i am a product of just before mid eighties, and i had older sister so i had early exposure to music. and, of course cable when mtv jams was one.
i remember cassettes i bought back in maybe 1990 or 1991, and i still lsten to most older school hip hop - so i have seen it and heard it change a million times.

1997....I've been a student of rap for 11 years now, over half my life. The first cd's i owned were Wu-tang forever, puff daddy - no way out, Biggie - Life after death, and Mase - Harlem world. I remember seeing the video for mo money mo problems when they first played it and from that point on the rest is history.

First rap album I bought was P.Diddy and The Family- No Way Out, then I went on to grab all the Jay albums from the shelves. I had an older brother who bumped those records so I had a bunch when I was real young.

Whenever DMX came out with Where My Dog's At?
Then again my earliest encounters with hip hop were Bone Thugs, Coolio and Naughty By Nature.

1989 - I'd heard a handful of rap singles on pop radio in the meantime or briefly on MTV, but it was about 6th grade that I bought Young MC's debut and some Hammer and Fresh Prince tapes, and a buddy of mine got his dad to buy him Life Is...Too Short and we would listen to it at school - dirty side when the teachers weren't around, clean side when they would pass...
