PRIDE EVENT WEEK: INTERVIEW WITH QUINTON JACKSON
Quinton Jackson vs Chuck Liddell is probably the most exciting match up on the card for Pride Final Conflict. We had a chance to talk with the man about his fight this weekend.
MMAWeekly Radio: How you been man?
Quinton: what's up, whats up
MMAWeekly: How's your traning going?
Quinton: Good everything is good.
MMAWeekly: Does your training change having two fights in one night?
Quinton: NAH I just train extra hard that's all. It's going good, I just gotta cut down and play less video games, that's it...
MMAWeekly: Less video games, what's your game?
Quinton: I got so many video games I don't even know half the names of them...I'm just waking up so I can't ever remember half the damn games...all I know is that it's Halloween, everybody's ugly..and I just woke up
MMAWeekly: You going out tongiht? You dressing up?
Quinton: Nah, I ain't going to be nothing, I'm going to be a fighter...that's it. I'm staying in my house, there's too many ugly people out there...
MMAWeekly: What are you going to do when people are coming over...
Quinton: I pretend I'm not home, I'm just cutting off all my lightes and laying low. I dont want any of those ugly people coming to my house and sh#t.
MMAWeekly: (laughs). This fight with Chuck you've done some photo shoot's with him, you've seen him fight plenty of times, what do you expect in this fight?
Quinton: I don't know what to expect, you never know what is going to happen in a fight. I just want the belt, that's all I'm thinking of, I just know he's going to try and knock my ass out, I'm going to try and knock his ass out, somebody is going to get knocked the fu#$ out, I hope I knock him out, he hopes to knock me out, we are going to for a mother fuc#$ing knockout. I will stand toe to toe, I ain't scared of him.
MMAWeekly: You look at this bracket, it's tough for you and Chuck, Is the bracket stacked against you?
Quinton: You can say it's stacked against me and Chuck. Vanderlei is the champ, he gets the easy road. Nothing has come easy to me in life or the fight game...some of the fighters don't pay their dues, they just show up on the big shows. That hasn't happened to me. Everything has always been hard for me, it's always been that way I wouldn't expect it any other way...If I win I'm the man, if I lose, it's all good. You know what I'm saying? I'm still the number one contender after this anyway and I can go get the belt from Vanderlei some time later....if it doesn't work out for me this fight. I still think I can knock him out though this time around.
MMAWeekly: You've told me before, you don't want to face Vanderlei unless it's for the belt right?
Quinton: I just want the belt. I will fight anyone I have to fight. It doesn't make too much sense to me to fight him if it isn't for the belt. You know what I'm saying? I want the belt. It's my job to win this thing...
MMAWeekly: Who have you been training with to get you ready for Chuck?
Quinton: People you don't know....
MMAWeekly: You been traning with Tito at all?
Quinton: A little bit...
MMAWeekly: I heard he has an injured hand...
Quinton: I don't know I've been working on everything...he's always injured, I don't know...
MMAWeekly: You been working on standup exclsuively to get ready for Chuck?
Quinton: I've been working on everything. Standup, Jiu Jitsu, everything. I have to work on everything because you can't predict a fight, you don't know what is going to happen in a fight...he could try to submit me, you know what I'm saying? You never know what a mother fuc#$er is going to do to you, you have to work on everything.
MMAWeekly: Whose got better stand up you or Chuck?
Quinton: Chuck has more expierence he had 20 something kickboxing fights. I will stand up with anybody. The thing about me, I'm not afraid to standup with anyone. I did that K-1 and sh#$. I dont' care where we fight. I know he's tough, you know what I'm saying, he throws one punch at a time so it doesn't matter...
MMAWeekly: We haven't talked since the Bustamante fight, when you look back at that fight what do you see?
Quinton: When I look back I see me trying to adapt to a fighter that I knew nothing about, I'm not a big fan of the sport so I never get a chance to see too many fights and see what guys can do. I really didn't know too much about Bustamante because I took the fight on four days notice. I thought I was fighting the other dude, Arona, not Bustamante. A few guys told me they tried to plan it out that way because they wanted Bustamante in Pride. I was reading a magazine and they said something about it, that Arona had been injured for a long time, so it seemed like he knew he was going to fight me, before I knew I was going to fight him. When I fought Sakuraba, I knew about him and it still took me a long time to get used to his style. I knew he knew ahead of time because you can't in that kind of shape in four days...It took me five to six minutes of feeling him out before I started feeling comfortable in there with him.
MMAWeekly: Were you out in that first round early?
Quinton: Nah if I was out the fight would've been over. He did have me in danger, no doubt. He had a nasty choke, but my coach was coaching me through it and I didn't give up, it was pretty tight.
MMAWeekly: Here's the scary part about the tournament.... If you win it, what are going to do with the money? Japan will never be the same...
Quinton: I know man, I'm going to have bodacious beauties all around me, I'm going buck wild. (Laughs) Actually I'm going to save it, but I'm going to get a sweet crib and lots of video games galore.....I will be thee man. You won't see me fight for awhile neither. I'm going to get fat and hairy...
MMAWeekly: (laughs) I'm sure you will have a lot of ladies...
Quinton: Hell yeah, they call me all the time over in Japan. I be getting these phone calls from these ladies saying "I'm your biggest fan and sh#t...." "come meet me I'm your biggest fan"....and I say how BIG are you? (laughs) Nah, I gotta to do my mother f#$cking thing write now. I got my son, living with me and stuff, I gotta look at my future, and his. I'm going to try live right. I'm from the street so I know what the other side is like...I want to be a millionaire, instead of hundered
MMAWeekly: Quinton thanks for spending a few minutes and good luck to you in the tournament.
Quinton: Yea man you keep calling me early in the morning...your lucky, you need to call me later in the day...
MMAWeekly: I know man we will have to tape it next time....
Quinton: You told me that last time....sh#$..... you know black folks gotta sleep.
MMAWeekly: (laughs) Thanks Quinton, good luck.
Quinton: All right then..
