Who wins and why?

View Full Version : Rocky Marciano vs Mike Tyson 15 rounds JayWater39 07-22-2008, 11:22 AM Who wins and why? mangler 07-22-2008, 11:30 AM Neither guy needed that many rds to KO somebody, and no way this woulda gone to a decision. Whenever Mike is mentioned in one of these dream fights, we're talkin prime Mike, and in that case I pick him over a lotta great champs. Inside the distance that is. If this went the full 15, no way Mike would win, his stamina wasn't great even when he was young. But in a batlle of 2 guys wit KO power, Mike was faster wit his combos, so I give him the nod. them_apples 07-22-2008, 06:16 PM There is just no way the fight lasts 15 rounds, but Prime mike wins. Marciano won't be hurting Prime Mike, he's to slow, so he loses a decision if it went 15. Tyson's Stamina was never bad enough to hinder his performance. slicksouthpaw16 07-22-2008, 09:22 PM I would favor Tyson by decision. He was simply too fast in his younger days and Marciano was there to be hit and early, Tyson would get the better of the inside exchanges when he actually had the stamina to do it. Tyson would run into problems late with Marciano becuase he always had trouble with fighters that fought him back and was not intimidated. Where he would run into even more trouble with Rocky is that fact that Marciano has better stamina, could truely punch and had a great chin and would be there in his face. All in all, i see Tyson pulling it out. poet682006 07-23-2008, 01:35 PM I can't see anyone getting a clean KO against Marciano's chin (or against Tyson's chin for that matter). If there's a stoppage then I'd see it being a ref stoppage. Matchups between similar world-class fighters (in this case short-armed, hard-punching pressure fighters) I normally consider toss-ups. Marciano has a major edge in stamina while Tyson is the quicker puncher. Would Tyson pile-up enough punishment and points early or would Marciano be able to weather the storm and come on late? Tyson usually gasses after 6 rounds so in a 15 round fight the early point advantage isn't as significant. BUT the actual punishment Mike dishes out adds up and will be a factor up untill the end. Marciano would likely be busted open as well. Marciano's stamina is a major factor here as he would still be throwing bombs at the final bell and wouldn't even be breathing hard. A series of hard, clean shots in the late rounds by Marciano would likely render Tyson helpless and prompt a referee stoppage. In contrast, a Marciano battered and bleeding from Tyson's early onslaught may very well be just a punch or two away himself from the ref stepping in. The verdict? This is not a fancy fight. This is a brutal all-action slugfest that would easily get Fight-Of-The-Year kudos. My inclination is to go with Tyson as I think the punishment he would dish out would influence the referee to be more mindfull of Marciano's condition late and be more inclined to step in and stop it. I wouldn't want to bet the house on it though: I could easily see Marciano by late stoppage. Ultimately I just see the Tyson victory as being a bit more likely. Poet Geogoreya 07-28-2008, 08:39 AM I think if 15 round surely iron mike will win the fight not only he will win the fight he will win KO at the 13 or 14 because marciano punches are very slow and mike head movement are very quick. also marciano have a short reach and a short body. surely mike will kill him. poet682006 07-28-2008, 08:59 AM I think if 15 round surely iron mike will win the fight not only he will win the fight he will win KO at the 13 or 14 because marciano punches are very slow and mike head movement are very quick. also marciano have a short reach and a short body. surely mike will kill him. Ummm, newsflash: Tyson ALSO had a short reach and short body. Height: Marciano 5' 10 1/2" Tyson 5' 11" Reach: Marciano 68" Tyson 71" Poet Southpaw Stinger 07-28-2008, 10:58 AM I'd go with Tyson by TKO/stoppage. Those fast hard combos of Mikes would hurt the Rock and a ref would probably end it after a while, with the Rock still on his feet or climbing off the canvas. If it goes the distance, Mike would take it due to the likelyhood of him outlanding the Rock by a fair margin. res 07-28-2008, 11:40 AM Tyson K.O. There is a way to survive full length matches with prime Tyson, but you don't do it by scrapping with him (unless you have Foreman-like power) which is what we know Marciano would be doing. TEDetc 07-28-2008, 07:39 PM Rocky Marciano KO 10-14. Marciano fought in an era where he was hit by those small rough gloves ( Nothing like the pathetic pillow cases they wear today ) then there's the fact Marciano beat champions and hard hitting fighters he was also only dropped once (I think) when he was caught cold and half-asleep by archie moore. If it's 15 rounds and small gloves Tyson wouldn't last, Marciano would be on him pinning him against the ropes getting close to him and just wearing tyson down while being able to absorb his shots. Tyson in his "prime" never beat anyone worth mentioning imo. res 07-28-2008, 10:19 PM If it's 15 rounds and small gloves Tyson wouldn't last, Marciano would be on him pinning him against the ropes getting close to him and just wearing tyson down while being able to absorb his shots. :lol1: :haha::rofl::rofl: TEDetc 07-29-2008, 03:41 AM Way to try and refute my points there. Good job. rep+ alishuffle 07-29-2008, 10:42 AM Marciano had never fought anybody who had the fury of Mike Tyson plain and simple. Tyson had his problems, but if you got a Tyson in the right frame of mind, he would have Marciano cut and spouting blood inside of 3 rounds. Marciano was dropped by the smaller Archie Moore, and by Jersey Joe Walcott, who although not smaller, was no Mike Tyson. And a prime Tyson had one helluva chin. Southpaw Stinger 07-29-2008, 12:48 PM Rocky Marciano KO 10-14. Tyson in his "prime" never beat anyone worth mentioning imo. Marciano used 6 - 8oz gloves. Tyson used 8 - 10 oz gloves. Not too much difference. Besides it also means Tyson gets some extra speed/power on his shots too, which is scary considering his existing speed/power with the 10oz gloves. Fidayin 07-29-2008, 03:12 PM tyson knocks marciano inside 4 rounds Thunder Lips 07-30-2008, 12:23 AM Tyson would have to overwhelm him early with his fast combos and power, forcing in early stoppage on the durable Marciano. Tyson certainly has the ability to stop anyone if he can get to them early and Rocky has showed some vunerability to early barrages though he always found a way to survive. It should be noted that Marciano was a strong clincher and wasn't above getting dirty on the inside; something that gave Tyson trouble throughout his career. If this goes past 7 I don't see Mike making it to the final bell. Marciano is superior strategically, more confident, and his high workrate in the late rounds would be a nightmare for Tyson as he slows down, gets frustrated, and becomes easier to hit and push around. Marciano's power punch output was just staggering in the last half of fights and a fatigued discouraged Tyson wouldn't be able to do much against it. The age old prediction: Tyson early or Marciano late. I would lean towards a late Rocky stoppage. Also while Rocky's brutal infighting got him cut and banged up his opponents usually got the worse of it and Tyson doesn't have a history of reacting well to cuts. them_apples 07-30-2008, 12:35 AM Tyson with 8 oz gloves sounds brutal..I really don't see the comparison vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
