BOXER PRICE RECEIVES CARRA BACKING
Paul Eaton 21 August 2008
Merseyside boxer David Price will go for Olympic gold in Beijing over the weekend buoyed by words of encouragement from Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Price - a boyhood Liverpool fan - is guaranteed at least a bronze medal following his last eight victory over Lithuanian Jaroslav Jatsko and is now preparing for his semi-final bout against reigning world champion Roberto Cammarelle on Friday.

"David has done a fantastic job so far and I'm sure that will continue," said Carragher.

"The whole of Liverpool are proud to have such a quality ambassador and boxer representing the country.

"I know all of the lads here wish him all the best and we hope to see him soon with an Olympic gold medal. Good luck."

Price's bout with Cammarelle will be a re-match of their fight four years ago when the Italian came out on top in the European Championships and prevented the then 21-year old from representing his country at the Athens Olympics.

"I can definitely beat him," said Price. "I'm a completely different fighter to what I was four years ago. I know I've got the tools to beat him and I've got everything to gain."

The Super-Heavyweight bout is scheduled to start at 2.46pm (UK time) on Friday afternoon.

YNWA Pricey. Not his fault he got sparked out. MAybe Carra overmotivated him? Then he realised he was not wearing 23 and not in Istanbul.
