(Honolulu) -- Last Sunday, an elderly man died in a pedestrian accident near Market City Shopping Center in Kaimuki. On Thursday, a 14-year-old boy was killed while riding his bicycle in Waimanalo. The next day, a 30-year-old man died in a collision in Ka'a'awa . On Saturday, a 21-year-old man was killed in a car crash in Salt Lake. The latest accident occurred Sunday morning in Kakaako.
It has been a few years since Alex Garcia was winning yo-yo competitions with his good friend Ryan Kono. "Me and him decided to just play and we started getting better and better," said Alex Garcia. They lead a world class team and toured Japan together as champion yo-yo performers. Like many childhood friends, they lost touch. Now those days are gone for good. "It's hard to imagine it, waking up now thinking that he's not there," said Alex Garcia.
Ryan Kono died early Sunday, at the age of 20, in a crash on Ala Moana Boulevard. "As of right now, we just suspect speed on the part of the driver of the Honda," said Sgt. John Agno of the Honolulu Police Department. The wreck also killed 21-year-old Andrew Ngan. Witnesses say Ryan was behind the wheel of Andrew's blue Honda when things went wrong. Their car smashed into an oncoming sport utility vehicle. All three people in the SUV ended up in the Queen's Medical Center with injuries.
Witnesses say the Honda followed another car at high speed and was either racing or trying to keep up with it. Andrew's family marked the site with flowers, remembering the Kapiolani Community College student. Friends held back tears as they talked about Ryan's personality. They said he was never serious, always liked to joke around and was the life of the party. Friends say Ryan recently completed his high school equivalency and planned to take auto shop classes in community college.
Investigators aren't clear how fast the Honda was going, although witnesses say it may have been close to 60 miles per hour. 65 people have been killed in traffic accidents so far this year on O'ahu.

Both of them were my close high school friends.
