well yesterday we go to leave my moms and all 5 quards of oil are in the street. I am not 100% sure where it all came from...I guess it gould be the oil plug. but i do not think so because the oil seemed to drop from and area higher than te pan. Also the engine is ticking and have exceleration problems. It is a 1990 sable i beleive and the mileage is very high like maybe 150,000 or more

Discuss.

Ok Curly you discuss because i know most of the panty wastes here still live with their moms and dads and are useless.

Check the oil pan gasket, around the filter and the gaskets in the engine itself. Sounds like a gasket problem

I know in my heart it is a gasket problem, I do not know how to check it though?

Is it something visible?

liek a gasket sticking out?

Definetly the gasket.

I used to see that all the time with Mercurys. Well after all, It is made by Ford.

look for oil dripping, it might be the oil filter that came loose. If the problem is gaskets, you're gonna have to take it to a shop unless you have a torque wrench and have done this before.

Replacing the gasket shouldnt cost more than $60.

You'll notice the rubber on the sides of the gasket potruding from the edges of the pan. All it takes is a centameter of space for that kind of oil to spill.

do you think the ticking is because it has been running to hot because of the oil problem?

Oil pressure, young man. That might've cost that problem. My advice is to go one step at a time, fix the oil problem, run the car and check for any oil spills.

If its the filter you will see oil shooting everywhere near the driverside front tire. If thats the case, someone put the double gasket on your oil filter. It the mercury is old, The filter will most likely be a PZ34. Changing it is a pain in the ass.

That where all the smoke comes from... it has close to 160,000 its been good but I highly doubt its fixable, The saturn that died on me last year did the same as soon as it hit the 100,000...by the way, never get a saturn it was a 1999 and I was putting 2 qts of oil every week

I am not a lead foot, that car lasted me well over 5 years and I got to drive over 50 miles a day for work, plus several trips to Chicago :poke:

If you lost 5 quarts while the car was parked and shut off it's not the filter or the gasket. It would be a hole in the pan or a loose drain plug. When the car is shut off all the oil drains to the bottom of the pan and wouldn't be able to get out through the gasket or filter unless the car is running.

Now if you were just exaggerating about the amount of oil then it could be the filter got loose or a main seal or even a gasket. You'll have to clean the oil off everything, refill it then look for the leak.
