network itself on just that one fight. They usually do a great job and have alot of good fighters under contract ;)
Not listening to Lampley cheerlead is an added bonus! :D

I've never had a problem with Showtimes productions in the past. They are usually a little short of HBO's for various reasons....but boxing is boxing. I hate the HBO crew with exception of Stewart and Lampley can be good when he isn't bias. The two older clowns are ridiculous.

well since they dont show us the ring girls
i guess they figured they would let us see the hotties in crowd
lmao

The only reason I didnt throw Manny in there is cause just about the time I get use to him being there, commentating, he's off again busy with training. I wish he had the time to be there full time; he's an asset to the entire crew ;)
