View Full Version : Emanuel Steward picks McCline to win!
ChrististheAnswer 11-02-2004, 05:27 PM I heard this on the ringtalk radio show when they did an interview with him. I really respect Steward and he's one of the best trainers ever but I must say I'm really surprised by this.
Byrd will win, mark my words!

I think Byrd will win, unless he stands in front of McCline and trades with him the way he did with Golota.
bigtex 11-02-2004, 05:41 PM no doubt bryd wins
GxBrak 11-02-2004, 06:04 PM i think he probably will as well, but byrd nearly lost to golota and oquendo so maybe its not that crazy
phallus 11-02-2004, 08:30 PM Byrd will win, McCline has confidence issues, when he's mentally focused McCline is a tough competitor and big puncher, but lately everytime i've seen him fight he's timid, afraid to risk getting KO'd. If Byrd frustrates him, which his tight defense will, McCline will lose his confidence and let Byrd outpoint him, even though Byrd lost to a B level hw named Fres Oquendo
realheavyhands 11-02-2004, 09:18 PM mccline and like the klitchkos he can move real well .. so he will get to bryd
marvdave 11-02-2004, 09:40 PM Stewart is a great trainer and all, but he mustsome alterier(spelling?) motive. I see no way way McCline can win, aside from the usual "punchers" chance. Byrd will box circles around him and as I've said before, McCline is extremely overrated.

Totally agree.
phallus 11-02-2004, 10:24 PM The only way McCline can win is if he gets possessed by Ike Ibeabuchi for the duration of the fight
The Fix 11-02-2004, 11:00 PM mccline by KO. he has nothing to be scared of in this match chris byrds feather fists pose no threat to big times chin. i cant see mccline advancing himself after this fight he has confidence problems with guys with power. for example he seemed downright shook when he fought wlad.
hollister 11-02-2004, 11:32 PM This ain't gonna be no "gimme" for Byrd, if he wins, he's gonna have to WIN it. I think with Byrd being so much smaller, McCline will bring his 'A' game, it's gonna be a fight.

I'm starting to think more that way, I didn't feel that way before but now I think its gonna be a lot tougher fight for Byrd.
McCline should easily knock Byrd into the cruiserweight division.
Kimmy 11-03-2004, 02:30 AM Byrd will on points but i do believe it could be tough. McCline hasn`t beaten a real decent fighter before and i see nothing to suggest he can beat byrd other than he is quite big!
Great 11-03-2004, 05:49 AM Why not?
McCline is cowardly only when meets against powerful fughter. If he not afraid of the opponent, can box very well. Also he has strong punches and very good speed. Jamil can win.
markosg19 11-03-2004, 07:45 AM Byrd is so overrated! he has never done well against someone way taller than him. All Mcline needs to to is jab his ass off all night. an average big big man is better than an everge little man. Mcline on pts
Manny also said that LL would whop Vit so.....
Anyway Byrd by points his so much more skilled than Mcline.
i cant see mcquire winning in any fashion... and i dont even like byrd.... i do think he can be competitve early on, before he tires...
bandito 11-03-2004, 10:25 AM mccline is a slow dopey fighter!! he will not win. he sucks!! if he wins, then byrd sucks. byrd will outbox the shoes off of mccline!
Mrpresident 11-03-2004, 10:26 AM There are several factors to keep in mind here.
1. Byrd hasnt looked that great latley, esspecially in terms of elusivness and high volume, fast combination punching.
2. Byrd has struggled with large men that can throw a decent strait shot.
3. McCline has no reason to be afraid of Byrd's power, only his elusivness, which seems to be declining.
4. McCline's confidence seems to be improving.
5. McCline is making very little money for this fight, he may be esspecially hungry for this fight.
These reasons alone give Big Time a chance of winning. I hope he does, I will rooting for him! ;)
some other things to consider:
- mccline has horrible stamina, byrd does not
- byrd has a good chin
- mccline doesnt have a tenth of byrd's skill
- byrd has much more experience, in both the pro's and amatuers and in big fights
dansweeney 11-03-2004, 12:33 PM byrd is not in his prime anymore, golota showed that, he is easier to hit, and mccline is still learning, i think he is ready for this fight, MCcline by tko in the 10th round, you heard it here first
Great 11-03-2004, 12:44 PM some other things to consider:

You think so? Jamil has at least good physical conditions.
McClain 7 times passed a distance in 10 and more rounds and in all these fights gained victories.
- mccline doesnt have a tenth of byrd's skill
Then Byrd - the second SRR.:)
jabsRstiff 11-03-2004, 12:46 PM Close this thread.
This is a fight not worth discussing.
Great 11-03-2004, 01:04 PM But what to do, if we have such Heavyweights?:)
Eventually heavyweight the most popular.
PRboxingfan 11-03-2004, 02:03 PM Remember that Emmanuel picked Mayorga to beat Tito.
TheFairPole 11-03-2004, 02:14 PM I think McCline can win if he puts pressure on Byrd or just sits back and waits for the exchanges like Oquendo did!!! Point being that McCline is too big for Byrd!!! The only way Byrd can win is if McCline fights like a *****... And that could easily happen!!! I say McCline by decision!!! ;)

against nobody.... his stamina issue, has been noted especially against wlad... i think he even sleeps in a oxygen tank or something to help his breathing
no, mccline just has the skills of an amatuer......

Completely agree, McCline will have nothing to be scared of, I do think it will go the distance however. There are far too many people on this thread that act like Chris Byrd is this amazing heavyweight. Sorry he's not! Plain and simple, Byrd is 0-2 in his last two fights and you can make the case that McCline is better than either Golota or Oquendo. Byrd may eek this one out fellas but quit acting like McCline is outclassed in this one, it's a u pickem fight.
i dont like byrd, but i think mccline sucks... skills wise, fres and golota are better than mccline... mccline is just a huge, strong guy... byrd should look better agianst mcline than he did in his last two fights, because of the big disparity in skills.... i'll even be rooting for mccline, but i dont expect him to win....
Nodogoshi 11-03-2004, 05:28 PM I think the Boswell fight changed McCline. He really did fight scared in that fight and nearly lost it, but in the 10th round he let his hands go and stopped Bos in a way that he probably could have done at any point in the fight. In his next fight out, he jumped all over Wayne Llewelyn and stopped him in the 1st round. I think McCline will start this fight slow and Byrd will probably win the early rounds. But when McCline sees that Byrd cant hurt him he will let his hands go and will kayo Byrd in the 7th round.

Against nobody or anybody is other question and certainly important. But you wrote
McClain has horrible stamina.
I to you have resulted as an example 7 fights in which Jamil has passed a distance in 10 and more rounds.
In fight with Feilds rate was not lower than average, with Whitaker too, as well as with Boswell. In a result we have 7 long fights (10 rounds and more) in which half rate was not lower than average, and has victories in all given meetings.
Therefore we certainly can not declare on 100 % presence at Jamil magnificent stamina (as these fights were really not against the strongest opponents), but we do not have any reasons to speak about his stamina - "horrible".
