Occasionally a fighter will win over someone they shouldn't and it is one of the worst things that can happen to a fighter because people then overestimate their skill and ability and put them up against people that are far and beyond them. I think it gets even worse if a fighter believes the hype.

For instance, Elvis and Horn is a good example.

Chuck has a lot of physical gifts. However his skill and endurance leaves a lot to be desired and it was clearly evident in his fight with Rampage - his hands were down, tired easily and threw punches that were visible a mile away. I was appalled by his performance in watching his fight in the last Pride.

What got me REALLY irritated though (moreso than his performance) was in the week beforehand I listened to a LOT of people go on about how great he is, how he is going to win the GP and I couldn't believe the dribble I was hearing.

I don't think he's not gifted but he is not the second coming of Christ for gods sake and I hope his loss at Pride really spells it out for those people who think he is. You want to see someone who will be the second coming? Watch Cro Cop when he gets better ground skills.

I was just getting ready to move it but someone beat me to it. It should be in the garbage. I remember Money made a thread like this when Fedor beat Nog saying that Nog was over rated. Funny how people jump on and off a band wagon so fast. Chuck is a great fighter who lost to two other great fighters.

Liddel did look bad on sunday Curly. I mean, he mounted almost no offence and looked sluggish at best

Getting beaten by Randy was solid. Randy is an amazing wrestler and one of the best P4P. Frankly I think Chuck just wasn't mentaly into it last night

How about a reality check... This ****ing guy knocks out Renato "Babalu" Sobral(who just won the IFC tourny defeating Jeremy Horn), knocks out Allistair Overeem, knocks out Guy Mezger, knocks out Kevin Randleman, wins a close decision over Murilo Bustamante, and also defeats Vitor Belfort.

Saying Chuck Liddell is "not that good" is very incorrect. He is a top 10 Light heavyweight, which is very ****ing good. Is he the best? No. Is he close? VERY.

And don't give me that garbage that he "got lucky" because if thats the case, then Chuck Liddell is the luckiest man alive.

Do I think he has room to improve? Yes, lots actually. Do I think he's "not that good"? No, I think he's VERY DAMN GOOD.

I didn't say he wasn't good. I said he wasn't THAT good.
Go back and read what I wrote if you don't believe me.

My point is, he is not as good as his hype. Sorry, you're not gonna disuade me.

There are fighters who are plenty better with just as much hype and much more skill. Crop Cop is a good example. We're talking about a guy is already nearing the top of his game and he's only had, what, five MMA fights? I won't take much more for him to be the top IMHO. All he has to do is work more on his ground skills and I think he will be near unstoppable.

I don't know much about Chuck's earlier fights but from what I've seen recently (past 3 fights) I don't think much of his ground skills or standup. Standup is generally his strong suit too which is more the shame. Based on the last Pride it was atrocious.

He was telegraphing all his ****ing moves, slow as ****, dropping his guard, etc. Jackson was ducking, weaving, showing strong counters, everything. Chuck was completely outclassed. I am not just saying that Jackson was better on the day, I am saying that Chuck's performance was woefully inadequate GIVEN his reputation. I hope he looks at that and strongly reassesses his training methods and the group he is training with currently.

I look at his profile, his recent wins/losses, his recent matches and I see a subpar fighter. Not saying he isn't good, only not as good as he could be - he has a lot of potential to do much better. I think he would be a worthy matchup against Tito but I think I also think Tito is leaps and bounds ahead of Chuck in terms of skill and conditioning.

First off, you did say he's "not that good." By the amount of people he's ****ing destroyed, your statement is incorrect.

This is different from what you said before. I also agree that he has much more potential, but still he is far from a "subpar fighter". In his "recent matches" and "recent wins/losses" that you looked at, Chuck is 1-2. His 2 losses are both to top 5 guys in the LHW division. Also, Chuck is 8-2 in his last 10 fights. Just because his "recent matches" are sub-.500, doesn't mean he's now a subpar fighter. His losses were to two of the best fighters in the world.

Well I'm not trying to disuade you and lead you to beleive that he's as good as he was hyped up to be. It's pretty obvious that Couture and Rampage both proved alot of people wrong. I'm just saying that Liddell is still an amazing fighter who is undoubtedly top 10, and maybe even still top 5.

I get yah. I know he's had a lot of wins I just think based on what I saw which was his most recent fights. For someone of his supposed ranking I would have expected a much more convincing performance.
