View Full Version : Did the internet kill the rap game money????
Kobe Bryant 09-08-2008, 10:25 AM Seriously poeple talk about the quality of music. A while back everyone was still selling as long as you had a popular song out. The bootlegging **** is rediculous. I know if it weren't for piracy more artists would be going platinum. Instead you are lucky if you end up with 500k sold for however long your album is out.
Look at some of these rappers. I think they just do it for the love. Because many of them have other side deals and it seems that's where they are getting their dough from.
Do any of you buy CD's? Am I dumb for buying a couple of albums a year instead of just burning them?
Versastyle 09-08-2008, 10:49 AM I bought my first cd, not a mixtape in like 6 years a month or so ago. That was Lil Wayne's.
If some of these rappers are as good as some of their fans make them out to be they should be getting sales no matter the bootlegging.
Floyd Sinclair 09-08-2008, 01:23 PM ^^ it aint even like that...skills dont sell. Controversy, dissing legends, and doing songs with lil wayne is the onle way to sell records nowadays.
The internet has had a huge impact on the music industry. Its sad to see a rapper like ghostface not be able to sell any cds. He puts in alotta work on every cd and he goes through alot to get all them samples cleared. I dont think big doe rehab even sold 100,000, shake my ****in head...

I think selling is more of feeling the rapper then a fad and such. They must not be doing something right. If something doesn't work, try different. If you're serious.
Floyd Sinclair 09-08-2008, 01:35 PM skills used to sell...now you gotta sell out and go commercial. If you dont do that you aint sellin no records...i remember back when wu-tang, onyx, the lox, mobb deep had no problem sellin records.
I think if people got the extra money they should support the artists they like. Ghostface gets alotta love on the internet but his fans aint buyin his cd's. I bought 7 so far this year...

Rappers make WAY more money off touring than they do off albums anyway... a decent selling debut will help because it helps sell concert tickets, but let's not act like the artist is doing way worse when it comes to piracy, than say the CEO of the record company. It's always been that way. No one gets rich off album sales only. So whether you agree with piracy or not, it shouldn't have killed the rap game money, especially with rappers getting endorsement deals, doing movies, selling ringtones, etc.

But artists generally get the last of the money don't they? True on the point of touring though I forgot about that.

nah people or either cheap or only care about commercial rap that you can dance too. It was different in the 90's because hardcore rap was more liked by the fans but they get less exposure now. You dont see their videos on mtv anymore. BET sold out, **** all them music channels. And **** 106 and park
