View Full Version : Vanderlei Silva To Heavyweight ????
Curly Howard 10-30-2003, 11:08 AM There is a pretty interesting article on the portaldovaletudo website that says by next year that Vanderlei Silva will fight as a heavyweight. The website did an interview with Silva and here was a quick excerpt from the site.
"Is it true that nest year we can see Wanderlei Silva fighting as a Heavy Weight?
I'm already in the heavy weight, I´ve reached 100kg and I'm having to loose too much weight to fight, but next year I´'ll certainly do some fights in the HW, I did it last year against Cro Cop, I had some fights with bigger guys and I'm doing well, so, the guy who is big and if it's interesting for me, I'll face him.
Will you try to unificate the belts?
Yes, if this oportunity show up, I´ll catch it, once I´m unbeaten and people want to see me always with greater challenges. If well prepared, I can handle it. I think this is an upgrade in the carrer, and, not being smatterer or something, but I think that a fighter's life is made by titles, and he must always be running after the things. I want everything that my carrer can offer me, I wanna fight as much as I can, specially against the best fighters."
realkaps 10-30-2003, 11:11 AM It is on the Kakuto website as well. I was just about to post this. I dont think he has a good enough chin to hang with Heavyweight strikers. As someone on the UG put it, he should lay off the juice and stick too fighting at 205....
Curly Howard 10-30-2003, 11:15 AM I'm afraid he would get owned by a good HW wrestler for sure. He should stick to 205 lbs.
It would be interesting to watch....
lightweight 10-30-2003, 11:19 AM He's gone back and forth about this topic in interviews so he may change his mind about it, but I think he should stick to 205 as well. Him at heavyweight would be very interesting to see though.
He'd get tooled at HW unless of course he's fighting Japanese tomato cans.

lightweight 10-30-2003, 03:32 PM Silva is definitly the most skilled and well rounded fighter at 205.

Those guys are natural 185lbs fighters........This fight Henderson has coming up against Bustamante will be his first fight in Pride against someone else in his own weight. This right here prove's how ****ing good Dan Henderson is.....but, that's not what this threads all about.
Sakuraba on the other hand is just an idiot.........and, he's never been ranked in the light heavyweight division....not once.

Yeah, remember that time he beat that one good fighter that didn't have to come up in weight to fight him?
Me neither.
lightweight 10-30-2003, 03:38 PM Yeah, when he beat cro-cop it was pretty cool.

Wow, actually that was a draw.
lightweight 10-30-2003, 03:42 PM blah blah blah blah
He won.
Tanner Rhoden 10-30-2003, 03:44 PM Mirko Filipovic - Draw - PRIDE 20 - Armed and Ready - 4-28-2002
I just had to go back and make sure.......yep, nothing's changed.....it still says draw.
mmafanman 10-30-2003, 03:53 PM DSE's probably working on a Sapp vs. Silva encounter some time next year. That would be pretty fun to watch.
Curly Howard 10-30-2003, 03:55 PM Goldburg is supposed to have a three fight deal. Silva vs. Goldburg could happen

:?:
Fallout 10-30-2003, 10:53 PM Anyone that puts stock in that Cro Cop draw is on crack. Cro Cop was holding back because he was scared of getting taken down. If he had even a half way decent guard at the time, he would of knocked Silva's head off his shoulders and gone bowling with his skull
realkaps 11-01-2003, 12:17 PM Everyone knows I'm not the biggest Silva fan, but I believe Silva is more rounded than Cro-Cop and could beat him. But at the same time, I believe that CroCop could beat Silva just as easy. If it happened like last time and it went down, I could see Silva holding him down and beating him. Maybe even finish it by GnP, but then again CroCop is the greatest HW striker in MMA right now and Silva does have a suspect chin.......
