One of my dads old friends used to be insulted if he was called "black". He used to say, I'm colored, just like everyone else! I like the way he put it, but say that now & some will be offended, unless they knew Charlie. He died about 10 years ago, but he was the neatest guy you could ever imagine. Used to make me laugh telling me his beliefs on superstition, man, a black cat ran across the road one time in front of us, I thought he was gonna have a heart attack, he was so sweet, I still miss him.

He used to tell me what it was like growing up back in the day... he'd call it. Horrible stories. He used to get beaten for drinkin out of a downtown faucet in town, when he was a kid. Yet he loved people. I asked him how come he didn't hate the people who did things like that, he told me, cause they were ignorant, ya can't hate people who didn't know no better. Ya had to hear him say it, it would have meant more I guess.......
