What do you think was the biggest, most defining moment in hip hop? Something that may have been industry-shaking or jaw dropping. THe moment that maybe gave you goosebumps.
I'd say 2Pac dying.
N.W.A. essentially splitting up.
Nas and Jay-Z on stage together was big ****, too.
Your thoughts?

The most defyning moments have all been said but one to be considered is when Ice T released Cop Killa. That had the music industry going crazy.

Also, back in the day Eazy-E dying of AIDs had a pretty sizeable impact.

Sorry I meant West Coast finest not wet coasts finest lol
The Kool Moe Dee /Busy Bee battle. It put the hard-core rap sound on the map (as opposed to fun party rap) made Moe dee a force ( so that he could popularize intelligent lyrics) and introduced the modern way that rappers battle.

Runners up would be the coming of Run DMC, L.L. Cool J (Yeah he became wack years ago but he helped make the hardcore sound that Moe Dee introduced into a phenomena)
Also the coming of Kane and Rakim, or as far as specific events are concerned, the release of the singles Paid in Full and Raw (Rakim gets alot of props, but a whole lot of people extremely underestimate Kane's influence. Every "Playa" rapper from Biggie to Jay Z are pretty much an imitation of Big Daddy Kane).

Without a doubt it's the death of 2pac. It expanded his populairty and added to his legend. And at the same time changed the game. Because with him gone it opened up the lane for so many artists to shine. It also led to the death of Big which was huge also. Plus Pac in was very influential on artists and fans.
Then to me it's Jay vs. Nas. Produced 2 classic albums/diss tracks.

Eazy E's passing was the biggest eye opener that hip hop has ever seen...AIDS wasn't talked about too much until Eazy's death..He never used a rubber and paid the ultimate price..That's when Lifestyles became the biggest condom brand out there..
