View Full Version : lost my first fight... the comback trail
punchDrUnK MONK 09-04-2008, 11:06 AM ok.. so i lost my first fight in august.. i fight in the 19 and older age range... im 21... 140 pound fighter... i got stopped in the first round in my debut, the reasons for the loss are kinda long, if anyone wants ot know em jus ask, but ill skip that for now...
but ya, i feel experienced from it, and now that im over the loss i feel now ready more then ever to get a win in this sport... i think as weird as it may sound, the loss prepared me for the win better then any of my training..
so for my comeback fight i plan to train in a whole new way since i know what im doing now... first i am taking 3 weeks off EVERYTHING, no trainin at all.. due to a few injurys... after those 3 weeks im gunna do some weight lifting for 2-3 weeks to start off my comeback.. im gunna do 5 days a week , one hour weight training.. so itll do me good after 3 weeks....
so thats 6 weeks total with no boxing... then after that im gunna go back to the gym... work hard on cardio for 2 weeks.. then get into the gritty **** after that n do tons of bag work n sparring. and hopefully fight in november again..
i just wanted feedback on what everything thinks of my little plan for this comeback. i think if i train following this plan ill be in great shape for my next fight, and should be prepared to get the win
peewee1460 09-04-2008, 12:26 PM I'd recomend getting back in the gym as soon as you feel your body is ready and getting back into your training.
sweet*science 09-04-2008, 01:04 PM I agree with peewee. I dont think you should take 3 weeks off. Too much time I think can hurt you more than help you. But Id say look into it before making a decision. Just a though. Either way good luck.
sukhenkoy 09-04-2008, 01:14 PM Yeah like peewee said, get back as soon as you can. I learned this the hard way.
Giving your body time to rest is essential, but I personally think 3 weeks is a bit too much. Maybe 1 week if you really need it. I think anything beyond 3 weeks will just make it much harder for you to train once you get back into it. You'll be thinking "well I just had three weeks, why not another day, then another" because you'll find your training to be much harder than usual after getting back into it because your body isn't used to the stress.
Good luck though man.
Your comeback plan shows little improvement towards your next fight.
Less planning, more boxing.
punchDrUnK MONK 09-04-2008, 01:46 PM i totally agree with all of you... specially with the fight being a loss, made me wanna go back right away, and it woulda been great for me... but i have severeal injurys that need time to heal.. a- bruised ribs, not as bad as my last case of bruised ribs.. but still after 1.5 weeks its not healed.. so i cant spar or even throw a punch too well right now... also wrist and hand problems got me taking time off bag work... so bag work and sparring gotta be cut for at least 6 weeks... thats why i planned it that way.. i totally wanna go back sooner.. but its about my body lasting and not gettin all ****ed up for the future... or hurt when i go back...

You don't sound like you are the kinda guy to normally make excuses or slack off, but you are sounding like you've learned some lessons and your new training program is a result of that. You've convinced me you know what you're talking about and that you should follow your gut instincts, even if you don't like them.
DA1CATAS 09-04-2008, 03:36 PM ok.. how about working on conditioning non-stop until then.
The body is smart behyond what humans know.. It can heal itself if it feels its under normal conditions.
You think construction workers take days off because they are sore or because its hot... wonder why the old guys in construction can work so long and do so much but be so old... because they have become conditioned to doing so.
Condition your body a level beyond what people say is normal. and then push that to something beyond what you think is impossible.
Just a thought...
I can't wait tio surprise you guys.
anyway JUST try to stay conditioned.. like lots of running and throwing punches atleast.
punchDrUnK MONK 09-04-2008, 11:14 PM thanks a lot markeeta for the good words. and da1 ill consider ur advice for the future
Salty 09-05-2008, 12:08 AM Listen to Cat, I had 6 weeks off due to a torn hamstring, took me a month to back my fitness, so basically 10 weeks wasted. Don't lose your conditioning or you will regret it :)
KostyaTszyu44 09-05-2008, 02:38 AM hey man just some advice
1.dont stop training, just do light stuff in the gym if your injured, but dont stop completely
2. work on stamina, as im guessing you probably gassed out real quick in your fight and got overwhelmed
also, how did the stoppage go? like did you get dropped and banged up, or did you get gassed and overwhelmed like i suggested? if u dont wanna talk about it, dont worry ill understand

the stoppage wasnt as bad as it could be... first round... he came right for me... i was being wayyy tooo defensive... i covered up to avoud clean shots but barely got any of my shots off.. at first we were just trading... n i was on the ropes most the time, i moved out a few times then totally stopped thinking and didnt move or do anything just tried to knock him out with hard shots... he ended up overwhelming me like u said and my mind thought at that time it was a good idea to take a knee to get a breather.... i regret it now but i took the knee... then got up instantly not hurt.. and he jumped back on me and actually hurt me here with a body shot which led to the bruised ribs...
then after the knee i wasnt throwing as much as i was before.. so it led to a standing 8 about 30 seconds after that.... i wasnt moving anymore and was on the rops for the rest of the fight... after my standing 8 he jumped one me again landed a few nice ones and the ref stopped it..
with 2 seconds left!
eman-resu 09-05-2008, 10:58 AM sounds like a normal first fight, I wouldn't feel bad about it at all, get in more serious spars so you're ready next time
