-CANE- 06-23-2008, 02:07 PM I've been pretty much everywhere in Italy except Rome. I'm gonna have to get my arse there soon.
If anyone fancies staying in Italy for a holiday, just pm me.
My parents have a 2nd house on Lake Bolsena which they rent out, and my aunt lives in Tuscany and has got about 30 villas for rent. I can send anyone a brochure or give you the website details for both.
MickyHatton 06-23-2008, 02:56 PM I've never been, always fancied it though.
I went skiing in Verona about 20 years ago which is as close as I've got.
Its definately on my bucket list though.

Fantastic place Rome is - the weather is fantastic - watch your wallet on the packed buses. Serious.
We got warned to watch for them, and low and behold some kraut got ransacked in 10 secs by a gang of Romanians. "NIEN NIEN! UNDERMENSCH STEALEN MINE DEUTCHMARKS!"
We lol'd though - because we dislike Germans.

My Grandfather fought in Italy also - was one of the Polish troopers at Monte Cassino.
Did my University dissertation about the allied Italian campaign of WW2. Veeeery interesting.
kayjay 06-23-2008, 05:43 PM Germans aren't rude. You have to understand their manners.

Yeah I know a very little about the campaign but what i do know is quite interesting, I think my Grandad died about a week before the allies took Rome.
I've got a book lined up about Anzio, but i keep putting it off, i must read it.
On a different note, I think anyone who goes to italy soon should really milk the fact that they went out of the euro's.
I ****ing hate the negative attitude they use, ****in glad it backfired.

I'm British. I invented manners fritz!
Which is what i said to him.
No, seriously. I was in top Hugh Grant form..... "excuse me,...hello?...excuse me.. i.. i just need...excuse me?...can I...can I just get passed? Please?... hi?"
This bastard just ignored me. Then this general attitude was the same throughout the rest of the Reich that had got off the tour bus that afternoon.

The majority of the forces landed at Sicily and at the bottom of the "boot" and worked there way (quickly up). The Anzio beach head is at the top right of the boot, they planted forces there to create to fronts. Sadly the Anzio beach head got heavily hammered by the krauts - and caused more of a problem than another front. The rest of the forces then had to quickly attack and relieve the pressure they faced. I was quite kind to the Nazis in my dissertation - noted how effective they were.
kayjay 06-23-2008, 06:03 PM You seen "Life is Beautiful," mick?
I nearly teared at the end when the American soldier stuck his head out of the tank. I said to myself, "that's right, it's a good thing we saved all those soft ass Euros from the Germans."

Did you ever used to watch those war programs with peter and dan snow. They were good, helped me understand a lot of battles that i never knew much about.
This was one of them, they had a whole series about WWII

Nah, i've never seen it.
I'm sure it was another American classic. Does it have Mel Gibson in it, ****ing up history once more? haha
"**** YOU QUEEN VICTORIA! I'M BRAVEHEART *****!! *shoots machine gun*"
The Wire 06-23-2008, 08:02 PM Got a week in Rome then we're going down to the Puglia region where we've got a villa with a pool. Costing me a fortune but it should be good! Rome's the bollocks, we were just walking back from a restaurant and we stumbled across the Da Vinci Code II set! Sat there for about an hour watching Tom Hanks et a hamming it up big time lol. Good times, good times.
As for the AS Roma T shirt, they're nowhere near as plentiful around here as I would have thought!
Rafael Benitez 06-23-2008, 10:29 PM The Sistine Chapel was a bag of ****. Huge disappointment. A poor man's Hagia Sophia. They tried competing with the east but them renaissance boys were just cheap imitations. The Sophia is unique, and alot of the Byzantine Christian Art was conserved during the addition of Islamic art. In Europe, the most amazing places are Hagia Sophia, Alhambra and the exterior of Katedrála svatého Víta(free entry!) in Prague.
