The recent arrest of former wartime Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has made headlines around the world and especially in Europe and ends a 13 year man hunt. In a surprising turn of events, Karadzic was practicing alternative medicine openly in Belgrade, Serbia under the alias “Dragan Babic.” Here’s a link to a taped video of him at a conference in the Serbian capital:

The reason I posted this thread here in the Limey Lounge is because I’m assuming this story is much bigger in Europe than here in the States. Also, I studied the breakup of Yugoslavia in college and was fascinated by the stories and players, such as the charismatic Bosnian Serb leader Karadic, Croat Ante Gotovina, Voijslav Seselj, and others, of the wars 1990-1999…

Also, I find it fascinating that Karadzic would so recklessly go about his business in, of all places, Belgrade, so openly. Anyways, what are your thoughts/opinions on this huge news story?...

I just find it very ironic that this man who committed these crimes against humanity in Bosnia will face justice in the war crimes, while Saddam Hussein had a trial in Iraq that was like 5 month long was given the death penalty and videotaped. I hope this will help the Bosnians in their grieving process and move along in their lives. I have a lot of Bosnians friends about 2 weeks ago before in a soccer match we had a minute silence to mark the day the massacres took place.

Just wondering do Serbians, Bosnians, Albanians, Croats and Macedonians all speak the same language or is it different.

serbian is almost the same as croatian, difference is in some words but we understand eachother like we speak the same language...

bosnian language doesn't exist (it would be like someone from australia/america says he doesn't speak english but australian/american)

macedonian and slovenian are slightly different then serbo-croatian but in basic very similar

albanian is tottaly different language which hasn't got any similarities with slavic languages, although many albanians from the balkans speak solid serbian

he took the identity of dragan dabic not babic, but never mind.....

the thing that fascinates me is how he was going out public like he never gave a **** if he would be arrested....he was so into this role of doctor he even cured a child who had disintegrative disorder

They should hang him on the orthodox xmas (5th Jan?) to show that they are fair. Nothing they can do will be punishment enough, in their 5 star hotel type prisons. He has been living in a bearded prison for ten years anyway. If they don't put him in a state penetentiary or HMP Bellmarsh, then he will only get the punishment he deserves when he goes to meet his mate Slobodan in hell.

Karadzic had no morality. Even his daughter shot herself when she found out what her father was involved in.

They need to find Mladic next. Sbrebrenica was one of the most despicable acts in human history.
