View Full Version : Best Round of All Time TysonForeman 10-31-2004, 05:58 PM What is the greatest round of all time. I haven't seen that much, but I have to say that Gatti-Ward I R9 was amazing. Hagler-Hearns R1 was just as good. Hurlex 10-31-2004, 07:31 PM i second that ..and add ali forman..i think round 8 (basically when ali ko's him) f**king amazing to see a monster fall like that Nautilus 10-31-2004, 07:43 PM The last round of Jirov-Toney. LuKahnLi 10-31-2004, 08:00 PM Round 4 of Foreman Lyle. TysonForeman 10-31-2004, 08:13 PM Round 4 of Foreman Lyle. I just watched that about 3 minutes ago, that and R5 are some oft the greatest heavyweight rounds of all time. Forget Bowe-Holyfield R10, Foreman-Lyle was amazing. tys0n 10-31-2004, 11:04 PM i liked round 2 of klitscho vs lewis. that was pretty exciting. Dr.Depravity 10-31-2004, 11:25 PM 9 of Gatti Ward. MetalVomit 10-31-2004, 11:36 PM 9 of Gatti Ward. that was insane. Dr.Depravity 10-31-2004, 11:43 PM that was insane. This may sound corny, but I kep thinking "This is better than anyone could imagine, betther than even hollywood could dream up" TysonForeman 11-01-2004, 12:18 AM I don't know, the last round of Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed was pretty exciting, what with the double knockdown, I don't think anything could be more amazing than that kind of an end to a furious slugfest. If that happened in real life I'd have a stroke. But I agree, R9 Gatti-Ward I was probably as good as any real boxing match could ever be, anymore and both guys would have been killed. And one thing that made it even better was the commentary. Manny Stewart just saying "Oh my god..." and that this was more than you could dream of. Then Jim Lampley says "Ward nods as if to say: come on! Come On! COME ON LET'S FIGHT!!", which is the greatest line from a commentator that I have ever heard. I don't think it could get better. (I hate it when the commentators don't even seem excited) TysonForeman 11-01-2004, 12:19 AM That gives me an idea for another thread. puppy_dogg 11-01-2004, 12:38 AM i like round 12 of de la hoya-quartey, its very exciting, they both punch themselves out completley. GxBrak 11-01-2004, 01:13 AM i would say hagler hearns because of the back and forth bombs they were throwing or round 8 of foreman vs ali, just how quickly ali turned things around Soundtraveler 11-01-2004, 02:50 AM I don't know, the last round of Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed was pretty exciting, what with the double knockdown, I don't think anything could be more amazing than that kind of an end to a furious slugfest. (I hate it when the commentators don't even seem excited) Nice - I like that post good job! :D JOM'S 11-01-2004, 03:42 AM for the fights that I have seen live while it was happening, or in my case on a slightly delayed telecast, its Round 1 of Tommy "Hit Man" Hearns against Marvelous Marvin Hagler, lucky I did not bet on that fight or I would have a heart attack.... LuKahnLi 11-01-2004, 06:42 AM i like round 12 of de la hoya-quartey, its very exciting, they both punch themselves out completley. I just don't see what is so great about that round. Hoya punched himself out after the first minute and did nothing else. pinkpanther 11-01-2004, 06:52 AM There are some good rounds there, Gatti Ward R9 classic, Don't forget Benn V G-man R1 or R2 unbelivable! talk about bombs. Bombardier 11-01-2004, 08:46 AM Anyone ever notice the similarities between Gatti-Ward I R9 and Hagler-Hearns R1? Both started out with one fighter getting hti hard and looking like they might be out...Hagler didn't go down like Gatti did, but was still shaken by one of Hearns' throws. Both rounds ended with the men just standing there trading punches, with defence totally out the window. Man, great rounds. puppy_dogg 11-01-2004, 08:51 AM I just don't see what is so great about that round. Hoya punched himself out after the first minute and did nothing else. its dramatic cause he knew he was behind on the cards, he cornered quartey and went after him but quartey was still fighting back. the crowd and jim lampley screaming also add to the affect. :D markosg19 11-01-2004, 09:12 AM hagler-hearns 1 morales-barerra 5 bowe-holyfield 10 Three awesome rounds GxBrak 11-01-2004, 10:12 AM yeah i would agree that bowe-holyfield 10 can be ranked among hagler hearns 1 jack_the_rippuh 11-01-2004, 12:13 PM Round 7 of De La Hoya vs. Hopkins. and Round 6 of De La Hoya vs. Sturm Sidestep_1 11-01-2004, 12:28 PM Manuel Gomez vs. Jeffrey Hill (Light Middelweight). The only round of that fight was incredible  ! First Gomez was floored and seemed to out. Later he decked Hill with a lucky punch. Elvir Muriqi vs. Sam Ahmad (Light Heavyweight). This fight looked like a surreal movie slugfest. Muriqi was down four times, Ahmad three times. All three rounds are very exciting. The rounds you guys mentioned are from better fights, but my rounds are also must see rounds :) . Kimmy 11-01-2004, 02:15 PM I think De La Hoya Vs Quartey rd 12 pretty decent, the begining and the final 20 secs bigdlb12 11-01-2004, 02:22 PM MAB vs Barrera 1 rd # 5 borikua 11-01-2004, 02:44 PM Tito-Yory boy 4th rd. :D TysonForeman 11-01-2004, 04:43 PM Nice - I like that post good job! :D Thanks, I'm trying to get 100 posts so I can download videos again, but I'm not going to do it just by flooding the board with crap. Also, I agree Gatti-Ward R9 and Hagler-Hearns R1 are very similar, probably the most constant action I've seen in a fight, and a great ebb and flow. And I think those rounds have the highest amount of punches landed. GW R9 had like 110, HH-R1 had around 106. I think going through one round like that would make you sore for a week. Texasboy34 11-01-2004, 04:47 PM The last round of Taylor-Chavez was pretty cool... Meldrick deserved to win, but that was still an awesome round/fight. realtim 11-03-2004, 08:32 AM Gomez Arthur R3 GxBrak 11-03-2004, 02:41 PM just thought of a new one, rd 15 spinks v. ali 1 lsk 11-03-2004, 03:52 PM Bowe vs holyfield R10 was one or the best Truth 11-03-2004, 04:01 PM round 1 of Hagler vs. Hearns Champoreeno 11-03-2004, 04:10 PM I don't know, the last round of Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed was pretty exciting, what with the double knockdown, I don't think anything could be more amazing than that kind of an end to a furious slugfest. (I hate it when the commentators don't even seem excited) Yeah that was pretty good. How about Ward-Gatti 3 R7 when all announcers pause as they watch Gatti continue to throw his broken right hand, then Merchant breaks the silence with what is yet again a justifiably incredulous "Oh my God" TysonForeman 11-03-2004, 07:26 PM I must say the Gatti-Ward trilogy was astonishing. phallus 11-03-2004, 09:43 PM My favorite round is Round 1 of Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Willard, i find myself watching it again and again teakay 11-03-2004, 09:53 PM I'd have to go with Gatti-Ward R9 TysonForeman 11-03-2004, 10:47 PM My favorite round is Round 1 of Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Willard, i find myself watching it again and again Come on that's just one guy getting beaten senseless! It does showcase Dempsey's punching technique pretty well I guess. strictlydope 11-04-2004, 01:58 AM hagler hearns round 1 was sick Dark Destroyer 11-04-2004, 05:11 AM Round 1 of Hagler-Hearns for me. Nothing comes near to the brutality and electricity in the ring that night. Two elite unbelievable fighters giving it their all. Amazing  jabin 11-04-2004, 05:12 AM I think the best round was the heavyweight fight between Larry Holmes and "Mandingo" Michael_Selway 11-04-2004, 08:30 AM forrest mosley R2 was the best ever i think jabsRstiff 11-04-2004, 08:48 AM Hagler-Hearns.....it's the BENCHMARK. Holmes-Norton...the FIFTEENTH round of an incredibly fought, incredibly close fight....& it was the deciding round of the fight.... ...& both went out & fought like it was. Norton battering Holmes in the first minute....Holmes reaching down deep into somewhere & finding the strength to unleash hell on Norton. J ! 11-04-2004, 08:49 AM the last round (9th)of Carl Thomson Vs Seb Rothman if you havent seen it you must. Supafly25 11-04-2004, 09:14 AM Ward vs Gatti I Rd 9 Morales vs Barrera I Rd 5 Hearns vs Hagler Rd 1 Corrales vs Casamayor I Rd 4 Pacman vs Marquez Rd 1 Freitas vs Barrios Rd 11 BoxingPromoter 11-04-2004, 10:11 AM there are so many great rounds in boxing history it wouldn't do justice just to pick one round. One of my picks would be Ali-Frazier III round 13 or 14. What a great epic battle that was. Another great round would have to be round 10 between Holyfield and Foreman. gogan 11-04-2004, 11:43 AM Rocky Vs. Appolo creed 3rd round was amazing!!!!!!!! Assman 11-04-2004, 01:49 PM You've gotta add Leonard-Hagler rd. 12. Both knew that they needed it. Hagler was desperate and Leonard was dead tired. Somehow he sucked it up and it made for one of the most dramatic rounds ever. Also gotta say Tyson-Douglas rd. 9 I believe. The round after he knocks Douglas down. Tyson went out there to finish the job (and he is one of the best finishers ever), and Douglas almost ended up taking him out. TysonForeman 11-04-2004, 04:07 PM Tyson-Douglas R9 was pretty cool. Larry Merchant just yells "MIKE IS HURT" as Douglas backs him onto the ropes and tears into him. It was great. One thing I don't understand. In a fight where it's going into the last round, and one guy needs a KO to win, why doesn't he just go insane on his opponent? dansweeney 11-04-2004, 06:49 PM dont know if you guys saw this but any round of the daniel eduord willie gibbs fight on espn a couple months ago, that fight was crazy miron_lang 11-05-2004, 03:45 AM Round 1 of Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns is the greatest round of ALL TIME. FistoftheDallasStar 11-05-2004, 04:13 AM Foreman vs. Lyle round four Hagler vs. Hearns round one McClellan vs. Benn round one Bowe vs. Holyfield round ten garretrevels 11-05-2004, 12:31 PM there was a round (maybe round 3) in the ward burton fight that was crazy and one in the holyfield dokes fight as well cant remember the round TheGreat1 11-05-2004, 01:53 PM Round 4 of Foreman Lyle. I agree, that was an amazing round. also foreman-holyfield rd 9 NAB 11-11-2004, 01:17 AM Not sure what round it was but it was between Oba Carr & Livingstone Bramble. The 5th I think. |
