My wife's uncle is thinking about getting one built here. There's a huge population of my Flip brothers and sisters in Fort Washington/Oxon Hill area.

Do these franchises in California do well? I mean, I know I can't compare the population here in the East Coast to the millions in Cali...but just the same, how's the market penetration there?

That would be great as long as it's well advertized among pinoys in that area. I've been there and have lots of relatives there (Maryland).

The food is really not that great. If they want to succeed in the States, they should have free refills.

jolibee targets the pinoy taste, as a typical pinoy i do prefer their burgers over mcdonalds, but i am not sure if it will sell to other nationality...

i guess if the Filipino population in that area is not large enough it wont make good business...

What I don't understand is how come nobody has set up a Jollibee franchise in New York City where it is one of the most populated places by Pinoys.

I'm pretty sure tons of people have thought about this idea and they couldn't do it because:
a) the franchise fee is very high
b) Jollibee won't allow it in NYC

I still think it's (b) since a franchise fee can easily be paid back as long as the business is profitable.

SnoopySmurf, keep us updated and we all wish your wife's uncle good luck!

Sa totoo lang the jollibee (burgers) doesn't taste like the one in Pinas. Iba ang lasa meat at ingredients na ginagamit.....when I go to Jollibee, I order the chickenjoy dahil yun medyo kapareho.

Alin ang mas masarap? Sa states o sa pilipinas? Kahit sa McDo sa manila, iba ang lasa at sobrang nipis pa compared to the US.

That's probably why it's good. :D

I grew up there...and most who did would know that it's one of the best tasting burgers. (Number 2 behind Tropical Hut hamburgers) :D But for those who didn't it's understandable, they grew into a a certain different taste.

I grew up in the Philippines as well. I'm sort of a hamburger connoiseur :D. I don't want to know what they put in the Philippine beef. Makes me wonder why Philippines has one of the highest liver cancer rates in Asia.

As for chicken: it's harder to disguise chicken meat. :) It's not grounded.

I LOVE Five Guys Burgers! They make the best tasting burgers anywhere! My neices from San Fran came over and they were fans of In-n-Out Burger until they had Five Guys Burgers!

BTW, they do have one in San Diego
