Pete Spratt will be returning to the UFC in early 2004, according to statements made by Spratt in MMAWeekly's Live Fighter Chat during Monday's MMAWeekly Radio Show. The news comes as a great relief to MMA fans, who were left to wonder for the past several months if Spratt was going to return to the UFC, or if contract hold-ups would prevent him from fighting in the UFC for the forseeable future.
Spratt will not be on November's UFC 45 card because he has already signed to fight George St. Pierre in the TKO promotion in late November. This fight was originally scheduled to take place in early September, but had to be delayed due to a knee injury suffered by St. Pierre. While he won't be fighting for the UFC in November, Spratt said in the Live Fighter Chat that he WILL be returning to the UFC in early 2004.
Spratt also commented that he knows what the UFC has in store for him with his next fight, and he's excited about it. It's not believed that Spratt was referring to a fight with Matt Hughes, if for no other reason because Hughes is defending his belt in November and would probably not be booked on back-to-back shows.
It's worth pointing out that Spratt expressed an interest over the summer in a UFC fight with Jeremy Jackson, although it's not known whether or not that has any link to Spratt's scheduled fight in early 2004. The only thing that can be said for sure is that Pete Spratt is a warrior who likes to take tough fights and likes to fight people who aren't afraid to stand up and bang with their opponents. So if Pete Spratt is excited about his scheduled opponent, it's safe to say that MMA fans should be excited as well
