View Full Version : Is it true in the Phillipines
Iamnotausername 10-04-2008, 05:05 AM That at school you can just leave during the middle of the day, and **** around?
My friend is half Phillipino and lived there for a few years and he said during school they used to just leave and hitchike to the arcade and just chill there till it was time to go home.
Is this true?
If it is then I'm jealous! my school was strict as ****
Michelle21 10-04-2008, 06:14 AM schools here really dont care.. as long as you pass on exams..
Iamnotausername 10-04-2008, 08:25 AM Phillipino school sounds fun.
At my school, we had to ask permission to take our blazers off, and when it was hot and you didnt have to wear your blazer, the school called it shirtsleeve order! Seriously.

It actually depends on what school you are studying, I used to study in a private catholic school who won't even let my hair grow up to my ears.

I can relate to that! Uniforms and everything...
FatNJerseykid 10-04-2008, 12:49 PM I studied at a public school for a month to learn how to read and write in Tagalog. The instruction was good for what they had. The teacher was the only one with a book while the students had xeroxed copies. But, the teachers will hit your hand with a stick if you misbehave in school. With the bad kids who skip class and misbehave, my instructor said "wala na pagasa mga yan", which means there is no more hope for them.

LOL! Uniforms were worst, ladies had to wear "lady's sando" so boys can't have a glimpse to their tiny boobies.

I went to a Catholic school aswell. We werent allowed to have our hair shorter than a 2 grade. If you did then you had to spend breaks and lunches outside the headmasters office until it grew to an acceptable length. Catholic schools suck!

He probably did, he said it wasnt the best school. I dont know where abouts it is, but i will speak to him, and then I'll resurrect this thread so you can give me the lowdown on what sort of place it is.

He would have been one of the bad kids I would imagine!

What decade was it? Hitting or any sort of hurting students nowadays are considered abusive and are being penalized by institutions. My worst experience was when I curse my classmate in front of my teacher, she punished me by praying on my knees in front of our school grotto while my classmates were taking recess.LOL
-MAKAVELLI- 10-04-2008, 06:15 PM one of these days, during my annual trips home, imma find this one nun (at Espiritu Santo) that would smack my hand with a ruler for no reason...when i'm finally face to face with her, overhand right...

That was about 2 years ago, January 2007, when I lived in the Philippines for 8 months after leaving the U.S. Navy. I was 24 at the time and my classmates were 5th graders. I felt awkward being there, and even more when I saw the punishment, it is not abuse there. The teacher would hit the students in the hand if it got too noisy. It didn't matter if you were a girl or boy, she would hit them hard. They would say ouch and shake their hands after the hit. What can I do? She would have hit me too and besides that is the way it is over there. The kids are really afraid of their parents/authority. That was Public School, I hear they don't do that in a Private Institution.
Mr. Ryan 10-04-2008, 08:58 PM Schools in America are the same way.
Alexis Vastine 10-05-2008, 02:59 AM WTF, that's no big deal. I knocked off lessons in the Uk and France. Nobody gives a **** anyway if you're good at school. All teachers care about are stats. I remember missing a lesson one morning and my excuse was i went out last night! he didn't give a **** coz i got straight A's.
Idgas 10-05-2008, 04:58 AM from what i hear, the schools in the pi are pretty corrupt. my cousin that moved there graduated high school early and got her grades altered by her mom bribing the principle with...

Iamnotausername 10-05-2008, 05:17 AM Alexis of course I used to knock off lesons at school, me and my friends had a scheme of writing each other doctors notes and letters from our parents saying we had appointments and reasons for days off. It used to work a treat till everyone started doing it, and they started to not accept letters as proof. But we had to cover our backs all the time.
My friend said they just used to simply walk out and come back later and no one said anything!

I suppose there's a disciplinarian in every institution, anyway you should have reported that teacher if you think she's being too mean on her students.

Partially true. If your academic grades were short, you can gain points with some "extra curricular activities" like fund raising, contributing your money, buying "school projects".

You can go ahead if you want. But, it is very hard to change Filipino culture. The kids at Philippines are afraid of their parents and authority(except police). It's not like here in America where kids threaten their parents by calling 9-11. In America children talk back to their parents, while in the PI, the kid will respect the parent all the time. Unless there is no ugly bruises and marks, it is ok to physically discipline a child in the Philippines. Besides, the Police and the parents might not do anything. The parents might whoop their kids even more. While the police, well, let's just say the Philippines is the most corrupt country in Southeast Asia.

What im saying is that you could have reported it to the school principal at least, doesnt mean you have to go to a police station as if it was a heinous criminal act.

that's so true. it makes me a little angry when i see a kid in control of the parent. smack that kid a little! i got whoopings when i misbehaved and i turned out just fine.
kadyo 10-06-2008, 12:53 AM I went to that kind of school from elementary to high school.
bigbrother 10-06-2008, 11:37 AM I got whooping from my mother when I was small... but I grew up and still love my mom...
SnoopySmurf 10-06-2008, 01:07 PM Hell no. I went to two local schools: one in Pampanga and another in Batangas.
The one in Pampanga, the teachers knew if you were gone. They'd nail you to the cross the next day.
The one in Batangas, since it was a small town, that uniform was a dead give away if you were seen out of school during school hours. EVERYONE would tell your parents or relatives....AND THE TEACHERS. It would bring too much shame.
