DA1CATAS 06-16-2008, 05:46 PM Wassup guys.... here are my fights.. the first is cut but the championship match is full..
plzz lemme know what ya think and give me some constructive words so i can know what i need to work on. Even if you see someone else say it Say it again so i can know what to be looking at. I see my right drop a few times on my jab.. more like alot of the time but i just can't seem to think about that while im fighting.. I'm still working on that.
You can tell me good things if ya like... but put some stuff ya see wrong in there too because i wanna go to ringisde world championships and i need every bit of tip/help i can get from anyone who sees anything.
Anyway I hope you guys enjoy the vid.
lol.. Nate campbell says im lean big for my weightclass at 165... he kept mentioning how bigger i was than like all 50 of the 165's there.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHAbi8YtNXM&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHAbi8YtNXM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Theres more footage of nate and some other stuff you guys might like.. but i think you deserved a lil less hype and more fight on this vid lol..since you put up with my other vids lol..
ENJOY!
RonRoss 06-16-2008, 06:06 PM Well done Da1, You've come a long way.
Few things i noticed which you probably know, Your hooks are really wild and kind of slap when your up close, When your at a distance it throws you off balance a little bit cause you really reach out to hit the target.
You backed up quite a lot in this fight and threw the jab when it was obvious it wasn't gonna land.
Overall your pretty scrappy, But you don't give up .. Your in sick shape and wanna improve yourself everyday .. Keep it up.
And post the rest, I like your lil' documentary type videos and i wanna see some more footage of you meeting Nate :D

Yea man... i don't know.. I'm like Hook trigger happy.. I try to land it from anywhere no matter how far i am..
And yea i do tend to throw the jab when i know its not gonna land.. thats a problem i have.
And yes again i do slap with the hook very often,.... I still have so much to work on.. Thanx for pointing that out.
lol Nate is a funny man.. he just kept on saying how full he was and how his kids hit him up for money all the time... He also kept telling me how i was big for a 165... and that really excited me because.. well he has 3 belts and is a professional... I got some confidence from that.

lol... i got some much footage of him making fun of Joan Guzman... He also told me how he would beat guzman because he definitely won't resist as much as juan diaz did...then he went into detail...
Joan guzman is good though lol... BUT of course i went with Nate campbells Flow!

Haha yeh i cant see " Nate ... Guzman would whoop you " Going down too well :lol1:
Upload the rest man, Whats next for you anyway? Got anything planned? Fight wise?
P4PKING_2008 06-16-2008, 06:29 PM What did the ref stop ya for as soon as the bell went? Your hooks are a bit wild and you seem to jump up after you miss it leaving you off balance. And you seemed to paw at the jab more than sticking it with more power.
Just some advice bro. Good luck.

good stuff my man, you really commit to your punches and are not scared to mix it up. If I had one thing to say it would be, be careful throwing those looping lefts so much as you are caught off balance some times and when the competition gets better you may get countered off balance, especially by a left with a str8t left...
Congrats and you move very well...
PS: I have the same man love for the looping left without setting it up so I feel you.

The guy came out and wanted to tap gloves with me...So i tapped gloves The ref told him "Don't do that again. I said box not be friends"
tough ref i guess... and thanx for the hook info.. i gotta fix that.
and yea my jab is a constant range finder... lol EVEN when i know im not in range... lol.. Thanx again.

thanx man....so it looks like my balance and pawing jab are my biggest problems... i will definitely work on those.
Pork Chop 06-16-2008, 07:10 PM First fight I was thinking "hrm, wish he had more lateral movement".
In the second fight you kinda corrected that.
Right off the bat in the second, I was thinking "man, if he threw that big hook behind the jab, he'd probably catch him" - then you started doubling up on your hook & catching the guy.
The distance with the jab could use work but will come with experience.
I thought you got a lil wild on some of the big hooks and the combos, but if you can settle down and get lethal when you smell blood (instead of bloodthirsty); I'm sure you'll fix that right up.
I agree with the other poster who saw a couple slappy hooks, mixed in with the wild ones and the good ones- part of that might be tightening it up, bringing the elbow higher when the range is closer.
Otherwise, very nice stuff!

!! Shawn 06-16-2008, 07:35 PM Eh, it was okay, I know you can do better DA1. I have seen you find those openings in sparring, the noticeable difference was how tense you were.
You didn't look as loose as I have seen you. Your punches didn't flow like I have seen them.
Good job on pulling out the win, but I know that you could have done twice as good.
I actually liked your range finder jab. Its an under used tool. You don't have to throw ever punch with the intention of landing, some times its good to just stick a punch out there to confuse the guy.
A great example is that stupid looking jab Hector Camacho use to stick out there even when it was like 2 feet short of an opponent.
sterling 06-16-2008, 08:02 PM nice wide hooks though and you throw it the power way that way of throwing hooks doesnt score much points you should try to throw a hook with your palm facing down its hard to get use to but it gives you more points.

You can throw a hook tight with the palm facing outwards, Trainers teach you palm down to get used to that rotation of the body, Once you have that .. Palm up for power.
sterling 06-16-2008, 08:06 PM whats your record now?
guzi815 06-16-2008, 08:08 PM Yo, What's up DA1! That's was some good stuff, thanks for sharing. I think your counter's, very accurate. Ay, did you spar with that dude before?? It's like you timed his right hand to a tee! I was wondering when you was gonna bang his right side, since that was the weakness I saw in him, I did see you sneak in a couple when he tied you up. You're a head hunter, aren't you !! LOL!! Ay, man, overall, good stuff. You applied plenty of pressure. I saw a little anxiety at times, and you're reflexes...very impressive. Again man, thanks for sharing.

It scores more points because its seen more clearly at least thats how it is in british amatuers heh.

I'm British :) .. Yeh your right my trainer told me it scores more points, Doesn't hurt too much though :lol1:
Gato2012 06-16-2008, 10:00 PM Congrats man, job well done. You made a goal, worked very hard, stayed motivated, and accomplished that goal. Very good job man.
makes me wanna go train right now! Unfortunately i will be in Orlando all summer and there are NO gyms in Orlando. Hopefully i will be back in MA for the Rocky Marciano tournament, i won it last year.
King James III 06-17-2008, 12:44 AM Good fight...a few slaps wit da hook( yea i tend to do it 2) but overall good victory dude.
TheTruthIs 06-17-2008, 02:38 AM Paper work for ringside needs to be in by June 28th I believe. Runs Aug. 5-9.
Good luck if you go.
GreatestIam 06-17-2008, 02:57 AM only thingi see is you fight to tall maybe thats how you do it but seem like your to stiff and could put more movement in your punching
DA1CATAS 06-17-2008, 08:04 AM only thing i see is you fight to tall maybe thats how you do it but seem like your to stiff and could put more movement in your punching
Hmmm... Ok i see what your talking about... what you thinking? Bend a lil forward?....
I bend forward when i spar..I'm not thinking as hard when i spar so its easy......... And yea i do look pretty stiff like my back has plates in it...But yea.. Bend forward? alot more movement? or ???

Ya but for some reason i don't put as much power in them as my offensive punches..... You udnerstand what I mean?
Anyone know what problem that could be?
Congrats man, job well done. You made a goal, worked very hard, stayed motivated, and accomplished that goal. Very good job man.

Hey Thanx man... I appreciate that alot!!! didn't see anything wrong though?...and hey You know i stay in florida too now? Even though i go home back north like everyday.
Good fight...a few slaps wit da hook( yea i tend to do it 2) but overall good victory dude.
Yea the ref told me to make sure i use the white par of the glove once.... He also stopped us and told us not to touch gloves at all. I really am going to concentrate on fixing that problem b4 my next fight.
the_godslayer 06-17-2008, 10:16 AM Hey DA1, how goes it friend?
there is a real good basis there for you to work on, forget the slappy hooks, id put that down to nerves.
you need to work a little on your footwork and movement .... remember the scene in Rocky where Micky says to him "you gotta be greasy" its the "catch the chicken" scene ?
movement is the key for you, especially head and shoulder movement, you could evade a lot more punches with that sort of movement and it will get your feet moving and help to create the angles for more punches.
as for the jab, i would double up the power jab, you are likely to be bigger than many you face @ 165 so finding range wont be too much of a problem. The double jab can be combined with the hook or switched downstairs really quickly and a guy with your sort of physique looks like you will have power in spades and i can tell you from experience that a good jab to the body hurts!!!. If you need to develop power then its the classics really, i used to throw hooks in the gym with dumbells in my hands and do the usual things like pound the heavy bag and hit the tyre etc but TBH you look built enough as it is so that doesnt look like a problem to me.
you look like you could go far IMO, if i think of anything else constructive ill let you know dude.

Hey man... thanx and You don't need luck.. You should know right now whether you will win or not.. But im sure you will because you say you train hard...
Man but on a downside my coaches took me out to dinner tonight and told me they won't be able to train me anymore. 1 of my coaches is leaving and the other has to move 3 hours away....
Now im a coach-less winner... don't really know who i can go to now. :nonono:Things just seem to happen at the wrong time for me.:nonono:... guess i'll just train until i can find someone good.... This ish really sucks man.. im kinda down right now... gyms gonna be weird 2mora for me.

damn broo that does suck, i have a very good relationship with my coach so i know it can be sad to lose him, its almost like having a friend moving away, but do what you do when that does happen, cry as much as you need to ( just an expression) and keep on, dont let this interfere with your amibitions.
Still the cycle with your old coach ended great, with a gold medal on the state games, get a new one and hopefully the next cycle will end on a national medal or who knows something bigger :)
thx for the comment i know i will do good, i have really done my homework this time around and that boosts my confidence. I ll do my best to bring a friend over and have him record it, because i dont have a cam of my own.
Trrmo 06-17-2008, 10:59 PM well done, good work for first fights. Nice punching but you look flatfooted and heavy on the feet alot of the time. Maybe could practice by doing a few rounds in the ring without punching moving in one direction then quickly changing, forward/backwards to improve foot speed and rhythm. good luck

Thanx alot... im going to work hard on movement.
Hey guys I'm seriously taking all your tips to heart...Even more so now that my coaches are leaving me.
Landon S 06-17-2008, 11:59 PM Hey man good job, I still dont have much ring experience so I wouldnt feel right trying to give you advice. Everybody has givin you alot of compliments on your build, shape, etc etc so I wont say that either. But youve got a good attitude and are willing to take advice and work hard and thats great man. I think thats better than being built mean, of course being built 'mean' doesnt hurt lol
P4P rJjR 06-18-2008, 01:12 AM Good Stuff keep working hard
aussieboxer2320 06-18-2008, 05:51 AM heaps good man. keep it up
jberg 06-18-2008, 08:43 AM really good to see someone do well from this forum. you fought well and looked in great shape.
mgkirkpatrick 06-18-2008, 09:05 AM nice work mate. though there probably wasnt any need.. with the shape you are in.. i would have pushed the pace a little more.. you won every exchange and im sure you could have worn that dude down. nice fluid jab.. id probably look to touch the body a little more often just to set up the head shots.
well done
Trrmo 06-18-2008, 09:16 AM Watch how the world amateur champ (2005 & 2007) at your weight division moves around the ring. Matvey Korobov (Russia - blue) vs. Aiba Alfonso Blanco (Venezuela). Matvey is a Southpaw, but look how light he is on his feet and how he moves in all directions.

The cuban olympic team are coming to my gym in Quito to train at altitude for a week which I cant wait to see.

oo of course not lol... I would of had to show more to win at open... These guys obviously didnt pressure me enough when they had to to win... Once I knew I had the rounds won I just backed off and let it go..
I just wanted the win... could have stopped both guys prally.....thats what nate said..coaches said it too.. but I just wanted to make sure I would come out with this win definitely.
