Hamdan promises to take five years of frustration out on Soliman

MORE than five years after Sam Soliman defeated Nader Hamdan on points to ruin his undefeated (32-0) record, the pair will fight again, in Sydney on December 3.

Hamdan wasn't pulling any punches last night when asked how he felt about the long-awaited rematch. "He is a fake. I am going to smash him. I can't wait to put my hands on him and batter him," Hamdan said.

"I am serious. With his pitty-pat punches, what's he going to do? The guy doesn't fight, he comes to survive and throws those weasel punches everywhere. Let him do it because I'm coming to get hit and hit, I'm going to bash him."

Hamdan's anger has arisen from years of lobbying Soliman's camp for the rematch to no avail - until he got a call from Soliman's manager, Stuart Duncan, recently.

Soliman, in contrast, praised Hamdan for taking tough fights overseas and views this as "a battler versus battler" event.

"I am the man who took his perfect record away; if I was in his shoes, that is how I'd be thinking - 'This is the first guy that took my undefeated record away'," Soliman, 34, said.

"I was 16-0 in kickboxing when I lost my first fight and I chased the guy for a long time and sorted him out.

"As I have always done, I'm fighting a quality fighter - I lost my last fight but I don't take two or three easy fights before a tough one.

"[Hamdan's] win-loss record (40-6, 18 KO) is better than mine (35-11, 13KO). I am willing to fight the best, a former world No.2- rated champion like Nader Hamdan."

But Hamdan was in no mood to reciprocate the love. "We were close. I've had him at my house and after our last fight, he promised me a rematch.

"Now, after all this time, they call - it's not for me, it's for their own benefit. But that's OK. I'm just glad to get an opportunity for redemption."

The two are world champion Anthony Mundine's most recent Australian victims, both having lost title shots on points. They will be fighting for the IBO super-middleweight intercontinental belt. Duncan said the fight card will feature speedsters Lenny Zappavigna against Lance Gostelow. John Hopoate and William Kickett will also be in action.

What a undercard worth PPV for me

The event has tentatively been booked at the Hordern Pavilion, three days before the monster US showdown between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.

Sadly this isn't PPV material. Robbing the Australia boxing fans for their money.

Sam via a boring UD.

I wouldn't call it robbery. If you want to buy it you can obviously.

But its not exactly that expensive either. I mean $29 is what they will charge, i will buy it, as im a big Lenny Zappa fan.

But considering the avergae income where i live is $1300, not trying to sound like a wanker, and the fact that most people blow triple this every day of the weekend on the pokies, its very reasonable.

Yeh it is reasonable. Considering the problems of poker machines, which people consistently blow money on every week.

I think the problem is, we can't be the same as the US with boxing. So this PPV is a must. We only have what, 300 registered boxers. When they have like thousands and thousands.

Having PPV's is the only way our fighters can earn some decent money. Well our second line of fighters, being Soliman, Zappa etc etc. Thus, its only normal to continue to put them on PPV.

We need to start thinking about the boxers, and not ourselves. Especially when we have such a small number of pro boxers in OZ.

Therefore, $30 is really nothing. Especially when the average income, in most areas of Australia is $1000 or more or a week. Also considering, wasting money in stupid activities, such as pokies, gambling, which is more then the cost of the PPV.

its even less then 300 fighters i think over here... but still i pay for pay tv as it is and thats pretty average. I don't want to be paying any more for this.
