ARSENE WENGER has blamed Arsenal’s failure to win a trophy last season on Lady Luck.

The griping Gunners boss claims the 2007-08 campaign was by far the “unluckiest” of all his 12 seasons in charge in north London.

Wenger’s men were third in the Premier League and reached the Champions League last eight.

But the Frenchman claims that his team’s dreams were scuppered by injuries to many of their key players and by poor refereeing decisions.

Asked if last season was his unluckiest at Arsenal, Wenger replied: “It was by far — with the decisions and injuries.

''At some stages you could not believe how bad it was. But you have to deal with that.”

Wenger’s side kick off their pre-season today at near neighbours Barnet.

WTF is AW talking about we were unlucky no we brought a player in Rosicky who was injury prone at Dortmund and we also knew Phillipe Senderos would cost us in big game cause he cost us in the 2 previous seasons, we also knew Toure was going to the AN and decided to stick by Senderos if we had brought a CB in the summer or in january i think we would have won the league, IMO we lost to Pool cause we could not defend not because they were the better side

how is that unlucky ,if we had a solid defence like Man Utd ,Chelsea ,Pool we would have won the league IMO

Safe hands should of retired before then remember that goal he conceeded off a corner in one of the quailifiers against Maccedonia

England would have gone out anyway Brazil were all over us in that game and it was just a matter of time till they got a second goal what with Beckham & Gerrard smashing aimless balls 50 /60 yards to the 5 ft 6 Michael Owen conceeding possesion every 5 minutes then running about like headless chickens trying to win it back lol

Walcott rues early call-up
Arsenal forward feels more respected in England setup
By Lewis Rutledge Last updated: 20th July 2008

Theo Walcott has admitted that being called up to the England squad for the last World Cup did not help his development.

The Arsenal forward was selected in Sven Goran Eriksson's party for the tournament in Germany in 2006 despite not having played a match in the Premier League.

Walcott was aged just 17 at the time and, although he enjoyed the experience, he concedes that it was difficult to be thrust into the spotlight.

"I didn't expect the call-up," he told The Observer. "There was a lot of pressure on me straight away.

"With most young players their development is not on the telly or spoken about, but with me it was different.

"The England call-up didn't help my development, because everyone was expecting something straight away.

"In the end it was a good experience, but at the time it was like, 'whoa'."

Welcomed
Walcott did not play in the World Cup and only made his second international appearance last month when Fabio Capello picked him for the friendly with Trinidad & Tobago.

The former Southampton forward accepts that he felt much more ready and was also given more respect by his team-mates.

He explained: "Whereas before I hadn't played in the Premier League, some players were probably thinking 'What's he doing here? He doesn't deserve to be here', now I'd been doing well.

"The players made me feel welcome, they trusted me on the ball - which was nice. I felt more part of the squad."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expects star striker Emmanuel Adebayor to still be a Gunner for the start of the new season.

Adebayor has been strongly linked with a summer move to Milan, although Arsenal have always maintained their desire to retain the Togo international.

Speaking after Arsenal's 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Barnet, Wenger stated he expects Adebayor to make his first appearance at training.

"Adebayor is under contract," Wenger told Sky Sports News. "We expect him to turn up on Monday and practice with us."

"Of course," he replied when asked if Adebayor will be with Arsenal at the start of the new Premier League season.

Anticipation
Wenger has lost Alexander Hleb although the French tactician was anticipating his exit to Barcelona by admitting they planned on signing Samir Nasri as his replacement some time ago.

"He had an opportunity to leave. He's done three years. I'd loved him to stay but on the other hand he was in a strong position," he continued.

"We had to accept that and we anticipated that by bringing Nasri in. So that was planned for a long, long time ago."

Arsenal have snapped up Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff this summer and Wenger has confirmed he is looking to add to his squad prior to the transfer window closing.

He said: "Yes you can expect signings. I don't know where and how many, but we're in the market. If there's a good opportunity we'll take it."

we need a no nonesense CB who is gonna put his head in where it hurts who is gonne put the ball in row Z when it is boucing about in the box, someone who is not gonna allow the ball to bounce when the ball is played into the box, someone who is gonna make decisive decisions in the box

to many times we have been undone by route one football ,Senderos is not a terrible defender IMO he is just not that good he has no pace and u cant afford to have a lack of pace when u play in the Arsenal side cause they push up and play such a high line and thats why Senderos has been undone by balls over the top he has no pace one thing Sol Campebll beside his strength was pace ,when Senderos is defending the egde of the box and Arsenal are sitting deep counter attacking and he is not being drawed off his 18 yard line he is quite effective thats why he did okay when Arsenal went on their CL run cause Arsenal played counter attacking football with one man upfront Henry ,they were able to pack the midlfeild etc ,one of Senderos strengths is in the air believe it or not i know Drogba had him in the Carling Cup final lol but in general his ariel ability is one of his best assets thats why he was compard to Tony Adams when he was coming through the youth set up

oh yeah he has no agility either remember Benny Mcarthy turning him on the edge of the Box and then spanking the ball in the top corner when Blackburn knocked us out the Fa Cup apart from all this he is not that bad LMAO

nah in all fairness we need to get rid of him but he could do a decent Job for a lower Premiership team with less preassure on him cause i think that is also one of his flaws he cant handle playing for a big club the preassure gets to him in big games when he is expected to perform

Excellent post, I agree, Senderos is a decent player, he is just not Premier League material. Being compared to Tony Adams is huge, Tony Adams was the ****ing man and one of the best Arsenal has ever had. So I think being as young as he was, being compared to him and playing in probaly the biggest league in the world got to him.

And yeah about our CB, we need one who will "take one for the team" like Sol Campbell used to do.

Coquelin looks like a fantastic player, looks like Wenger pulled out another gem!

yeah he looked very good ,i was disapointed in Randall ,Walcott though TBH ,Theo needs to learn how to use his pace more efficiently he thinks he can just push them ball past everyone and beat them in a foot race but he needs to realise he is not as strong as Henry and most the time defenders can read what he is going to do cause he is always looking to knock the ball and skin the defender down the line

mixed feelings about Bendtner his first touch is a little heavy but he is always a goal threat

Justin Hoyte is just toilet why is it when we start a move we can knock the ball about and u can gurantee when the ball comes to Hoyte the move will break down ,he cant cross the ball and he cant defend either IMO he as never royally ****ed up for Arsenal but he offers nothing going foward and when he has faced wingers in the past he has a tendency back off and back off without putting a challenge in ,most of the time inviting the cross or giving the winger the opurtunity to take him on

Maybe if we could keep hold of Berbs and Keane, but that looks extremely doubtful.

But with our **** defense and no-one up front we'll be battling relegation for the first of half the season and won't climb higher than 14th.

Shame typical Tottenham, just as things are starting to look bright, and we win a cup, have the deadliest strike partnership in europe (alex fergusons words) and sign some promising players in Modric,Dos Santos and Bostock then we lose our ****ing best players.

Otherwise we might have hammered you 5-1 like last season.:joke:

Gilberto fears for Gunners

Gilberto believes Arsenal must win some silverware this season, but has warned that it will not be easy for his former side.

The Brazilian ended a six-year spell with the Gunners when he completed a move to Panathinaikos earlier in July.

Gilberto's departure followed the exits of Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb, while speculation continues about the future of star striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Arsenal have not lifted a trophy for three seasons and Gilberto fears there may be another barren campaign ahead.

The experienced midfielder has faith in the club's young players, but feels Arsene Wenger needs to be successful in at least one competition to lift pressure at Emirates Stadium.

"This is what they need to achieve - start to win things," he told Arsenal TV Online.

Important
"Of course there is massive pressure on them, but people cannot forget they are still a young side and they have a lot to improve, to grow and to learn, but it will be very important to them if they win something this year.

"I am sure everyone at the club, Arsene, his staff, the players will do the maximum they can to achieve and win titles. This is the target and they won't change it.

"But it will be hard again. It won't be easy because the other teams are stronger than last year and Arsenal will have a hard season, but I am confident they will handle it. I hope they can win this year."

Gilberto could face Arsenal this season if Panathinaikos are drawn in their UEFA Champions League group, but he admits he would not relish such an occasion.

"I hope not, but I think, if it happens, it will be very emotional for me after leaving the club and playing against them in the first season with another club," he explained.

"It is possible. We need to consider that, but both of the teams need to qualify first. I am sure Arsenal will qualify and Panathinaikos will. We will see in the draw."

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has no plans to allow goalkeeper Shay Given to leave the club.

Republic of Ireland international Given, 32, has been a pillar of consistency since he arrived at St James' Park in 1997.

His impressive displays have seen him often linked with a transfer away from Tyneside, with Arsenal the latest club reportedly lining up an offer.

However, Given recently reiterated his commitment to Newcastle amid the speculation surrounding his future.

Crazy summer
And, in a bid to quell the lingering rumours, Keegan is adamant he would not be willing to part company with his first-choice shot-stopper should he receive a bid.

He told the club's official website: "All the talk of Shay leaving, you're going to get that with players because we're in that crazy summer, as I call it, when the press are after stories all the time.

"Of course, they don't always have to be true stories, it can just be fabricated - an insider was heard to say is a favourite story in the paper at that time of year.

"But why get rid of a top class player? We're looking to bring them in to play alongside the ones we've already got."

[QUOTE=hurricane72;3825499]Maybe if we could keep hold of Berbs and Keane, but that looks extremely doubtful.

Otherwise we might have hammered you 5-1 like last season.:joke:

u hammered the B team son dont get carried away

It wasn't the B team, It was your A team with 2 or 3 absentees who came on from 15 mins and onwards into the game.

If your gonna use that I could say because of all the injuries last season we had our B team out virtually all season.

I'm not denying your a much better side, but give credit where it's due and on that day we were the better team and deserved the victory.

Not only that we beat a FULL strength Chelsea in the final, who just missed out on the league and should have won the CL.

I know you hate us that's fair enough but give us some credit when we deserve it.

this is what a liverpool fan said

Just heard a rumour that scares me as a Liverpool fan: Arsenal have contacted the MSI group that currently own Javier Mascherano. Apparently, he has only one year left on his loan deal at Liverpool who don't have the rights to the player. If Arsenal were to succeed in a 20 million bid for him, Liverpool can expect minimal compensation (3-5 million) or have to face losing him for nothing next season. Arsenal see him as the perfect replacement for Flamini, and also know that it would damage Liverpool's transfer activity. We are trying to raise funds by selling Alonso, who we would have to keep at the club if Mascherano were to leave. This would mean that we could only afford one of Robbie Keane and Gareth Barry. We might be forced to buy a cheaper alternative to one of them.

how good would Fabregas and Mascerano be awsome hope this happens

Portuguese midfielder Amaury Bischoff joins Arsenal
Arsenal can today confirm the signing of midfielder Amaury Bischoff.

The French-born Portugal Under-21 international, 21, was a youngster with French clubs SR Colmar and Strasbourg before moving to Werder Bremen in 2005.

Bischoff, who can play either in the centre of midfield or on the right, was a regular at youth levels for Werder Bremen. His one senior appearance for the Bundesliga club came against Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup in 2007.

Amaury has played for France's Under-18 team, however in 2007 he elected to train with Portugal and to date has appeared for their Under-21 side.

Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to welcome Amaury, who will wear squad No 28, and will join up with his team-mates for pre-season when the squad returns from their training camp in Austria.

Liverpool have won the CL that in its self tells u the competition is worthless cause the best teams in Europe do not win the trophy ,its a cup Competition that has been further diluted since the days where only the Champions of each league could participate

Erm remind me of any Silverware which was won last season by Liverpool? Remind me where Liverpool finished last season?

Lets see.
Fabregas - 16 year old youth product from Barcelona, 5 years later he's a world class midfielder.

Clichy - Bought as an 17 year old, now is one of the best left backs around.

Toure - an unkown 21 year old and is now one of the best centre-backs and is a Premier League winner unlike most Liverpool players.

Ljungberg - joined Arsenal at 21 and was instrumental in 2001-02, 2003-04 where they won the Premier League, something Liverpool players are yet to achieve.

These are just a fraction of players bought where Wenger has spent virtually nothing compared to Rafa Benitez. Lets compare:

05-06

Peter Crouch - £7million
Mohamed Sissoko - £5.3 million
José Reina
Boudewijn Zenden - free
Daniel Agger - £5.8million
Robbie Fowler (:lol1:) - free

06-07

Craig Bellamy - £6.5 million
Jermaine Pennant - £6.7 million
Mark Gonzalez - £1.5 million

Not 1 Premier League title and all of them have ****ed off except for Riena, Pennant and Agger but neither of them brought you any success. Just shows how your manager is not only poor at buying players but they also end up ****ing off, where as Wenger buys players and keeps them for a lot longer and turns them in to quality players. Even one of Wenger's worst signings Pascal Cygan won a Premier League title :lol1:

my thoughts on todays match Arsenal v Juventas 0-1

Eboue was a danger with his runs down the right problem is he never actually delivered a decent cross either that or he held onto the ball for to long

Wilshere decent display from Wlishere saw less of him in this match but there is no question he is a future Arsenal star

Adebayor useless first touch spooned a couple of half chances over the bar ,BTW he did not get booed by the fans im not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing TBH

Bendtner first touch of a rapist today all to often his first touch let him down he missed a couple of half chances namely Wilshere's cross which i think he should of burried

Ramsey decent display from Ramsey more to come from the likes of him and Wilshere

Gibbs very steady at LB he never put a foot wrong IMO

Diaby showed us that power in midfield we have been missing since Vieira left he is not as good defensively as Vieira but he has very close control and he makes surging powerfull runs i think he could be a big player this year

Denilson is one of my favourite Arsenal players im glad he is getting his chance and i hope he is picked to start alongside Fabregas, ive always thought he was more talented than Flamini he is not as aggresive in the tackle etc but he is more creative from that deep lying midfield position he reminds me off Alonso in that he is not a great tackler but he has an excellent range of passing and he can do his fair share of tackling ,he is not as defensive as Flamster but i think he can do that job adequately

Justin Hoyte this kid is ****ing toilet he does not royally **** up when he plays its just that he is not good enough to play in the Arsenal side ,when ever the ball comes to him he holds onto it for to long then has to play it ****ing backwards or Square and when he does get a chance to cross he either sticks it in row Z or he overhits the cross or he does not beat the first man i lose count of how many times the moves breaks down when he comes into contact with the ball im all for English players but only if there good enough like Wilshere

i dont trust Fabinaski TBH he did not do a lot wrong but he just does not insprire confidence with his punching etc

Walcott did okay today he is suffering from a lack of confidence IMO and needs to be played centrally if we are to get the best outta him i know the season has not started but already i see signs that his confidence is not what it should be and i think its because he still has not adapted to playing on the wing cause he is not a winger he is a striker

Sendy was Captain today LOL ,Toon need to get a move on and sign big Phil ,please

Carlos Vela looks a great prospect tons of pace great touch can run with ball at pace takes up good postions

BTW Juve's goal was offside and we battered them all game
