View Full Version : Left side is hurting...Please help!
danny stash 06-11-2008, 07:03 PM I am training for a fight in August and starting to step up the training. I rely alot on a stiff jab and my whole left side from back to front and back of shoulder down to the elbow and wrist is getting ultra sore to the point where after a few days of intense training I cant even go more than 4-5 rounds on the heavy without my left shoulder-upperback tightening so much that it basically will freeze up and I drop my left. In the area where my shoulder blade connects to my back their is a BALL of muscle and tissue or whatever that is so friggin tight that if I push it against the corner of a wall and massage it; it becomes unbearably painful. Should I deal with the pain and rub it out and it will get better or could it be a calcium deposit of some sort. I used to lift heavy weights for years and was quite bulky but have shelved the heavy weights for some time now. Question is; is this muscle tightness, calcium deposits or what? Also, should I just buck up and stop being a puss and massage it out. I will do it but dont want to injure myself or something.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kenny91 06-11-2008, 07:19 PM dude this is the exact thing i had but my useless doctors didnt have a clue (i actually thought for a moment 'ive got M.E!' lol) they just said rest it.
Which i never it kinda just sorted it self out, i carried on with conditioning n some training but not as intense, just enough keep it busy, rest barely helps injuries for me so i work on it but not too much.
basically do less bag work and more conditioning and probably light sparring for now and just up the ante bit by bit.
How long have u had this? mine was just a week or so and its starting to feel a lot better.
Work on it but give it rest every now and then n dont strain ur muscles too much.
danny stash 06-11-2008, 07:26 PM I have had it on and off for months...
sucks

It could be a problem with your joint mobility.
****, www.t-nation.com.
Look up all their articles on jooint mobility and joint mobility tests, cause what you are describing really looks like that sort of problem.
kenny91 06-11-2008, 07:29 PM hopefully it will sort itself out but id still advise to ask the doctor about it. But i think too much rest will probably make it worse as will intense work on it so just keep it on a subtle and sensible level.
Hope it gets better and good luck for August ;)
Pork Chop 06-11-2008, 09:42 PM Hey man, sorry to hear about the injury.
If others have experience with that, better listen to them, but i thought it sounded like a serious muscle strain, possibly a contusion to the muscle in the back - I have a contusion on the muscle in the front next to the shin right now & have similar issues with a hard lump in the muscle.
If it's a strain, I'd suggest ice, compression, heat, elevation.
Also a good sports massage or rolfer, possibly some acupuncture.
A nice relaxing session in the sauna, steam bath, and/or hot tub wouldn't hurt either.
When I get sore, a bath with epsom salt can work wonders as well.
In my own training, i hit the wall last friday - limping through an intense training session.
The "minor" injuries just added up to be a little too much to continue pushing through, so I'm taking this week off. I think it was good timing, because I've been very sluggish this week even with the time off, having to take sleep aides to be able to sleep through the pain - I think i was very close to burn out.
I guess my point is, don't be afraid to take a day here or there, or a week once in a while, to get fresh again- as long as you've got the time to get back up to speed before your fight.
Remember, you want to peak in time for the fight, not just break your body down to the point you have nothing left & hope a couple days rest before the fight will put you back to normal.
Good luck

PunchDrunk 06-12-2008, 05:09 AM You need to go to a doctor or a physical therapist.
