View Full Version : Saddest moments in British boxing history?
Khan-Fan 09-13-2008, 11:10 PM Okay guys after Khan's defeat the other night I started thinking about some of the saddest moments in British boxing history. From Herol Graham getting sparked to Hatton failing against Mayweather to the Michael Watson tragedy. List your top 5 saddest moments in British boxing...
Hagler★ 09-13-2008, 11:27 PM watson's injury (good to see him getting better)
hatton get put out in las vegas
the whole bruno debacle (gettin sectioned)
tyson doing Bruno over
Alexis Vastine 09-14-2008, 10:12 PM You might have been upset after the TP got banged out, but for me it was like Eid had come early!!! Yahahahahahaha. You know what I mean, and that!
Joe2608 09-16-2008, 09:27 AM Probably Hatton losing to Mayweather, it didn't bother me too much though.
seeing hatton getting sparked by floyd.
hattons such a ncie guy and seeing him get ko'd left a horrible feeling in me.
Squirrel 09-16-2008, 11:54 AM I have to disagree with the mention of Khan's loss; I think it's one of the best thing that's happened, i've honestly watched it at least 40 times now.

Squirrel 09-16-2008, 12:29 PM Elaborate?
Southpaw16BF 09-16-2008, 12:29 PM .The Watson tradgey
.When Ingle got streched out.
.Herol Graham always coming so close to winning world titles but never did, the man had so much ability, and when i think of some fighters who have held world titles and then to think he hasn't kinda sad.
Probley lots more.

yeah when thinking about fighters that should have been champions i always think of micheal brodie!
from the robbery against willie jorrin to the first injin chi debacle,
i think that mikey deserved more than he got.
it was obvious in the chi rematch how much the first fight had taken out of him so he probably would have lost it in his first defence,
but he payed his toll and should of had what he had earned.
the harrison fight was just a dash for the cash knowing he didn't have any big fights left in him.
i think that it is very sad that such a good fighter and all round human being just never got the things he deserved.
it was just one of those times that left a bad taste in my mouth as a boxing fan.
i mean wbc rules outside of america what was that **** about?
mikey fought most of the fight with a massive gash on his head just to learn that he had been deducted points for it.
shame on you jose suiliman!! shame on you!!!
RonRoss 09-16-2008, 01:56 PM Most have been recent to be honest ...
Hatton - Ko'd
Khan - Ko'd
Witter - Outclassed
Calzaghe looked **** against Hopkins too and if he performs like that against Jones he will get beat, Jones isn't thick as **** and won't throw half a punch a round ... British boxing doesn't look good.
On the other hand .. We have a lot of prospects and all the fighters mentioned have some good performances left in them.
Alexis Vastine 09-16-2008, 07:36 PM Witter and Khan were nobodies, what on earth was sad about that moment!? Hatton was a full of **** chav, I celebrated that one like it was Istanbul again!
I would say i was more saddened by the jolly guys getting battered even though it was expected such as Danny William by the Klit and Lennox Lewis too!
When Calslappy robbed Hopkins after being put on his arse and outboxed, that was a truly sad moment for British boxing.
Muttley85 09-16-2008, 09:21 PM Okay guys after Khan's defeat the other night I started thinking about some of the saddest moments in British boxing history.
Khan was getting half a million quid to fight bums and soaking up much more praise and attention than he deserved. It was sweet retribution when he got KTFO.
Bruno coming apart against Tyson (x2) and Witherspoon was sad. Also felt for Howard Eastman when he got robbed against Joppy, he'd been through a lot and really earned that.
Mayfeather 09-17-2008, 06:00 AM Obviosuly the watson tradegy stands out as a very sad moment for everyone.
I was absolutely gutted to see hatton knocked out & also hated seeing Naseem loose
Seeing Nigel Benn retire was a very sad point for me aswell
Audley harrison stating he can still win a world title, last week.
:Thinkingo
I've not been into boxing very long, but so far its been Hatton' loss to Mayweather.
Mayfeather 09-17-2008, 06:18 AM that is quite a funny moment haha
teamwork7 09-17-2008, 06:40 AM to be honest Tyson losing to danny williams, i think for me it signalled something that they heavy weight division no longer carried it weisght, so to speak, but that was a shocker, when williams put him down.
Mayfeather 09-17-2008, 06:43 AM Yeah I remeber watching that one in a bar in Greece and I was the only brit cheering on Tyson haha
ATFsven 09-17-2008, 07:32 AM The Ingle fight when in the last round you knew **** was going bad. :(
that was **** to watch.
Also Hamed getting outclassed start to finish by Marco.
Hatton getting ko'd by mayweather was sad also but it was pretty much expected!
ATFsven 09-17-2008, 10:11 AM oh and Brodie Chi 2
that **** was horrible to watch. he was a fighter that deserved the title in my opinion and him getting battered to **** was horrid.

Which Ingle fight? when he got hospitalised?
Naz V Barrera wasn't that bad. At least he did not get knocked out like the brawling bum Fatton and won a few rounds at least. Fatty didn't even win one! Outboxed and beaten to a pulp in each round. he went down like a pure bum!
Audley harrison stating he can still win a world title, last week.
:Thinkingo
I've not been into boxing very long, but so far its been Hatton' loss to Mayweather. That was a cause for celebration! Who wants a chav to represent British boxing?
Hagler★ 09-17-2008, 11:02 PM judging by the fact you hav a ****in dipper in your sig i can see why you have a little hatred for hatton being that he is a manc but he is an a class guy so to see that happen real wasnt nice
and if you think el zahar is the future of football your better off with boxing
Clegg 09-18-2008, 12:03 AM The Ingle fight when in the last round you knew **** was going bad. :(

Yeah I remember that Ingle fight, I watched it again recently. They should have pulled him out before the last round, although it's easy to say that now I guess.
Another one was Spencer Oliver. I remember them taking him out of the ring on a stretcher and being really worried.
Yaman 09-18-2008, 06:14 AM Gerald McClellan vs Nigel Benn in a way. It was one hell of a comeback, but it ended one fighter's career, and finished off the other. That was a real tragedy.

Yeah he looked proper ****ed and his punches had zero effect on the other bloke in the last couple of rounds. easy to say now but he shouldnt have been allowed out for the final round.. damage was probably already done tho i reckon.
Trippy 09-18-2008, 09:02 AM Watson, without a doubt. There's people losing fights, but at the end of the day that's part of the sport, they come out with nothing more than a hurt ego, but what happened to Watson nearly killed him and has change his life and severely damaged his permanent health.
The Wire 09-20-2008, 03:27 PM yeah when thinking about fighters that should have been champions i always think of micheal brodie!

Yeah Mikey not winning a world title was sad. I was at Chi 1 and 2 and the Harrison fight, gutted each time. Against Chi I thought he should have got the decision the first time, but what can you say. The second time I was really gutted for ages, it ruined the whole night lol. It said a while back in boxing news that he was coming back, anyone know anything about that?

Anderson is **** mate, but never mind. El Zhar is much better than him and he was free! Scored more goals too in the past season, even though he was only a sub in the Carling Cup! Also, look up the phrase tongue in cheek. Not tongue in bum yeah, i ain't a brit.
As for Fatty's 'have' image, it is all fake. He is a chav and a wanker and it was great to see his obnoxious arse on the floor. He was a bum, and it was good to see the tabloid myth being exploded.
Nothing personal against fatty though, just annoyed by mainstream british press and their fake hype. Many of the people watching and thinking he would win had never even heard of Mayweather. They would exclim it too,LOL.

anderson premiership and cl winner>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> el zahar nothing :lol1: uFail
ironalex 09-23-2008, 12:16 PM worst memories in british boxing:
gerald mcclenan vs nigel benn
eubank vs watson
ingle
all the tragedies really.
didnt care what happened to khan, he got what was coming to him, the amount of people hes dissrespected in this industry, including warrious such as gomez and earl, and then calling out people...who he aint good enough to tie their shoe laces a la paquaio, campbell and even katsidas. hes got a glass chin and ovverated, i said this from day 1 and people were like "oh u dont kno ****, hes amazing, check out the speed" speed aint everythin, all he has is outside game, he has no inside game which is really imprtant in the pros. he was a superb amateur but very poor pro...and now people are finally realzin wat i said ages ago
number6 09-23-2008, 01:14 PM Paul Ingle v Mbulelo Botile Watson v Eubank and McClellan V Benn must be high on the list due to the aftermath.
But on a lesser scale, just moments that were hard to watch things like:
Benn quiting against Collins after being such a warrior through his career
Bruno v Tyson 2
Eubanks brave effort against Thompson in their second fight, battling on in a fight out of his weight class even though he was shot at the time
Alexis Vastine 09-24-2008, 12:47 AM When Alan Minter got battered by Marvellous Marvin and the bitter beer bellied bums threw a hissy fit. That was a sad day for British society!
Alexis Vastine 09-24-2008, 12:51 AM anderson premiership and cl winner>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> el zahar nothing :lol1: uFail
Means nothing and proves how dumb you are. It is like saying Djibril Cisse i sbetter than Berbatov and torres because he is a CL winner!!!! Your logic is gay as it is a team sport.
Can't believe all these so called 'know it alls' didn't mention Minter getting battered. Maybe the digusting bitter loser hooligan behaviour makes them ashamed to be British?
black.ink 09-24-2008, 03:39 PM The main ones that come to mind are:
The Watson tragedy
The Prince getting wooped by MAB. Hamed was an awesome talent and great to watch, but stepping up to the best in the business and being schooled like that was hard-viewing.

What kind of a post is that, you come across as a prick.
Its one of the top ones on the list but to be fair many like me had forgot about it and im sure alot on here were too young to remember it.

i don't think the way he lost was as bad as the way he went into hiding at the age of 28. It was a waste of talent, as he would have had a better chance V morales, who was easier to hit and could not avoid getting into a war when he didn't need to. Also, I really think he would have beaten barrera if they fought 5 years earlier.
Flawless. 09-25-2008, 08:04 AM At least you had Lennox Lewis owning the heavyweight division, what more can you ask for?
Yeah Mikey not winning a world title was sad. I was at Chi 1 and 2 and the Harrison fight, gutted each time. Against Chi I thought he should have got the decision the first time, but what can you say. The second time I was really gutted for ages, it ruined the whole night lol. It said a while back in boxing news that he was coming back, anyone know anything about that?
i honestly cant see mikey having the heart for a comeback mate, although heart is the wrong word because he was full of it, i just reckon he was training in the gym as most old pro's do and the boxing press made up their own story.
mikey might even have been winding them up a bit about it but he's too rusty and long in the tooth for a legit comeback.
if he has any future in the game it will be on an advisory level i.e trainer promoter.
and i for one would love to see him back!
but truth be told i really doubt that we will ever see him again.
RiZo is Gay 09-30-2008, 06:36 PM THE SCHOOLING FLOYD GAVE RICKY!! LOL
I WAS JUST SO HAPPY TO SEE SO MANY DISAPPOINTED BRITISH FANS! I LIKE RICKY THO
