Not to **** on Kid N' Play, but they suck. T.R.O.Y is one of hip hop's greatest songs yet "What's Your Fantasy", "Hot In Herre" and How You like Me Now is above it by a long stretch. WTF?

Also N.E.R.D's Lapdance, Lil Jon's Get Low, Cam'Ron's "Oh Boy", 80 Three 6 Mafia ft. Paula Campbell- "Hard Out Here For A Pimp" shouldn't even be on the list. This list=Wacketh

The list is pretty bad. The Block is hot makes the list? In Da Club top 20? Hard Knock Life number 11? How in the hell can Regulate be number 98? Pretty bad. Some of the songs aren't even memorable. 100 is too much but when I get the time to think it out I'll post like a top 20 or 30.

Wow, Warren G and Nate Dogg "Rregulate" is 98?!?!?!?! And "I Used To Love H.E.R. is 69? WHAT THE ****?

I understand that some of these songs were big, and should make the listbased on the overall impact it had on hip hop, which is why I'm not opposed to the likes of "In Da Club" being ont he list, but seriously, you have "In Da Club" in the top 20 and "Regulate" at #98? FFFUUUCCCKKK OUTTA HERE

Okay here's my top 10 even though it's 12. All of these could legitimately make a top ten list. It is really hard to condense this list.There were a lot of great songs/single in the 90's. And this list is west coast heavy. No biased being showed it's just that the gangsta sound was felt in a heavy way in the 90's.

Those are 10 universally great/influential/historic songs in hip hop. Neils you put together a good list for 100 songs off the top. I think I did that before quite awhile back, I'll try and find it.

I think what vh1 means when it makes lists like this is "most classic" not "greatest".

There are some great singles out there from some bad artists; I even would have included Snow's "Informer" but I didn't consider it 'rappy' enough, same as stuff off of Kid Rock's first major album etc.

Memorable, catchy, danceable, fun, lasting...there are different criteria ranking singles vs. albums and artists for sure...

You'll never see me doing a tough critique, listing Sir Mix A Lot on a "Best of" anything...

I didn't care for the list at all. In several cases, the artist had better songs than the one that made the list. Naughty by Nature had several songs better than O.P.P. Run DMC had several songs better than "Walk This Way". And "Baby got Back" is my least favorite song by Mix-a-Lot.

EPMD, Eric B & Rakim, BDP, Eazy E, MC Lyte - underrated. (how was "Pop goes the Weasel" and "What's Your Fantasy" rated higher than "You Gots to Chill" and "Freaks Come out at Night"?)

Puffy, Mase, Kanye, Nelly, Foxy Brown - overrated.

And wtf was L'Trimm "Cars that go boom" doing in the top 100? That was one of the worst rap songs ever made!
