I fracrured my wrist about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I fractured my ulnar styloid. I have been in a hard brace for the duration and took it off today to test it out. My wrist is 75% better already and I already have some strength much better mobility etc.. I actually went swimming and lightly worked it out. This is the first time in my life that I broke something and was wondering how long the recovery is. I mean my wrist is improving but still not nearly 100% and I want to know how long. I also would like to know what exercises for therapy on the wrist to speed recovery and strengthen it. Finally what preventative exercises for strengthening the muscles and tendons. I guess the most important part of this question is how long til I am 100% and when can I start light bag work?

Thank you very much

Dan

Dont know much about this but my ribs got cracked on a few occasions in the past from sparring and I was told by the doctor to drink high calcium low fat milk.

Do exercises that work the wrist flexors and extensors. In other words, rest your arms on your thighs, take a barbell or dumbbells in your hands, and flex the wrists upwards from the palm downwards position, then turn the hands palm up and flex the hands upwards in the opposite direction. Also rotate the hands circularly counterclockwise, then counterclockwise in order to stretch the muscles and ligaments and break up the scar tissue. Because the wrists have so many bones, as well as ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels running through them, there is no guarantee you will ever regain 100% mobility. Try to be careful when you are sparring, hitting the heavy bag, etc....

well at least keeping your thread at the top of the page!

Anyway about the wrist - did you have problems with it before you broke it? I injured what might be a ligament doing weights months ago on my left wrist. Not much problems punching with it, but if I twist it the wrong way it is really painful, have to be careful throwing left hooks. It around the bone area below the little finger. Is that where yours is injured?

I dont hardly do bicep curls anymore but I cant do them with a straight barbell for example because I need to twist the wrist outwards.

I would see a good physiotherapist to find out ways to strengthen and protect it
for the future.

Yeah I need to do the same. I had no issues with it before the fracture and need to know how to rehab it. I did swimming the past 2 days with alot of treading water my first real exercize of the wrist and already feels much better, I am very encouraged really...

thanks trmmo
