View Full Version : Got tooled on tonight in sparring
danny stash 06-12-2008, 09:58 PM Sparred a couple with a world class fighter tonight and got tooled on. I outweighed him by like 35 lbs but he made me wear 26oz gloves to his 10oz gloves. I am so ****ing pissed off right now. The whole gym was watching and I totally abandoned my jab and he caught me with like 4 overhand rights over my lazy short jab. What a **** night....:nonono:
THAULTIMATE 06-12-2008, 10:13 PM First of all the fact that you wore huge ****ing gloves and he wore ****ing fight gloves and you allowed this prove you are a ****ing retard. Especially seeing as hes a pro and you dont even outweigh him all that much anyways. **** that 10 oz gloves are never to be used in sparring wow this just annoys me. I suggest next time you just get down on your knees and let him tee of on your head idiot. Use 16 or 18 oz gloves in sparring ......some people.
Pork Chop 06-12-2008, 11:16 PM ThaUltimate's being a bit harsh, but he has a point.
26 ounce gloves don't just make you hit softer, they ruin your technique and make you move slow as mud.
Even 16 ounce gloves compared to 10 is a bit of a mismatch; and I go through that one on a regular basis, so I can relate.
I understand that b!tching about glove sizes can make you come off like a whiner, that most people in the gym will have a "just suck it up" attitude; but in cases like that you really need to keep an eye out for your health.
The guy basically used you to make himself look good.
If he's really world class, then he needs to wear the 26ers and let you wear the 10s.
Versastyle 06-12-2008, 11:18 PM I've never heard the term tooled on, just schooled on.

yeah i think he means "I got tooled tonight in sparring", which makes a bit more sense.
Versastyle 06-12-2008, 11:21 PM Sparred a couple with a world class fighter tonight and got tooled on. I outweighed him by like 35 lbs but he made me wear 26oz gloves to his 10oz gloves. You sure they were 26oz gloves? I would of made the other person wear 16oz. They're not God.
26oz? Is that like Sock-em Boppers? First of all why the **** did you agree to that?
danny stash 06-13-2008, 12:35 AM 26oz? Is that like Sock-em Boppers? First of all why the **** did you agree to that?
Listen guys I understand all the criticism but I was supposed to spar some other guys and they finished by the time I was warm and I just asked to go a couple rounds lite and I put on my 16's and he was like, no way; you wear these...
I was caught in the heat of the moment and just excited to be getting in with a guy like him and didnt even look at his gloves until the bell rang. The hole ****ing gym was watching and what was I going to stop???
To the idiot Thaiultimate above you are ****ing asswipe and I have no patience for people like you. You probably have never gotten in ring much less got popped in that wise ass mouth of yours. To the others, yes I made a mistake and I know but what would you do stop and say I am not sparring you. Its not very often you can spar with guys who are successful pros.
As far the expression "tooled on" I grew up in Long Island NY and it was a popular expression.
I am still ****ing pissed.

COLINSRI 06-13-2008, 07:38 AM Nightmare.....at least you had big gloves to protect your face from the onslaught....

HAHA, that was the first thing that came to my mind! LMAO
Darkstranger 06-13-2008, 11:27 AM The 10oz gloves shouldn't have been allowed, surely that's against health and safety regulations I would've thought.
Don't beat yourself up too much over the beat down. You've got a fight coming up and you were thrown in the deep end for a purpose. Leading up to my fight the other day (which was cancelled] I was thrown in with an experienced light heavyweight who hit me all over the place. I had to put my knee down on the canvas at one stage. I woke up the next day battered and bruised. My coaches threw me in with this guy to get me out of a comfort zone I'd got myself into of slowing the pace and not throwing enough punches and lacking a killer instinct. Man I learnt a whole lot that night and I've been training and dieting and running like an animal ever since. At the time it felt like a public humuliation as everyone was watching and witnessed the biggest man in the gym get a serious whuppin! But the feeling soon passe d once I sat down and thought about what I did wrong and what I could've done better.
Like one of your previous posts, see this as an epithany. You're feeling frustrated at the mo, that's normal bro. Just sit back and try and think about what you'd do next time you're in the ring with the same guy. Next time insist that you both wear 16 to 18oz gloves though!

What he said...
use this as fuel to fire you through the training, to the fight.
take it out on your opponent.
danny stash 06-13-2008, 12:59 PM thanks fellas...I am taking this as motivation to train harder and smarter.
rizkybizness 06-13-2008, 04:36 PM It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
I hope i've inspired you.
Towelie 06-14-2008, 01:42 AM SRy bout this bro, sounds like a ****ty night, espicially since a pro played you out like that wtf, should have headbutted him or something.
aussieboxer2320 06-14-2008, 08:32 PM what the ****????????????? i didnt even know they made ****ing 26 oz gloves!!!!!!!! he wore 10's and you wore gloves almost triple the size!!! why did you let him get away with that?? and hes hands would have faster since he was lighter than you too. if hes a pro the weight diffference shouldnt matter too much you should both be wearing 16's
but if hes world clas it shouldnt bother you too much to get whooped a bit. im 14 (light flyweight) with only 1 amateur bout and i sparred a 16 year old state welterweight champion runner up national champion with 30 fights and he whooped me without even trying lol so dont worry if you get beaten up by amore experienced guy its all bout learnin
RUSTYBOXER 06-15-2008, 08:17 PM i would of took off my gloves and delt with him another way, if i found out when the bell rang that they were 26 oz gloves and he had 10 on. imo pretty ****ty
potatoes 06-15-2008, 11:34 PM Sparred a couple with a world class fighter tonight and got tooled on. I outweighed him by like 35 lbs but he made me wear 26oz gloves to his 10oz gloves. If a world class fighter wants you to wear 26 oz gloves he mush be worried about your capability. Should we not then conclude that you are world class as well?
