View Full Version : F*ck Carl's Jnr
The Jake 09-07-2003, 01:25 AM Thought I'd treat myself to Carl's Jnr for the first time tonight. What a jib!
1) The six dollar burger really costs $4 something. Which begs the question WHY CALL IT A SIX DOLLAR BURGER?
2) There was not enough sauce on the burger - dry as all ****. Thankfully I had sense enough to bring ketchup satchets (I say ketchup coz non of the American posters will know what I'm on about if I say tomato sauce).
3) The crappy ass fork they gave me BROKE on the 2min drive back to work. This was an easy trip and the bag didn't jostle around a lot or nothing.
4) My milkshake was not even frozen. It was like sipping cold, pulpy orange juice.
5) Speaking of milkshakes, they had two sizes - small & med. small was like $1.99. Medium $2.09. WTF? Why buy a small when for ten cents more I can get the medium. Furthermore, where the **** is a large? That's 70% of McDonald's market right there - people who upsize their meals.
My only consolation was my chilli fries, although eating it with a busted fork was an exercise that I could have done without.
I know it's only takeout and I know it's only $8 total, but I really feel I was cheated on my takeaway experience here.
**** Carl's Jnr, I'm sticking to Jack In The Box or Wendy's (never had Wendy's but I hear nothing but good things about it).

New dome offers golfers solace in wintertime
by Steve MacDonald
Aug. 25 - There's a new addition to the South Anchorage skyline. Avid golfers now have a new place to keep their golf skills honed over the long winter. It's a place where workers raised the roof and the walls Monday afternoon.
It's the challenge every Alaskan golfer faces: cramming as much golf as possible into a few precious months of summer. But as another winter approaches there's a new option for getting that golf fix.
"It offers them the ability to practice their drives out to 100 yards -- the length of the dome," said Jim Fero of Tanglewood Lakes Golf Club.
When it's finished the dome will house an indoor driving range. The dome has been in the planning stages for the past five years. Its owners hope to take advantage of Anchorage's avid golf population.
"Alaska has the highest percentage of golfers of any major city in the United States," Fero said.
The dome was designed by the Minnesota-based company Yeadon Fabric Structures, which has built hundreds of domes around the world.
"Anywhere that can use an indoor facility, either for recreational, construction, mining, just about anything that can be covered either permanent, temporarily or seasonal," said Bob Jessome of Yeadon Fabric Structures.
The dome is 190-feet long. When it's inflated by two powerful fans, it'll stand 70 feet tall. Thick steel cables will keep it in place. Its designers say it can handle high winds and heavy snow.
"The dome, basically, its normal operating pressure, its normal operating pressure, can be doubled during extreme conditions, so the dome is firmer to combat wind and heavy snow loading," Jessome said. "The dome is designed to shed snow."
While the weather is no concern, the owners of the dome say aesthetics are.
"We had feedback from the public, the planning department, the city, and they wanted to make this as inconspicuous as possible," Fero said.
To solve concerns, the owners painted the dome so it blends in with the surrounding trees.
"There's a ridgeline pattern, two-toned charcoal and dawn gray, and we're hoping that that really cuts down on the noticability of the structure." Jessome said.
When it's finished the dome will offer two levels of tee boxes, and it'll also have a club house.
"They'll be able to get lessons here," said Bob Klein of the Tanglewood Lakes Golf Club. "We'll have a golf pro, we'll have a lot of test clubs for them so they can try out their different brands of clubs to see what they like."
Monday afternoon everyone involved in the project got a glimpse of what's to come, as the dome was temporarily inflated to do some interior work. Later this week, the dome rises for good.
The dome is located next to the Tanglewood Lakes Golf Club on the Frontage Road along the Seward Highway near Huffman. The owners hope to have the driving range open by the middle of next month.
The owners say they're still working out the prices. But they say that instead of charging by the basket, they'll charge by the time. For instance, they might charge $10 for 30 minutes. So, golfers will get unlimited balls to hit during that time period.
