My hubby left today for L.A. He is taking a Krav Maga instructor training course starting tomorrow. I have a feeling he is going to come back all bruised and sore....... why do you guys do this to yourselves? I like watching it, but I don't completely understand the willingness to bruise the body. I am allergic to pain.

We are going to offer Krav Maga when we open our school next year along with Little Ninjas and Taekwondo as our main discipline. :)

You guys are awesome for opening your own school, good luck. Get some BJJ in there as well!

Thanks, Hubby plans on having it a mixed martial arts with TKD being the main discipline. He is definitely open to the BJJ idea. He's already started checking it out. :)

If its going to be a mixed martial arts school you defenatly need to get into some ground work......

Also, your husband cant just take a BJJ class and then start teaching it. I would look for a teacher if I where you.......

I will let him know what you are suggesting. I think he will take any reason to take another martial arts class. LOL I see little of him now.....*sigh* But that should change when we open the school.....:)

Can't you get certified to teach Krav Maga if you pay them like a $1000 and take a 6 hour course?

I teach Little Ninjas in my school
And you should probably bring in a BJJ instructor to teach classes in your school and you and your husband should work with him as he gives classes in your school and intergrate the grappling you learn with him into the classes you give

He's taking a 7 day course this month. A second session in October, and a third in January. He will be able to teach up to a certain point after each session. And it was alot more that $1,000. Plus with what we've paid, we get the exclusive rights to teach it within a ten mile radius of our location.

If anybody tries teaching within ten miles of you. You must fight them to the death.

Krav Maga is a brutal art but i wouldnt suggest using it in competition. I've been learning krav maga in the military for the past 3 years, its 100% self defence. It's a killing art perfected in Israel. Defence against a pistol, a rifle, knife, and multiple attackers, its designed to end confrontations as quickly and effiecently as possible.

So it is not good for sport fighting?

08-23-2003, 11:36 PM
Hmmmm woner why if it is so effective we don't see Krav Maga guys winning K1 or UFc or Pride? Sounds like more karate and kung fu BS to me 'we're too deadly to compete' What CRAP.

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:39 PM
did you read it when I said it shouldnt be used in a competition. Its for self protection, the **** they teach us seriously injures the attacker.

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:40 PM
No Kaps, it really cant be applied to sportfighting, like I just said to seraph the techniques applied do serious damage to your attacker.

Seraph_17
08-23-2003, 11:42 PM
If it can be applied so succesfully why aint these guys beating the **** out of LeBanner in K1, or takin on Fedor in Pride???? Hmmm guess it aint that affective. Given the choice I would take on some krav manga dude then a pro MMA fighter.

It does sound kind of suspect. Anything you can get certefied to teach in 7 days sounds like a McDojo to me......

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:45 PM
You missed the whole point of what I said. You could not use krav maga for a sporting event because everything taught is meant to cause serious damage to the attacker. You'd have alot better luck fighting a person who competes in mma then a practioner of krav maga because more then likely a mma fighter will not try to seriously hurt you. If you dont buy it go into a real krav maga school and **** with one of them.

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:45 PM
I think that certification in seven days is a load of bull**** and is probably a mcdojo.

We have a Krav Maga school near here, No MMA gyms or anything I could use in MMA around. I was thinking of checking it out but if I cant use it in the Ring/Cage I dont wanna waste my time.......

Fury Dragon
08-23-2003, 11:49 PM
I've already checked out a Krav Maga school. I don't like it. You learn phoney gun, knife and self-defense applications just like any other school.

You're studying for the purpose of competing. Krav Maga is good for looking bad ass. That's about it. They say it's the Israeli military style...well...nuff said.

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:51 PM
Go check it out, for personal self defence I dont think there is a better art in the world. It's offered to all branches of the armed service. Special ops teams train it, being a raven I been practicing it for roughly three years and I'm nowhere near qualified to instruct, that seminar is more then likely a mcdojo and isnt part of the ikmf

The problem is, I dont know if I am getting into a McDojo or a good place......

KimuraMan

yeah the israeli's devoped the art in 1948. What do you mean by the nuff said comment towards israel?

Well maybe the place I have experience with is another non-affiliated McDojo. Who knows?

KimuraMan
08-23-2003, 11:58 PM
Theres alot of mcdojos out there claiming to teach bjj or krav maga. In my home town back in massachusetts there was a american taekwondo association school claiming to teach hapkido and krav maga also, when asked for a certification they said they dont need to divuldge that to me. ****in mcdojos

Btw, Krav Maga is effective. There's a difference between competition fighting, and street fighting. Krav Maga focuses on real fighting.

Anyone who says that's bull****, I can introduce you to a very good Krav Maga instructor and you can tell him you think his style is bull****....

The Jake

KimuraMan - I was defending the art too. I don't practise it really, but I have done a few street fighting classes that incorporate a lot of elements of styles like Krav Maga.

Yes, we are aware of that. Our daughter was attacked last year, and she's the one that had not continued with the TKD. We would like all three of our kids to be able to defend themselves. TKD may not be enough these days. We don't want them to fight, we just want them to be able to walk away from something alive. It scared her and us.

http://kravmaga.com/ProShop/seminars/seminars.html

Does this tell you anything? This is the official website. My hubby is smart enough to check into anything before spending alot of money as an investment for the school. He's been taking KravMaga for some time, he's now becoming certified to teach it. He called tonight and he said it was brutal. I've watched him and our daughter learn it and practice it. Our daughter is quite a challenge for her own father. She's learned alot and I have no problem letting my daughter go places because I know she can take care of herself. Our other daughter's boyfriend mouthed off to some guys one day and I was pissed. I told him if you can't back your words, don't say them. (four guys in a car were calling the girls nasty names) He was the guy with our other daughter when attacked last summer. He didn't really fight back because he is not a big guy. Busted jaw, tooth and stitches. And he still hasn't doesn't done anything to learn how to defend himself, or our daughter. I would lay odds on my 15 yr old girl before I gave them to him.

Krav Maga is pretty ****in deadly from what I know... luckily I have a gym nearby that I found off of the actual official international krav maga web page if i remember correctly... so I don't think its a mcdojo but i still have to check it out.

KimuraMan

I dont think you mentioned before that he has been taking it in the past, it sounded to us like you said he was going to three seminars and would become certified to teach it without having any prior training in it. Which i think is the reason that some people came out thinking it was a load of crap. It makes more sence now that you brought out the rest of the details mad crew

Krav Maga is good if taught right, but with there bull**** certification system its all ****ed now anyone who has some time and money can get certified in it
I train for the streets myself and my training also can carry over to the ring - To me Krav Maga is crap
