I just turned 26 and have been watching boxing for nearly two decades now. I used to go over to my uncles house who lived down the street at a very young age and watch/learn about the sweet science. My dad and uncle were huge fight fans and when they grew up they were best friends with a heavyweight contender named Boone Kirkman. Kirkman was semi successful fighting the likes of George Foreman, Jimmy Ellis...they worshiped Boone and still talk about him to this day, they always argue that Boone would have kicked ass in this era but after reviewing a lot of Boone tapes I have to diagree. So my dad and my uncle got me into this sport a long time ago and I fell in love with it, the very first fight I ever scored was Greg Haugen vs. Vinny Pazienza 1, I am from Seattle so Haugen was a big deal back when I was a little ****.

Anyways I would love to hear how all of you got to be so passionate about this sport, there is nothing I would rather do than watch a good prize fight!

I was a fighter since I was 10 years old. I remember watching guys in my gym fighting and that really hooked me up with boxing. Also old Duran and Hagler fights. But what made me a hardcore fight fan was the Bowe-Holyfield and Tyson Holyfield fights.

I grew up watching Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Sugar Ray. Was first a big middleweight fight fan until Iron Mike came along. But the fight I remember that actually got me hooked forever was the Nunn vs Kalambay first round knockout. I never missed many boxing televised fights after this.

I got into a fight with my girlfriend when I was about 13 and I hit her with a hook so hard and this guy at school says, "Wow you look like Joe Frazier." I went to find out who that was and ever since I saw him fight I became a fan of his style. I went to a gym to learn how to box. Got my ass kicked a dozen times and decided to stick to not fighting other guys. I rather watch

I am going to honest I got completly hooked on Boxing from a video game :D . After playing Knockout Kings 2002 I became very interested in the sport. I started following it and thought to my self why didn't I find this sooner? Then I watched De La Hoya vs. Vargas and loved it. After De La Hoya vs. Vargas I turned into a boxing fanatic. I started ordering PPV's, videos, books, magazines, following it on the internet and watching it HBO. I just wish I could have found out about the sport sooner so I could have seen great fights from the past live. In the two and half years I have watched and followed the sport I have learned alot and hope to continue to learn about the sweet science in the future.

My dad was lightweight champion in the Paratroopers in WW2 so he was and still is a big boxing fan and this rubbed off on me. Plus my grandad smoked himself to death collecting the cigarette cards to send off for the Park Drive (cigarett brand) Book Of Boxing 1973, which I still have. I knew about jack Johnson when I was 8 years old!

My Uncles were HUGE boxing fans and so was my Dad, I apparently watched Frank Bruno on BBC from a very young age, I probably watched him win the ABA's on BBC and many of his early fights but can't really remember anything vividly. I then saw many fights at the Royal Albert Hall when I was a kid with my Uncle but I wasn't all that interested. The first time I Really became interested in boxing was watching Mike Tyson coming through the ranks on Grandstand, then Tyson beat Berbick on ITV and I taped the rest of his fights right upto Bruno 89, I watched Tyson's fights in his prime over and over again and became obsessed. I also took a fancy to Nigel Benn coming through the ranks on ITV, and then fell in love with Chris Eubank after seeing him fight Anthony Logan on a Benn undercard where he stole the show. The first big British fight I saw live on TV was Tyson-Bruno 1, then a couple of months later Benn-Watson was a huge and memorable event. Great stuff, I was definately hooked by 1990.

1. watching James Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson. Even being a Tyson fan, the courage that Douglas displayed in that fight and the way the electricity built as the crowd realized that they might be about to see something historical was great. it was a magical moment to me to see such a huge underdog come out on top.

2. arturo gatti vs. mickey ward I.
up until this fight all i had really been exposed to as far as boxing went was heavyweight championship fights. i never had seen two guys with so much guts and it showed me the side of the sport that i have come to love.

Old tape of tyson destroying tomato cans pretty much what made me realize how tough boxing is, and that it's no joke. before that I seriously didnt even think boxing was fun to watch, it looked like a stupid sport to me as a child. people hitting each other with pillows, big deal right? then mcclellan fought benn and when I saw what happened to g-man, i was shocked and realized just how risky the sport is, and that these guys are putting it all on the line here, this is some real ****. from there on, I was hooked

I have to say the first fight I remember watching that made me really like Boxing was Hagler/Leonard in 87.I was like 10 and my dad took me to some place where we watched it on the big screen in like some sort of auditorium......watch Wrestlemania III there too but anyway I was pissed at the result..... being from Boston I was brought up to be a Hagler fan but the sheer emotion and everything that boxing brings had me.I did not keep up with it as much as I would have like but started seriously watching every fight I could get my hands on around 98 and 99 and have been since. :boxing:

my friends dad would always throw a party when the big fights used to be on national TV in the early 80's. so i was influenced by watching the mega fights of that era. then my friends and i would box in the front yard for fun. it end up like a tournament with all the neighborhood kids. that lasted for a few weeks, but after that all settled we would box to settle our differences.

i was like a little chris byrd and no one wanted to fight me because they couldn't hit me. even the older kids were like, " he doesn't stand still, he's always moving he fights on the move." that pissed a lot of people off, but everyone was bigger than me so i had no choice but to give a little shake and bake.
and from then on i always watched boxing.

but not till i was 11 or 12 is when i started to follow boxing and learning all that i could about the sport.

i moved to vegas from long beach at 17yrs old and got to check out all sorts of gyms out here when i first moved and got to really know things inside the ring and out. i also got to see the business side at a young age and i found out then that most of the fighting and some of the harder fighting was done on the outside of the ring instead of inside.

now i'm totally obsessed. i'm just lucky that i can write about it and have two outlets for my opinions about boxing here at boxingscene.com and docsports.com/boxing............

I started out with Muay Thai, something I always wanted to do and finally got to do it... its still Muay Thai.

I started sparring a year after I began training, and watched Ramon Dekker's videos (the guy is one of the best kickboxers), and started watching videos of Tyson, Ali, Hagler, Mayweather and eventually Pacquiao (my favourite boxer who is still fighting).

in my personal training I just focus on boxing techniques first before moving to making use of the arsenal of Muay Thai (elbows knees and kicks). But I love to watch boxing fights... I should have got cable TV, so I can keep up to date with the fights.

when i moved out to cali when i was 12. i moved in w/ some friends of my family, long story. anyway, they were a mexican family and Ramon Perez, the father of the family fought on a couple of undercards for a great mexican champ by the name of Jose Becerra - i saw some old clippings of him in his trunks and posing for the camera and the more i asked, the more he'd tell me and i eventually got hooked, big time. since i wasn't his kid, it was weird how close it brought us, to the point that his biological kids started to resent me a bit, well i ultimately became like a son to Ramon and a sibling to his kids. being puerto rican it made the whole pr/mexican rivalry all the more great, w/ a mutual respect that lacks on these boards.

well the more perez told me, the more he remembered, and reminisced and not before long he's getting his entire family together on saturday nights and were all watching the fights together. i'm back in DC now, and just turned 26 and the guys basically my dad so we speak frequently about life, boxing and somehow always make it relative.

man i miss perez.

well after i learned about his career and becerra, i was introduced to el leon de culiacan and after that, tito.

the greatest fight that we watched together, where we like all lost our heads ... was the barrera/hamed fight, i'll never forget that fight.
