View Full Version : De La Hoya's Heart?
Pound4Pound1986 10-31-2004, 04:57 PM how would you rate it between 1 and 10?
Oscar said
I have what it takes to get up
Hopkins got him with a left hook to the body
forward it to Mayorga-Tito, we saw the same shot from Tito to Mayorga in the body, Mayorga was able to get up, but Oscar wasnt all he did was cry in the ground, does Oscar have all the heart he says he does? my answer is NO i rate his heart 7/10
Sir_Jose 10-31-2004, 05:03 PM 10 easy.
He has never ducked anyone and has always gone out of his way to make the big fights. He gones from 130lbs all the way up to 160lbs.
Just because you seen two guys get hit with body shots doesn't mean they both felt the same. There is no shame in losing to an all time great fighter like Hopkins.

lol... .
Sir_Jose 10-31-2004, 05:11 PM lol... .
wanna explain?
kevvy1979 10-31-2004, 05:16 PM DLH's heart should not be questioned, but still some do.
borikua 10-31-2004, 05:18 PM IMO overall 7...last 2 performances 4.
Pound4Pound1986 10-31-2004, 05:25 PM no doubt it shouldnt be questioned, hes gotten up from knockdowns to win fights, ducks no-body, but lately makes me wonder, he opens up the investigations (take the loss like a man), cant get up from hops punch, IMO tito hit mayo with a way harder shot than Hopkins punch to dlh. If he really has a lot of heart and luv for the sport he will give sturm his rematch
Exciterx24 10-31-2004, 05:28 PM Up until welter he took on the best fighters available. The last three years have been different. 6 out of 10.
borikua 10-31-2004, 05:32 PM no doubt it shouldnt be questioned, hes gotten up from knockdowns to win fights, ducks no-body, but lately makes me wonder, he opens up the investigations (take the loss like a man), cant get up from hops punch, IMO tito hit mayo with a way harder shot than Hopkins punch to dlh. nahh...he will not give Sturm a rematch...he knows that sturm can kik his ass at 160...he needs to go down in weight...
kevvy1979 10-31-2004, 05:37 PM Yes to 154,and stay there. There are fights to be made there as well.
m00ks 10-31-2004, 05:38 PM wanna explain?
Is there a point. Not to discredit the punch, I just think he could have at least tried to get up instead of rolling over like that.
borikua 10-31-2004, 05:43 PM i thought that nard stab him when he started to scream and roll around the canvas...
Exciterx24 10-31-2004, 05:45 PM [QUOTE=borikua]nahh...he will not give Sturm a rematch...he knows that sturm can kik his ass at 160...he needs to go down in weight...
DLH should go back to 154 and maybe get another fight against Mosley but make sure the judges are fair.
Borikua, a quién le vas a dar el voto el martes??

Not an Oscar fan but your right he never ducked anyone. You have to give him credit for stepping up against Hopkins.
well , he was overprotected at the start of his career . but at 147 he took on the bests and proved he had the heart of a lion. to come out of east LA and become a star and marry a hot girl , he takes hard work and big heart.
i just cant understand how people can say he took a dive against hopkins.
if you ever boxed and took a shot right in th liver , you know your whole body stops working. it s medical , a shocked liver calls all the blood from the legs and arms to protect him , putting the whole nervous and circulatory systems into a panick. no one can go up from a liver shot. it s medecine.

I don't even know if that was the liver he hit. Dorin tried to walk and was able to move a step or two before kneeling down and spitting out blood. THAT was a motha****ing liver shot. DLH looked more like my sister rolling around from period cramps.
The body shot looked like it could have put DLH down, but out? Who knows unless your the Golden Boy. As Mayorga said, only Oscar knows that. Oh yah, props to Mayorga for getting up after that body shot from Tito. You must be one tough mofo and have a huge heart to be able to get up from a hard, clean bodyshot .
:p
Dr.Depravity 10-31-2004, 11:28 PM Yeah I gotta admit the dudes got heart. I think he needs to go down in weight. There's money to be made there. Besides he hasnt beat anybody convincingly for a while.

dorin didnt took a liver shot. dorin took a shot in the ribs , and it broke them , plus the impact shocked the whole body. but it the was the power of the shot that generated damage. a pinpoint shot in the liver doesnt need power.
pinkpanther 11-01-2004, 05:56 AM 8.5 - 9 he's as tough as any fighter mixing it today.
SonnyG8R 11-01-2004, 09:05 AM Oscar's heart should not be questioned. I agree with jose. Although I still think the ko he received against hopkins was suspicious.
borikua 11-01-2004, 11:20 AM ok he got some "heart"...but what i have notice from his last fights is that after the 6-7rds he looks exhausted...Nard knew that.. that’s why he waited for the later rounds to finish dlh...Nard was just waiting for Oscar to get tired...Oscar is not a power puncher and he only relies in his speed...
how would you rate it between 1 and 10?

No logic in saying that. You can't compare Hops bodyshot on DLH to Tito's on Mayorga. There's two different punchers and two different punchees.
I see it very simply. Mayorga would not have recovered from Hops bodyshot, much like DLH. Except without the rollin' around etc.
Conversely, DLH probably would have a better chance of recovery from Tito's left to the ribs.
Also, all arguements that DLH is somehow "chicken" are in vain. The man has not ducked anybody, end of story. And, except for thew Hops KO, has always gotten off the deck to keep goin'.

YOU "noticed" something about DLH? Well, the rest of world saw it too. But what about Tito? Did you notice that Hops had Tito was looking pretty much "beat" after 6-7 rounds. DLH might have looked "tired" but he was nowhere near looking "beat" like Tito against Hops.
If you think that Hops should be less regarded because he "was just waiting for Oscar to get tired", then you don't know the Ring game. Of course he's gonna' wait till the other guy (DLH or anybody) get's tired, it's about who out-lasts who.
Also, if you compare Tito's performance versus DLH's performance against Hops, who looked better? Don't get me wrong my friend, I like Tito for what he brings to the Ring, especially his Killer Finish (instincts that all fighters desire), but, Tito simply got his ass kicked by a true Middleweight who just happened to connect on your guy over and over because Tito's style fits exactly the style Hops loves.

Tito looked pretty fk up after the KD in the 12rd but he took a beating for 12rds like a man...what i ment is that Nard didn't put any pressure on Oscar till the 9th..So you say that DLH looked better against Nard...please DLH never had a chance against Nard..at least Tito had the punchers chance on landing a power punch on Nard..And Tito didn't roll around the canvas screaming like if someone stab him in the back...And then go out and say that he tried to do "THE IMPOSIBBLE"...please...
Explosivo 11-01-2004, 03:01 PM I would have given him a 10, but after getting dropped by the ***** looking body shot from Bernard, I will take it down to a 7.

I doubt you can prove it hit DLH on the liver. Unless you have x ray vision.

How the hell can you tell!!??!! It's not like YOU recieved that body shot. You, like all of us, can only speculate. I've sene people TRY to get up from chin shots to body shots. Like I said, DLH just screamed like a little girl. Oh wait it's true, the shot was SO hard he couldn't even TRY to get up...please  ...
no doubt it shouldnt be questioned, hes gotten up from knockdowns to win fights, ducks no-body, but lately makes me wonder, he opens up the investigations (take the loss like a man), cant get up from hops punch, IMO tito hit mayo with a way harder shot than Hopkins punch to dlh. To try and judge the impact of a particular body punch is impossible, yet this is what you are doing. How the hell can you tell that Tito's body shot was harder than Bhop's...you can't. There are variables that play into the punch as well, did Oscar see it? where was the placement? I think Oscar is a warrior, he's not number one on my list but he has heart and I think he still has a big win left in his career. He ran from Tito after outclassing him for the first 7 or 8 rounds, ever sinse then he has wanted Tito in the worst way, yet it sounds like Felix and his pops will never even entertain the idea. Styles make fights as we all know and Felix Trinidad does not have the style to beat Oscar. I don't question Tito's heart for this, he is smart in a way but Oscar should get heart points for fighting everyone and basically pleading with Tito to fight him. Oscar has heart! With some of the criteria that you have written above yopu know who has no heart and no class....Julio Ceasr Chavez...I could go on and on about JC superstar, I am wondering if you are a fan of his?

u got i wrong bro...the rematch never happen cuz they (DLH AND TITO) have a fight on who should get the bigger cut from the revenues of the rematch.

like that fact that someone kept on yelling out loud "body shot" over and over again right b4 the KO, about 5 - 6 times in a row but who's counting, lol

No Tito NEVER had a chance against Hopkins either.
and again NO he didn't take his beating like a man he ran like a school girl back to PR with his tail tucked between his legs.

at least he did better against Nard lol.
Memorex 11-01-2004, 06:42 PM dlh and tito at middle would be a great fight. i rate dlh's heart a 10 because he doesnt quit doing something that he loves to do no matter the punishment he takes in the ring. i cant say that about somebody who quit for two years ( tito trinidad )

DLH squeeked more rounds than Tito but the latter lasted longer.
MetalVomit 11-01-2004, 08:09 PM DLH squeeked more rounds than Tito but the latter lasted longer.
"squeeked"? I'd say he shut Tito out the first 9 rounds. The first could have went either way though, even so, one of the worst decisions ever, yes, worse than DLH/Sturm

DLH DID DO BETTER THAN TITO.

i know your a huge tito fan, but you had to know that Tito couldnt have won more than about 1 round or 2. DLH definently did better against bernard than Tito.
borikua 11-01-2004, 08:28 PM Oh in that case DLH STILL won more rounds and did better than Tito
nahh...Tito did better...btw do u think that DLH can beat Tito at middle?? can he beat anyone at middle? IMO he gets tired to soon cuz the weight and didn't show any power at middle...There is no future for him at 160...

Lol that's too aguable
Compubox had DLH finishing with a 26% and Tito with 39%. Plus he got KTFO in 9. Scoring is your personal interpretation.

I LIKE TITO MORE THAN DLH,BUT IF DLH WERE TO FIGHT MAYORGA AT 160 THE OUTCOME IS THE SAME. MAYORGA HAS NO BUSINESS AT 160,AND THE ONLY REASON TITO KO JOPPY IS CUZ JOPPY WAS ACTING A FOOL. BENARD TOOK EVERYTHING TITO HAD AND DIDN'T EVEN BLINK. WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY IS THAT TITO DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME POWER AT 160. TITO NEEDS TO FIGHT A REAL MIDDLE WEIGHT FOR US TO SEE HOW GOOD HE REALLY IS AT 160.(ATEAST STURM).HE IS KING AT WELTER WEIGHT BUT HERE WE REALLY HAVE TO SEE.

Neuraxis 11-01-2004, 09:47 PM Who won more rounds against Hopkins, DLH or Tito?
Hopkins v. DLH: 79-73, 78-74, 75-77.
Hopkins v. Tito: 109-100, 107-102, 107-102.
Let's see here.
DLH won 1 + 2 + 5 = 8
Tito won 1 + 3 + 3 = 7
8 is greater than 7.
Conclusion DLH won more rounds against Hopkins than Tito did.
phallus 11-01-2004, 10:53 PM dlh looked a lot better against Hopkins than i expected, in the first half of the fight...if he's got the guts to face Sturm again, i'll say he's got heart than i thought he had
Duncan 11-01-2004, 11:21 PM I thought De Lay Hoya actually had a quite a bit of heart until he went down like a $5.00 call-girl against Hopkins. I've watched that tape a dozen times and there is no doubt in my mind that he folded it up and called it a night by his own volition.
He just didn't like the fact Hopkins was getting to him.
That said, however, he showed some steel earlier in his career against Quartey and Vargas especially.
MetalVomit 11-01-2004, 11:24 PM Who won more rounds against Hopkins, DLH or Tito?

HOLY ****!!! I cant believe that the judges actually gave Trinidad a couple rounds, no way he won more than 1, possibly 2. **** that.

Yeah I agree. I had Hopkins pitching a shutout against Tito.
julDilla 11-02-2004, 12:26 AM i remember giving tito only 2 rounds, and those where because he was trowing the harder punches
DLH heart overall 8 last 3-fights 6
FistoftheDallasStar 11-02-2004, 01:36 AM Delahoya has lots of heart and he's has it his whole boxing career- I give him a 9 out of 10. He bit off more than he could chew against Hopkins just like Trinidad did. But what this thread is proving is that Trinidad vs. Delahoya should happen now because lots of people want to see it. I think it will be as close as the first cuz in boxing styles make fights.
