I attached a poll. I've found lately that most of my favorite 'new' artists or CDs I'm revisiting are being branded this way...

Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a genre that is defined in greatly varying ways. Allmusic defines it as follows:

Alternative Rap refers to Hip-Hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres - drawing from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul and reggae.

They only let me list 10 choices. Other groups that might be considered 'alternative' include Swollen Members, Black-Eyed Peas, The Pharcyde, Common, Mos Def, De La Soul, Pharoahe Monche, Digable Planets, Arrested Development, Jungle Brothers...

You must live in a cave.I usually only listen to rap but I've liked Pharrells production for a long time now. I just recently figured out that I must like the rock and roll thing when it has a little soul in it. My bad I'll be sure to come out of my rap cave once in a while.

First album=classic, 2nd album (black sunday)=classic, 3rd album (temples of boom)=classic, 4th album (IV)=very solid, very VERY well produced, 5th album (Skull & Bones)=very solid, 6th album (Stoned Raiders)=solid, experimental and still well done, 7th album (Til Death do us part)=decent effort. IMO, they have only one average level album, and that was their last. Their catalog is rock solid.

lol, I was just thinking about this a few weeks ago how some of these groups are "alternative". ****s been happening since the early 90s.

Even then it was stupid. If anything, they **** they pass as Hiphop on mainstream radio is alternative as it gets.
