On the subject of Winky Wright, I wrote in the last thread that he's got a lot of great options at 154 if he can put Mosley into retirement. That's true, but thinking about, I think Winky may have been in better shape if he fought his mandatories. I've been praising Tarver for giving his belt up to make the biggest fight, but for Winky it seems kind of stupid. Wright is not quite as old as Tarver, and there's more action at 154 than 175. If he wanted to be a hard-a*s, Wright could have welched on the rematch clause like Hopkins did with Trinidad, and fought Kassim Ouma to hang on to his belts. I think Wright beats Ouma, and Mosley would still need redemption. If Wright gets a Trinidad fight, good for him, because that's about as big as it gets. However, if that falls through, you'd have to say he would have more leverage if he had all his belts.

I didnt know about Hoipkins welching on the Trinidad rematch. Did Tito even want a rematch? I didnt think he did.
As for Winky welching on Mosley, I dont know what the financial ramifications would be for doing something like that. It seems like he would owe Shane some money or something.

Tito did ask for a rematch after the Cheriffi fight but Hopkins said that Tito would have to wait until he felt like giving Tito rematch. This was after Hopkins had told Tito after the first fight that he would grant him a rematch anytime anyplace.

Yeah, right - 'cause we all know that Winky Wright vs. Verno Phillips would have been huge!
