I guess maybe it will be easier for you to stop smoking without drinking since that tends to make you want to smoke. I quit smoking about 2 years ago after smoking since I was about 14, Im 25 now. It was really tough, but after about 2 weeks you no longer physically crave cigarettes. My advice is to just quit cold turkey, I dont think you can quit by just cutting down the amout you smoke, you have to do it all at once. Since quitting, I havent had even 1 drag of a cigarette or any other kind of tobacco and I dont even have the urge to smoke anymore. The smell of it makes me want to hurl. After quitting smoking I still drank. I would get massive cravings while drunk but all I would do is drink more until I forgot about the cigs. Thats my advice if you get a craving while drunk. Just drink more. Bombardier 11-01-2004, 12:55 PM You're making a good decision...smoking's ridiculously bad for you. You'd regret it later on if you kept at it. Since I cut back on my drinking I enjoy it much more when I do indulge...plus you save money by having a lower tolerance. Good luck ! Boxerdog 11-01-2004, 01:05 PM Welbutrin helped me to quit and I actually LOST weight while taking it.I don't drink like I used to either but Explosive is right, when I DO go out to play or listen to music and drink a few beers, I want a cig. So I buy a pack (rather than bum) and smoke a few. It has been my experience that the next day, I have no cravings..........just when I drink! Good luck with it......you WILL feel better. abdiel2k3 11-01-2004, 01:11 PM ive given up smoking (18 hrs now) and no booze til 1st dec, detox time. how dull. wow 18hours! dude youve earned a smoke light it up borikua 11-01-2004, 02:32 PM wow 18hours! dude youve earned a smoke light it up haha.....good luck. {BrownBomber} 11-01-2004, 08:31 PM Best Of Luck 4 Reall Bro. Ive tried to quite a few times, I really just dont want to quit when it comes down to it. vB Martin 11-01-2004, 10:40 PM Quitters never win! Winners never quit! People who never win and never quit are stupid;) Seriously, good luck. I've been smoking longer than than you've been alive and dont have the will to quit. Of course I'm a very active person, so it doesn't affect me as badly, but sometimes I wonder what I could accomplish if I did quit. Dark Destroyer 11-02-2004, 06:56 AM Good luck JPW with the smoking. As for drinking that shouldn't be a problem surely :D J ! 11-02-2004, 07:46 AM thanks all who posted here, nice of you, well I wanna give up ciggies, I didnt say Id stopped smokin ;) re the drink yeah was just getintg too much it creeps up on ya, i gotta get fit for diving in Oz in Jan. Dark Destroyer 11-02-2004, 08:47 AM I dont smoke generally before the evening mate weekends included, Im no big puff head, (well not all the time.) yes mate havent missed it along with "the fight" on bbc 2. top stuff. I think some of them have got good potential and i think it's cool people like Audley, Haye and Hatton have been to visit them. It almost seemed to inspire some of them, who do you think will win? I think the North will beat the South ;) J ! 11-02-2004, 08:58 AM well dunno cos it goes down to the last two doesnt it, i think you will end up seeing the biog blonde lad (tony i think) against Joey of the north. If that happens I think Tony will outbox joey but Joey has the better style for the pro's. as they state he is a puncher but under amatuer rules that might not help him I dunno, its an entertaining prog though, im enjoying watchign it. yeah good on the lads for giving their supprt, we coudl use the profiule of the sport being raised! its all good. JOM'S 11-02-2004, 12:40 PM JPW keep on trying my friend, I just barely started smoking 3-4 years ago, and have puff a few before that but never been a real smoker.... but 4 years ago it hit me like a truck, although I still believe I can quit anytime I want to, but every time I do, I end up smoking again... yesterday is my first day of cutting down and trying to maintain, at least 6 sticks a day for starters then totally stop after I reduce my intake, I am still doing okey.... what you are doing is tough but, I wish you all the luck you need.... and I also hope that you wish me luck too... J ! 11-03-2004, 11:34 AM go for it mate, well its been 72 hrs now and its not been too bad. i can recommend Nocorette freshmint gum, I only chew a couple a day when I really crave but it tastes like normal gum not the foul stuff that you normally get! if you wanna quit totally its a useful crutch! go ;) od luck mate JOM'S 11-03-2004, 12:10 PM go for it mate, well its been 72 hrs now and its not been too bad. i can recommend Nocorette freshmint gum, I only chew a couple a day when I really crave but it tastes like normal gum not the foul stuff that you normally get! if you wanna quit totally its a useful crutch! go ;) od luck mate Thanks pal, I am just trying to cut down slowly, I hope this tactic works, what I used to do is to totally stop everything but I always end up not only smoking again but also smoking more.... |
