Saw the thread in the main lounge about Lock Stock, so thought I'd see what great films Britain has pulled out over the years.

Dead Man's Shoes
Paddy Considine is ****in great in this, gripping storyline, about a bunch of druggies who befriend a disabled lad, they take the piss out of him and his ex army brother comes back to get revenge on em all.

This is England
Watched it the other night on Film Four, top quality, what I liked most about it was the fact, Thomas Turgoose who played the little lad Shaun, had been kicked out of school and was a bit of a tearaway had never acted in his life, and was superb in the film.

Thing is with all these British films that I seem to like, they're all realistic not over the top stuff, no special effects.

This is england is ****ing quality, probably the best film i saw last year, let alone british film.

My all time fave brit film would probably be scum, not because it's a great film, it's not britains best, but because it's got some of the most used lines ever in it from a brit film.

I also like shaun of the dead, quite good fun.

I like Scum. I remember being quite shocked by it at first. The Greenhouse scene is most definitely one of the most graphic scenes in British cinema, if not just cinema.

Imagine that scene in a time in which Bruce Lees "Enter the Dragon" is banned - where as today that film would probably be a 15, if not 12 rating.

Scum is brilliant. Fantastic acting, by some of Britains best "local" talent...

Winstone was also a fan of boxing. Known to his friends as Winnie, at home he was called Little Sugs (his dad already being known as Sugar – after Sugar Ray Robinson). At age 12, Winstone joined the famous Repton Amateur Boxing Club and, over the next 10 years, won 80 out of 88 bouts. At welterweight, he was London Schoolboy Champion on three occasions, fighting twice for England. The experience gave him a perspective on his later career: "If you can get in a ring with 2000 people watching and be smacked around by another guy, then walking onstage isn't hard."

i love withnail and I (i was thinking earlier how i fancied watching it but didnt' have a copy)

Winstone is a tough ****er and after being a spectator at teh junior ABA's a number of tiems.. i can tell you Repton is a formidable club. They win ALOT of titles, and have fantastic amatuers.

Brilliant club. Brillaint bloke.

It was on Film4 I think, not sure.

You should see it though, it's very dark and deals with some sensitive issues, but you are just compelled to watch.

If you can, get a hold of it, you won't be disappointed.

Yea I watched it again the other night, can't believe that the young lad never acted before, it's almost like a documentary, some of the comments he makes are quite funny aswell.
