View Full Version : I chipped in for UFC for the first time and.....
Cuauhtémoc1520 07-07-2008, 12:17 PM I can say I was very dissapointed. Now, I'm a fan of MMA and usually catch the shows and the free fights on ****e but I have never put money towards a PPV.
I thought the undercards were going to be good, action packed and I thought the styles of Griffin and Jackson would make for an exciting match.....I was wrong.
It was terrible as far as excitement goes. The undercards were terrible, boring and a wrestling match. The Litle (sp?) fight was good only because the guy bled like a stuck pig but it was a one sided fight that really wasn't very competative.
The main event lacked any drama or suspence and seemed as though both fighters really didn't want to mix it up.
Maybe I'm wrong but I just think it lacked the real emotion that a major boxing match will give you.
Nodogoshi 07-07-2008, 12:47 PM This card shouldn't've been on PPV.

I thought the main event was pretty fun to watch.
wrestling match.
Yea....I know man. Why would that ever happen?
Even tho alot of MMA guys are trained in wrestling. Why the **** would they use that boring stuff?
Just doesn't make sense.

I thought it was one hell of a fight.
That and Rampage had some problems with Griffin's reach. Espically after Forrest went for the leg.

Somethin about this little comment makes me believe that you don't like MMA at all, and your just saying this to bash it.

I understand they wrestle in MMA, I love to watch MMA as I said. I just think that the fights were touted as being alot better than they actually were. There wasn't really any submission attempts and in the main event I just think they were to tenative.
I love MMA, admititly not like I do boxing but I really enjoy watching it. I was just disapointed with the whole card.
x-PeROxiDE-x 07-07-2008, 03:23 PM I got the card for free, as I live in the UK (God bless Setanta!) but I agree it would not have been worth the PPV price.
The main event was a very good fight though, and neither man was tentative at all.
Griffin knew he couldn't mix it up, so he kept Rampage at a distance with some fantastic kicks, and Rampage tried walking through them, but soon realised he couldn't and ran out of ideas.
Was very tactical, a chess match, and very entertaining to watch the styles contrast.
MatsideObserver 07-07-2008, 04:42 PM I could see how you would think it was boring if you don't follow the sport.
With the level of training these guys are so good (especially defensively) that you don't get the bloodbath unless it is a mismatch.
Eventhough I didn't think he won the fight, Forest had an awesome game plan against Rampage. A few years ago Forest would have tried to mix with Rampage and gotten dropped but he picked his spots, kept Rampage away from him and walked away with the belt.
I actually find it amazing to see Forest get rocked and have enough ring presence to get in a position to regain his bearings or to watch Rampage survive Forest's full mount for over 3 months with relatively little damage.
These guys are good.
sunthunder 07-07-2008, 06:20 PM I found the card a little underwhelming to be honest. For quite a while now, when the UFC has a 205lb title fight, they tend to just let that fight carry the card and fill the undercard with underwhelming match-ups.
Aurelio-Griffin I thought was the best fight of the night. Jackson-Griffin was interesting but didn't blow me away, especially as I wanted Rampage to win.
I am watching it now (Recorded it and hadn't got round to watching it) and so far i am enjoying it. I live in UK and i get it son Setanta which i pay £10 a month for (Setanta FTW!). The fights have been entertaining so far except one, can't remember who it was though.

Actually, I follow the sport very well. I started watching since the UFC 1 and that's no bull****. Like I said, I just think with the styles of Griffin and Jackson, I was expecting a better exchange and it just seemed as neither man wanted to be caught with soemthing big to end the fight.
I was expecting much more and I am looking forward to seeing Irvin vs Silva, since Irvin is my favorite fighter in the UFC.
MatsideObserver 07-08-2008, 09:20 AM Yea it doesn't compare to the early stuff.
Now the fights are stopped at the first sign of trouble and everyone leaves the ring under their own power.
