View Full Version : Most brutal body punchers
JAB5239 10-31-2008, 06:07 AM I was watching the Hearns-Barkley fight a little while ago and had forgotten just how vicious a body puncher Tommy Hearns was with his left hand. Good God those were some unbeleivable punches he was hittingh Iran with.
Who are some other brutal body punchers that come to mind.
My all time favorite bodyshot is Roy Jones putting Virgil Hill down with a wicked right hand to the ribs.
I know he wasn't one of the elite, but Mickey Ward was a devastating body puncher. He just had a knack for landing that left hand in the perfect spot. I remember watching him fight some guy named Alfonso Sanchez. Sanchez was winning every minute of every round. Roy Jones and the HBO crew were saying how the fight should be stopped because Ward didn't seem like he wanted to be in there and was losing so bad. And then WHAM!!! Ward hits Sanchez with that Mexican liver shot and Alphonso went down like he was shot.
Who else?
BattlingNelson 10-31-2008, 06:31 AM Mike McCallum was a vicious bodypuncher. Hence his nickname 'The bodysnatcher'.
JC Chavez was a great bodypuncher also.

Out of the fighters that haven't been mentioned, I thought Gene Tunney had a great left hook to the body. He isn't known for it but the newspaper reports often mention him hurting his opponents with body punches.

The only thing is Ali rarely threw to the body: He was usually a head-hunter all the way.

I know, I wasn't serious about it. The only time I remember him throwing to the body was against Ernie Terrell.

Good call with Hearns. Some of his body work on Duran before the final KO was brutal.

Ali was a headhunter through and through
Necrophobic 10-31-2008, 12:44 PM Ricky Hatton. he may not of knocked down loads of top opponents out with them but i bet people like collzo and lazcano were pissing out bits of there livers after the fight.
baddest 10-31-2008, 03:23 PM roberto duran, whe he got in there he was clincial, eventually wearing you down to the point that you were hobbling around the ring. I still remember that hook to the body he gave monroe brooks
Aztec Wanker 10-31-2008, 04:17 PM bernard hopkins, mike mccallum, ruben olivares and carlos zarate (i think i read somewhere that he would make grown men cry from his vicious body shots)
The Jackal 10-31-2008, 05:07 PM roberto duran, whe he got in there he was clincial, eventually wearing you down to the point that you were hobbling around the ring. I still remember that hook to the body he gave monroe brooks
Ya Duran great body puncher broke opponents up with body work in all his big wins just look at the way he worked Leonard's body in Montreal.
But Joe Frazier hands down is the best body puncher of the lot you would be pissing blood for a week after him God knows how Ali felt after Frazier.
His placing of shot was brill it took everything of an opponent never see body shots like Frazier's placed so well
Uchi Deshi 10-31-2008, 05:28 PM Let's not be forgetting Antonio Margarito!
apefar 11-16-2008, 10:45 AM Joe Louis. His bodyshot against Max Schmelling paralyzed the poor guy, he was like hitting a heavybag afterward. . It wont hit back
Verstyle 11-16-2008, 11:00 AM A Prime Tyson was a killer with it.
The Jackal 11-16-2008, 11:16 AM A Prime Tyson was a killer with it.
Louis & Tyson brill body punchers but the way Joe Frazier placed them was brill he wore men down the old saying kill the body & the head goes all though Tyson & Louis threw them in combos the list goes on & on but the way Joe Frazier placed his punches & how he beat up men with bodywork a lone leaves know Q's as to who was the best body puncher its Frazier for me just my opinion.
