View Full Version : Chris Byrd=Rodney Dangerfield of Boxing
INFAMOUZ 11-03-2004, 05:28 PM No respect! This guy's defensive style and lack of KO power make him a dull heavyweight, but damn think of his resume. He has been in the ring with- Tua,Ike,Holyfield, both Klitsckos, Golota and basically anybody who would jump in the ring with him. Roy Jones Jr and James Toney both are scared to get near him and Vitali doesn't really seam to be screaming for a rematch. I think this guy could have been a hall of famer had he progressed from Lightheavyweight, to Cruiser, to Heavyweight.
Champoreeno 11-03-2004, 05:56 PM You've got something here, but your missing a lot. For one thing, there's no way Toney or Jones see themselves losing to Byrd. Also, as far as I'm concerned, Byrd isn't doing himself any favors by steering all questions thrown his way to the fact that he (fortuatously) beat VK a while back, and given that that and his alphabet title makes him "the" Heavywieght champ. How can he honestly make this claim given the (far from dominant) fights he's had in the last couple of years: Holyfield, Oquendo, Galota, and now McCline. Gimmie a break...
GasPed 11-03-2004, 06:20 PM I like Byrd, cuz I like underdogs, but I have no illusions about his skills and deficiencies. He has a sparkling defense and fast hands. That's enough to beat a lot of guys. But someone big enough to walk through those fast hands and bully him will slap him around like a 20 dollar ho. I give him props for his skills and heart, but I can't give him too much respect as a champion...

Yet Jones fought Ruiz instead. Face it Jones was afraid of Byrd.
oldgringo 11-03-2004, 07:05 PM Did you really just say RJJ and Toney are afraid of Byrd? Yes Chris would just beat them up and end their careers with those blistering power shots...

I don't see a case that could be made for Toney, but a case could clearly be made for RJJ.

INFAMOUZ 11-03-2004, 07:37 PM Chris Byrd is one of the slikest guys in boxing. He has great reflexes, and hand speed. He just dosen't have any pop what so ever.

I've always thought his D was real good and he has fast hands for a heavy... but just like everyone else says, he seems to have no power.
He has fought some pretty damn good opposition, but when was the last time he looked good in a fight? Maybe "really" gotten beat by golota, vitali and Oquendo... lost to Wlad and Ike...?
He needs a good outing. I didn't see the Evander fight.. how did he look?
phallus 11-03-2004, 09:38 PM Toney dominated Evander way more than Byrd did
i don't see how Toney is afraid of Byrd, he'll beat Byrd unless Don King can stop it from happenning.
there's no question the Byrd is talented, i think in terms of talent / skill alone he belongs at the top of today's heavyweights. Byrd is beautiful to watch the way he slips away from punches and counters the big guys shots, even though he's a FEATHERFISTED CUTIE and has to win his fights on points or bad judging in the case of his LOSS to FRes Oquendo ( CITA, i like Byrd, he's a master technician, but he lost that fight ) . Byrd never beat Oquendo, the judges beat Oquendo.

I agree he lost the fight to Oquendo, but he did beat Golota.
jack_the_rippuh 11-03-2004, 11:15 PM Do you hate Roy Jones Jr. because he has accomplished more than both Klitschko's?

So I guess that means that you think that Ruiz was the best heavyweight champion at the time. Shame on you.
