A teenager has plunged more than 15m to his death as others below urged him to jump and then took photos of his dead body.

Shaun Dykes, 17, committed suicide from the top level of a shopping centre carpark in the English regional centre of Derby yesterday after police tried to coax him away from the edge, the Daily Mail has reported.

But a group of onlookers below shouted encouragement at him over the three hour ordeal, according to police and witnesses.

"How far can you bounce?" one allegedly shouted as others told him to "Jump" and "Get on with it".

Police slammed the youths' behaviour as "a shocking reflection on society".

"People were at the police cordon shouting for the man to jump," Superintendent Andy Hough, from Derbyshire police was quoted as saying.

"We really need the public to work with us, not against us. It was a very disappointing situation."

But one witness said while most people were screaming and crying, further disturbing behaviour followed.

"There were several groups of youths who ran from behind the cordon and looked like they were taking pictures with their mobile phones," she was quoted as saying.

Mr Dykes allegedly suffered from depression and had recently been struggling with a relationship break-up.

Ironically, his MySpace page said he wanted to die "quietly" when the time came.

His best friend, Lindsey Reid, said he was joker who "smiled all the time and everyone knew him because he was so popular".

Laugh? We nearly shat!
We had not laughed so much since Grandma died
Or Auntie Mabel caught her left tit in the mangle
We are miserable sinners
Fi-i-ilthy ****ers

I read that article in one of the tabloids in the common room today. I must say I cracked up at the how far can you bounce bit, as sad as the article was. Sad stuff. But surely if he wanted to kill himself he would have done it anyway?

Did the comments really influence him?

I always wonder if kids like this were just seeking attention but went one step too far.

If i was going to kill myself, i'd do it in much better style than that (and how most people do).

Why not skydive and not deploy the parachute?.

How high is 15m? It's not that high is it? I'm surpised he died from that really. I can see what the police are saying though, it doesn't ****ing help when you're trying to negociate with the poor cunt and some little ****s are shouting 'Jump'. They should have all been arrested for being ****s.

I think so. If it took 3 hours he was obviously in 2 minds about it. A bit silly of him for listening to obviously bad advice.

Man has always been a savage beast. This does not surprise me and I don't think it is anything new. the press always make out hoodies are the first ever generation of young bums in Britain even though they've had football hooligans before and mods and rockers back in 70's.

I'm not saying he would/wouldn't have but the tabloids are a nasty bunch.

It was probably one person making one comment.

Someone at my brothers UNI died on holiday after falling through a high window after a drinking dare, and they insinuated he was pushed by one his mates.

yeah the tabloids do talk **** but there is very rarely smoke without fire. I bet even if it was just one person he had a few mates with him and I can imagine alot of people taking pics of the body. This story doesn't shock me, I've seen people take pics of a car crash with an upside down car and a guy sprawled on the tarmac before.
