Regardless of who you intend to vote for, this year's attempted suppression of the vote by Republicans and alleged registration of 1 million Dick Tracy's in each swing state by Democrats has to bother you.
We are (allegedly) a representitive Democracy, which means th power is supposed to land in our hands. Why don't we put that power to good use, and do something to curtail these possibilities in the future. I know there are more ways than this, but there are 3 simple things we could lobby our representitives in government for that would help in the next race;
Make it illegal for the parties or 527s or other politically allied bodies to fund registration drives, especially those that pay a "bounty" for registering people loyal to the party funding the registration campaign.
A complete elimination of non-governmental registration would be best.
Require that the person registering be given a receipt of their registration, complete with the name and address of the person registering and the company the registrar represents.
Require that a government issued photo ID be presented at both the time of registration and at the polling places. Surprizingly few states require this.
What do you think?
