Trrmo 08-18-2008, 09:27 PM Not bad for a beginner, people are gonna tell you not to hold your right so low, but its okay IF you can make that style work for you, and defend effectively. Do lots of sparring and get down to the gym ASAP.
Main obvious thing to me is you are not using your right at full distance you need to snap it out at full extension to keep your opponent out of striking range.
Work alot more on using it ie doubles and triple jabs to set up for combinations.Jab and move.
sukhenkoy 08-18-2008, 09:29 PM Not too bad man. I've seen much worse on boxingscene.
Just get to the gym as soon as you can to not develop any bad habits.
Joan_Guzman 08-18-2008, 09:32 PM I have seen worse beginners. But, you need to straighten out your punches more and out more of a snap into them. That way the bag won't move half as much. Try to keep ya right hand up too. And maybe more head movement and faster hands. Pretty good though for someone who has never been to a gym.
SOY-COMO-SOY 08-18-2008, 09:34 PM keep ur right hand up. if not u will get ****ed up quick. After u throw a punch put that hand back in front of ur face. Get down to a gym so u dont pick up any bad habbits
drew_kousk 08-19-2008, 01:47 AM ok thanks!
and i had it low because i had already done the rest of my training...
i was already tired the speed bag got my shoulder a little sore..
also they're 16oz gloves so my hand speed will be a lil faster with the 12s.
ill work at it and post another vid next time for a "check up" lol
about going to the gym, i will real soon just wanna be in shape so it wont be so hard!
Tyson123 08-19-2008, 01:57 AM Its alright, whats you'r weight?
drew_kousk 08-19-2008, 02:26 AM man... lol
right now im at 164
im like 5'7 or 5'8
how much should i be down to?
PunchDrunk 08-19-2008, 02:32 AM You look like you should be at 141 with that height. You look pretty good if you've never been to a gym before. No reason to wait, get to a gym, instead of picking up a lot of bad habits on your own.
drew_kousk 08-19-2008, 03:01 AM well what would be the best routine 2 go about losing all of this excess weight?
Griff 314 08-19-2008, 07:00 AM why cant i see any of the videos?
markeeta 08-19-2008, 07:30 AM Your punches are just coming from your arms and you need to be using your whole body for every single movement. Your feet are flat and because of this you are reaching out to score the punch and are either getting off balance or you lack the power you could have. It also leaves you open for a counter attack because you are swinging your arms too much.
Some of your combinations seemed a bit odd, because I couldn't imagine when you'd use them in the way you did, but the main problem is the shifting of your body weight between punches. If you learn a combination learn the foot movements and they way you shift your weight on your legs also.
I'd get to a gym now. Make sure they teach you proper technique, cause that's what you're paying them for. Forget about getting fit first. The more you box the fitter you'll be.

James78 08-19-2008, 01:38 PM not bad bro, need a bit more head movement and balance and foot position but yeah dude get your ass in the gym and work like a bastard!
mkm88414 08-19-2008, 02:30 PM But, you need to straighten out your punches more and out more of a snap into them. That way the bag won't move half as much.
Im kinda curious about this. ive only been boxin about 3 months and after reading stuff on this forum i asked my coach why its better for the bag to barely move when you hit it.
he answered the question with sound effects and it was kinda hard to understand haha.
he then said everybodys from a different gym so they all got their own ways of training. he told me since i want to go for 4 rounds of power the bag SHOULD be movin when i hit it.
im obviously gonna listen to my coach but i would still like to hear thoughts on it?
MikeBrew328 08-19-2008, 03:13 PM Don't worry about weight just yet. Just get into a gym and start training. Your weight will follow naturally. You've got about 6 months of dedicated training before that. If you stick with it, you'll have a lifetime of worrying about weight so enjoy yourself now. All I can say is, find a good trainer and realize that he knows a lot more than you do, so soak up all the info you can. Feel uncomfortable in the new stance he shows you, don't second guess when he tells you to make that pivot in your left foot, etc. That's how you learn the game.
Stormin' Norman 08-19-2008, 03:29 PM I like your right to the body and right hook in general and you keep your right hand up when you throw it, good stuff. You rotate into it well, you seem athletic, like youre young and haven't smoked too much ganja yet
Cons: You need to keep that right hand up...dont leave it so low unless you got your shoulder over your chin, you're wide open and if you do that shoulder **** as a new guy they'll just tell you to keep your hand up like I'm gonna advise you to ....Keep both hands up....return punch to guard position up top, not low... (jab specially) and when you throw that left cross, put a cigarette out with your left foot more, you arent turning your heel with it and turn your left fist clockwise more, you're throwing your best shot and not taking advantage of these 2 aspects which would add 50-100% to the power of the punch, no****.
drew_kousk 08-19-2008, 05:01 PM Ok Cool!! Thanks Guys!!
U Really Being A Big Help!!
JayCoe 08-19-2008, 07:27 PM Join a gym now, don't waste your time. This has nothing to do with you not thinking you're fit enough, you're intimidated to walk into a boxing gym and you're using your fitness as a cover. How do I know? Because i've been there, said that and tried that one. Just join. I've had a few weeks off, got back into training and i'm at a very serious gym at the moment which do massive runs and alot of exercise. I admit now I am not fit enough at the moment for these massive runs and then go back and carry on training, I drag my ass through it but I do it. Hell, i've seen fat guys do it, ok, they come last, ok it's pretty obvious to me that instead of completing the circuit they stopped and turned around and went back because they were so far behind us, but managed to finish about 5 mins after. But he does it. You don't have to be fit to go to a boxing gym, you have to be fit to be a boxer. Going to the gym will get you fit enough. Trust me.
As for the video, it's pretty good for someone who hasn't been trained, so be proud. It does need transforming into 'boxing' though, as in it's there, but it's raw. It needs processing. It's things like your punches are coming from your arms, not your body. Your stance is wrong and so on. We can tell you what to do but it's alot harder than many think to actually do. At the boxing gym they'll teach you it all and you'll work your fitness up. Trust me, join, and in a months time you'll sit back and think "thank god I joined, I could have ended up working on that bag for ages and never feeling fit enough." Good luck bud.
Tip: #1 You've clearly spent alot on that Everlast complete set, it wont be useless once you get the gym, don't worry, you'll still use your bag to practice what you're being taught and doing some rounds when you have your "days off", even if its only 5.
#2 Don't waste your time with Everlast. Your stand, bag and speedball are all probably fine, but i'm pretty sure you're wearing hook and loop Everlasting Boxing gloves which are about £30 here, so probably about $30-40. Everlast are only good if you're spending in the top half of $100, look for other makes and for the same price you can get much better gloves. Just some advice that I learnt the 'expensive' way', so handwraps were only £5, the gloves were only £30 and the mitts were only £16, but it all adds up, that's £51 that I spent that I didn't have to because I barely use the stuff now because it's crap.
drew_kousk 08-19-2008, 09:23 PM SILENCED... lol
ok thanks well im going up to the gym first thing in the morning to get set up.. i appreciate the feedback guys!
really..
much luck to all you guys!!
Napalm Death 08-20-2008, 06:24 AM btw always keep your back foot at a 45 degree angle. when sparring and someone lunges at you you can just put your back foot down and then duck and roll.
what the hell, since everyone else chimed in, i will throw a few observations.
one - in shadowboxing vid, i only watched first 35 seconds. your upper body didn't work with your lower body.
two - on heavybag - your feet shifted a lot on impact.
btw, that heavybag, are u sure it's heavybag? looked lke an 85 lber my friend has. those are very light.
anyways, how do u use the speed bag like that?
drew_kousk 08-21-2008, 03:10 AM Well I Already Signed Up At The Gym.. Man After They Showed Me How To Pivot And Everything Its So Much Better And Comfortable!!
