View Full Version : Ronaldo is not the best player in the world.
Rafael Benitez 06-19-2008, 11:55 PM The British press may be licking his balls but I am not fooled. He goes missing in big games and even when he scores, he doesn't really run games like Messi or Kaka or evenm DECO! All of Portugal's games in the Euro's so far have been run by Deco. Of course not many people watch other players in Europe during their club seasons so can't really appreciate them. The tabloids here are swinging on his nuts but I think he is grossly overrated. We already know he can't corss with his dirty toe pegs. Since moving to more of a wing-forward/free role under the leadership of Quiroz, he has startred scoring a few more. However, he took a few penalties (and missed some too! With no defenders to beat!) and if you take them away he has scored 24 Premiership goals, the same as Adebayour and the real best player in the world;FERNANDO TORRES LIVERPOOL'S NUMBER NINE!!!!! That's right, he has done the same as Torres in his fourth season. Torres is still adapting to the english game and getting better as he goes along, which therefore means he has done better by scoring same amount of non-pen goals and beating horsefaces debut season record. Discuss.

He will win player of the year and deal with it. Against Arsenal this year at home he scored a penalty and at away got an assist and a goal. His style he plays isn't meant to control the game but win the game at little burst. The other reason he is the best player in the world is the fact, Kaka and Messi had an injured prone season. Ronaldo

I stopped reading after that. I know Liverpool and Man U don't get on but that's just silly.
black.ink 06-20-2008, 04:30 AM If Messi was in the Premiership, then we would all agree he is the best right now.

or Kaka.
Ronaldo isn't the best in the world but he's definitely top 5.
WiganScott 06-20-2008, 05:28 AM Before i even clicked this thread i said to myself, i bet he says Torres is the best.
Addition 06-20-2008, 06:34 AM Based on last season, Ronaldo is by far the best player in the world.
However based on ability he isn't, top 5 at best.
BETTY SWOLLOCKS 06-20-2008, 06:51 AM What you on about Addition? Ronaldo one of the most gifted players ability wise that i've ever seen. He's fast, good upper body strength, can use both feet, does tricks, can head the ball well, scores lots of free kicks, makes lots of assists. I cant think of any other player around today that can boast his attributes to the level he has.
What lets him down is his cojones in the big matches!
Messi was the man in the Barca Man U matches.

You must never have seen Ronaldo (brazilian one) or Ronaldinho in their prime, easily more gifted than Ronaldo.
Anyways, no doubting he's a complete player but overall he isn't the best. I'd say, Kaka, Messi, Ronaldinho (prime) are superior to Ronaldo.
Last season:
1. Ronaldo
2. Messi
3. Kaka
Overall:
1. Messi
2. Kaka
3. Ronaldo
Quiet_Storm 06-20-2008, 07:21 AM He's very good at the things he does, I'd say he's best player in the world currently in terms of his overall consistency and form.
However, his all round game is slacking. Apart from being an active goal threat to the opposition, he doesn't do much else in providing for the team.
His dribbling is woeful at times, i.e. he skips past one player then loses possession or looks for a free-kick when he tries to get by another. And he's been anonymous in many big games against the stronger sides.
You'd think the best player in the world would do more to rally his side to come back against Germany last night

I have seen Ronaldinho in his prime, i went to Barca v Real Sociedad at Nou camp the year they won the CL :D
I take your point though. However my point is that while those players are undoubtedly talented and the difference in ability is all very close. Ronaldo has all the abilities they have plus aerial ability. Maybe Kaka is close, but you can never accuse Ronnie and Messi of being great with their head or having great power.
IMO if Ronaldo had someone like Kaka's big game temperament he would be unstoppable, because he can hurt you from everywhere, right wing, left wing, playmaker, up front, in the air, free kicks.
Doesnt mean i like the guy though. I just cant deny his talent.
abadger 06-20-2008, 07:51 AM Ronaldo is very good in all areas that you might call "individual ability", pace, power, heading, finishing, strength, close control etc. I don't think any player in the world is close to matching his all around game.
However, he is not very good in the departments of vision, creativity and decision making, which is why earlier in his career his tricks were next to useless and why his game now is more about scoring goals and using his physical attributes.
I make him the best player in the world right now, but thats not the same as being the most talented, which is Messi. I think even Rooney on his best days is more "gifted" and "talented" than is Ronaldo.
Dynamite Kid 06-20-2008, 07:55 AM ive always thought Ronny was overated i dont know if its cause im an Arsenal fan and im biased against him but he reminds me of Henry a guy who relys on space to run into ,but in big games where the oposition have high quality defenders and and there is no space in behind the defence and the midfield is compact he is nullified completley just like Henry, when he has to adapt to the situation and use the more technical side of his game instead of relying on pushing the ball past someone and chasing it he is found wanting ,like Henry he is capable of taking poor teams to the cleaners with his pace and finishing and looking like the best player that ever lived
how many times has Ronaldo been in the pocket of Ashley Cole ?Fergie even switched him onto the other flank to try and help Ronnie have more of an impact on the game and i anybody has done more damage against Arsenal since its Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs ,
Ronaldo very good player but one dimmensional IMO
Rooney_MUFC 06-20-2008, 09:01 AM He'll be nothing a Madrid, look at him with Portugal.. An average player, Madrid are no better.
Theyre pretty crap tbh
BOLLOCKS 06-20-2008, 09:09 AM Ronaldo is overrated. He's a stupid player. Rooney is better than him.
baddest 06-20-2008, 11:52 AM Ronaldo sucks. But who has been as consitent as he? Hopefull ythough, Sneijder keeps up his form in this tournament, wins the Euro and sweep the awards in spite of ***naldo
Rafael Benitez 06-22-2008, 11:26 PM I stopped reading after that. That's silly, because the next sentence explains why. I forgot to mention, he is a better finisher too. Twinkle toes is a wing forward who doesn't offer much outside the box so should be judged as a goalscorer, which is all he is. In his first season in England he scored 4 goals in all comps. Enough said.
Think what you want but I'm not having a laugh, he really is the next King Kenny. Watch, just wait and see when I take my team to a historic double, treble or even quad next season! I did it at Valencia with less resources, and I will do it here for sure! Plus we have Steven Gerrard, Gerrard, who is well hard, well hard!
Rafael Benitez 06-22-2008, 11:36 PM Before i even clicked this thread i said to myself, i bet he says Torres is the best.
Why didn't you think Gerrard? TBH Torres is the next best thing, but Gerrard really should have been FIFA POTY in 2005 and 06. He pretty much single handedly took an average team with some mediocre players (Traore) and only a few decent ones (Riise, Alonso, Garcia and erm, that was it) through tp the knockout stages and then on to a final! 3-0 down, and it hasn't been done since black and white days and he grabs the game by the sruff of the neck to go on to win it! Of course my tactics and pure genius was a huge influence, but I could not have done that or the FA Cup coup where Crouch ragged Man Ure along the way without him!
