View Full Version : 2008- A Great Year For Hip Hop...
sisforshaq 08-09-2008, 12:21 AM I know the year isn't even done yet but right now August 9th, 2008. I have to say we have had a dope year for hip hop so far. I mean look at the albums we got so far. A dope ****ing Nas album. The crossover hit record from Lil Wayne which broke the barrier and sold over a million in its first week ( first album in music since 2005). A solid 2nd solo LP from Bun B. The Roots came and dropped another good piece of work. Even a Koch Record release of Clipse and the Re Up Gang turned out to be a dope suprise. Those are just a few of the nice records that have dropped so far this year....
Mixtape wise, we got a stunning effort from DC mc Wale.. (The Mixtape About Nothing) which was ridiclously hot. Add that to Asher Roth's Greenhouse Effect which brought a new talented white mc to our attention. Jaybee "Blood Is The New Black", Izza Kizza ( new Timbaland signed MC) dropped a creative crazy sounding tape, and top those all off with a DJ Drama and Ludacris piece.. it equals a crazy year so far for solid mixtape music.
The best part is this year is far from done.. on schedule to drop before 2009 are...
The Game- LAX
Murs and 9th Wonder- Murs For President
T.I.- Paper Trail
Dr. Dre- Detox (we'll see)
Jay-Z- The Blueprint III
Eminem- ?
i don't think any of the upcoming releases will knock Untitled from it's spot as best hip-hop release of '08
th4l3pr3ch4un 08-09-2008, 02:07 PM jadakiss -kiss my ass late 2008
and you forgot the carter 3, which sold over a million records... now i get a little tired of weezy too sometimes... but hip hop is still alive.
the period where Tha Carter III and Untitled were released was '08's peak
Kobe Bryant 08-09-2008, 03:52 PM Don't forget Ice Cube Raw Footage comes out August 19th.
But still this year is okay not really great. I thought 2006 was a dope year.
You had Hip Hop is Dead, Doctor's Advocate, Food and Liquor, Kingdom Come, Blue Carpet Treatment, Hell Hath No Fury, and a few other dope albums too.

07-big doe rehab, american gangster, return of the mac, Style P super gangster, hell rell for the hell of it, Common - Finding forever
08-HNIC2, untitled, TOS, Carter 3, Blueprint 3, Detox?
2006>>>
Fishscale, hip hop is dead, killa season, blood money, busta rhymes-the big bang (slept on), food and liquor, doctors advocate
Maybe if raekwon and rakim decide to drop albums by the end of the year, ill agree that it could potentially be a great year for hip hop
Killa Cam 08-10-2008, 11:30 PM i don't think any of the upcoming releases will knock Untitled from it's spot as best hip-hop release of '08
word, cuz a album already has, but it aint a upcomin release, it already came out (Grey Hairs).
To the OP, Murs For President is not a Murs & 9th collab album, he'll probly throw Murs a few beats for it, but it's not going to be like 3:16, Murray's Revenge, etc. It's his (Murs') major label debut.
IMO, Street Hop will be the best release this year. Royce Da 5'9" executive produced by DJ Premier? They can't lose...
pbftxrs316 08-11-2008, 08:57 AM you're right, the best of the best will return in 08, eminem. his album is going to **** out the competition, trust me, just wait, shady is coming soon.

Without MTV on his tip, like they will be, it would a major flop (compared to his past records).

I wasn't feeling Hip Hop is Dead that much, I thought Food and Liqour wasn't fantastic (unlike The Cool which was superb.) Blue Carpet wasn't great.. really no full length Snoop album in a long time has been solid. Hell Hath and Kingdom Come were both excellent but I think 2008 is shaping up to top 2006.
