probably Corrales, he beat 2 top tier fighters. I hope he gets it, because he isnt likely to be in this situation again. Dont get me wrong, I like Chico, but I dont think he is as great as everyone is now saying he is, if Freitas didnt get tired, he would have basically shut out Chico. I hope he gets Fighter Of The Year though.

It's been Corrales.

Danny Williams becomes a darkhorse if he KOs Vit. If Morales is real impressive against Barrera (blowout) then maybe he gets a few votes, but it's gotta be Corrales.

I think that was the consensus on the other threads too

Corrales has a good chance of taking this award, but my vote goes for Hopkins and i wish it does, outboxed Allen beatiful and was the first to KO the golden boy and de la hoya was having one of the best performances of his life, but Hopkins was to big for him

I would say Morales if he beats Barrera. He beat Chavez and Hernandez with some trouble but there was no doubt that he beat them. I thought Corrales lost to Casamayor in the rematch and he struggled a bit with Frietas until he got tired.

I wouldn't say Delahoya was having the best performance of his life. Delahoya last great performance was against Vargas.

I would say Diego Corrales but on this for one reason and only one reason I will say Hopkins, for being the 1st man ever to ko DLH

Corrales or Morales

Corrales. He came back and got his revenge vs. Casa, even more deadlier this time with his jab. Made Freitas quit.

Morales. He formalized his entry in the SFW ranks winning the WBC belt from Chavez then the IBF belt of Hernandez and should he beat Barrera impressively. He's fighter of the year.

If Oscar's second fight with Mosley was one of his great nights.....that's pathetic.

Oscar won the early rounds with movement & love taps against a tentative Mosley.
He then, as usual, got exhausted from his brand of wimpy boxing.....& faded terribly.
He was swept in the last four rounds......was getting walked down by a guy who Winky Wright walked THROUGH.....& was doubled over by body shots.
A lousy performance by Oscar.

Not a lock....but a helluva strong candidate.
I think what will hurt him, even if he pulls off a Klit victory, will be that most people will point to the WEAKNESSES of Klit & Tyson before they will Williams' abilities.

I think The Ring will go with Hopkins no matter what happens with Tarver-Johnson or Williams-Klitchko. Have you seen their latest issue? They practically annoint him King of All Boxing. Not that I don't agree with them...

Has anyone mentioned Winky Wright yet? He's a candidate as well if he beats up on Mosley again. I know Mosley isn't the best competition but beating DLH twice counts for something, even if the second decision was rather controversial.

I love Bernard Hopkins.....but his victory over Oscar was a FORMALITY.

Oscar was no threat whatsoever to the middleweight champ.
Oscar had ONE fight at middleweight....& won a bogus decision.

I agree, but sometimes fights that are mere formalities are the most important. Did people really think that Ali had a chance against Larry Holmes? Well, okay, some people did, but that was only because Ali has surprised everyone so many times before. Realistically, he didn't have a chance. Holmes beat all kinds of great fighters but it wasn't until the Ali fight that he gained true recognition as the champ.

This situation is somewhat different, of course, but I believe the same rules still apply. DLH had no chance, really, but he was the superstar no matter how you slice it. Beating him cemented Hopkins legacy.

corrales for now, but tarver if he were to win a fight against johnson, but that probably won't happen this year

To many to list.

DLH-For his effort
Bernard-for his skills
Cory Spinks-Come on now he accomplished a lot.
Corrales-No mas, No more
Tarver/Johnson

Their are more to many to list....

I still think the most impressive was Diego Corrales dismantling of Freitas and making him quit.

Spinks....

Please....get Oscar off of there.
He basically lost his only two fights he had this year.

& EFFORT ?
The man went down on purpose against Hopkins.

He is a QUITTER !

Point taken, I forgot about the sturm debacle...I thought Oscar for a good 8 rounds w/ Bernard before folding under pressure though......

Spinksjinx, I wouldn't say Corrales dismantled Freitas. He made him quit but Corrales didn't really get to him until Freitas got tired and that is not a dismantling. I also don't agree with Delahoya for his effort. Alot of boxers fight opponents that they know they will lose to but still make the effort but that doesn't give them a shot at fighter of the year. Hopkins is probably going to win but I still say Morales if he beats Barrera.

I think you're underestimating Corrales' performance against Freitas.
Freitas was fighting in a way that's tough to deal with. He was moving excessively, yet still throwing effective shots.
Credit to Corrales for not getting frustrated, & for also handling the big rights that Freitas was whipping into his jaw.

It was only natural that Freitas would tire, using that approach. Corrales was right there, with the power, once Freitas slowed down.
It was a terrific performance by Diego, IMO.

Corrales didn't do anything in that fight outside of the knockdowns that would make me call that a terrific performance. Corrales looked a bit frustrated at times and I do give him credit for staying in there and making Freitas quit but he still looked like the same Corrales that we saw before the Casamayor rematch. Speaking of the Casamayor rematch I thought Corrales lost that fight even though he improved alot and I didn't think he dominated the first 7 or 8 rounds like Al Bernstein said he did.

Will you acknowledge that the way Freitas was fighting would be tough for ANYONE to handle ?

Here's the thing....a guy like Floyd Mayweather never has to worry about someone like Freitas, or even a Junior Witter, running all over the place. Nobody fears Floyd, so they'll always come to him...always play into his hands.
I guarantee soemeone wises up & runs from Floyd, you'll see Floyd looking kinda ****ty for a while.
NOBODY looks good aginst a runner.
Corrales wasn't looking good, but he did the right thing & came up big in the end.

i think you gotta give it to tarver for the totally unpredictable, early, one punch KO of jones...

mic573

The way Freitas fought shouldn't be a big problem as it was if Corrales knew how to cut the ring off. Corrales showed a good jab against Casamayor but the jab wasn't used against Freitas. The jab would of been his best weapon if he had used it whenever Freitas tried to come in and throw his punches. Yes Freitas moved alot but Corrales didn't even attempt to cut the ring off he just stood there and allowed Freitas to hit him at will.

Depending on what happens in December...
the most deserving if they won would be

1. Danny Williams
2.Glen Johnson
3.Antonio Tarver

A good case
1.Chico Corrales
2. Erik Morales -if he beats Barrera

A lame case which is highly possible if no one else arises
1.Bernard Hopkins-- Sure his defences are legendary but his fights this year have been highly overrated.

You got me wrong! I didnīt mean that it was a great performance by Oscar, but it was a good one. He lost the first fight against Mosley, but I still think he should have given the decision in the second.

Bump, bump :)

If Erik Morales would've just won over Barrera, he definitely would've been 2004's fighter of the year. After getting himself the WBC and IBF superfeatherweight belts, Barrera would've been the icing of the cake.

So finally, who deserves to be called 2004's Fighter of the Year?

IMO it's got to be Glen Johnson. He's got a magnificent run this year. Getting the IBF strap with a rematch win over Clinton Woods, destruction of Roy Jones Jr. and winning over another RJJ tormentor Antonio Tarver.
