View Full Version : Career in the Navy.
mickeyb 06-07-2008, 06:02 PM I keep thinkin... its making me think more and more about going for it.
The open sea, the life, the comradeship, the travel...
I've got the fitness and the education.
I could join the officer corp straight away.
What you think? Should I shut the **** up?
Im frightened i'll hit 40 and regret not going for it
Duggie 06-07-2008, 06:04 PM go for it son then set sail straight for Argentina and start the Falklands part 2. Seriously though go for it, If you don't like it leave but better knowing than spending your older years regretting it
mickeyb 06-07-2008, 06:07 PM i think your right Dugg mate and i respect your view more than anybodys.
Maybe i should visit a careers advice bureau sometimes soon.
One thing though - you think i'll miss out on some of the piss ups if i'm joining the officers instead of the ratings?!

Pot Noodle 06-07-2008, 06:14 PM Out of all the armed forces the Navy is the best, there's no sea warfare anymore, so you're pretty safe, you travel the world, but I'm guessing you're away from home a lot more than you would be in the RAF, or just Army. The navy or the army is something I'm thinking about joining in the future, but I've got some ****ing about to do for a few years before I make a decision like that.
mickeyb 06-07-2008, 06:18 PM well i'm 23. i box.
And that's my hobby.
If i join the Navy, maybe i'll fight for them.
I'm gonna book an appointment.

You would do. But fight for them? You would have to be awesome.
You don't need an appointment just walk in and ask them. Thats what Idid.
Duggie 06-07-2008, 06:24 PM yeh the careers office will greet you warmly but don't be put of by bias, my recruiter told me not to join the paras and join 1 Scots cause that was his regiment, you will find that, stick to your guns but you will be given plenty of info on what you need to know

There is a roll in which i'd be the ships writer. Record logs, write important letters...reports, issue notices.
I may not type like a saint on here, but I have a high level of English, which I'd enjoy using. Failing that... i'd just enjoy being at sea.
Spambo boy 06-07-2008, 07:11 PM Just thought i'd google some images for you as mile and demdzas aren't about.

That sounds pretty boring to me tbh. Writing? I guess there isn't much glamour with being in the navy. You would be surrounded by sea all the time which I can imagine would bore you to death after a few months.
Good luck though mate.

My mate Ben.,... he left. Came back last month and we went for a pint. Tells me he's been to Greenland, Iceland, America, Canada...Australia, S.America..HongKong..
but he forgot to tell me other places.
I log on to his facebook cos he tells me he's on there.
Photos of him in Bermuda...St.Lucia.. the cunts spent 2 months in the Bahamas getting pissed with his shipmates.
He didn't seem to bored.

:O ****. Now thats living. They said at the RAF career in Preston when I went there. They told me that you get paid as well to be in another country and flight pay on top of your wages hahah. Plenty of money to piss about with all over the world. Doing **** all. When ya signing up? Thats enough encouragement ya need. Better pay, all around the world, and easier work.
I meant boring job just writing **** up. But, rest would be awesome.
mickeyb 06-07-2008, 07:27 PM I think on the ship...most jobs would be boring. It's quite industrial. I like boats as sad as it sounds.
I don't know. In the morning, i'll talk myself out of it, as much as i've talked myself into it tonight.
Duggie 06-07-2008, 07:30 PM and to think I'm re-enlisting with the paras to do the dirty work with the ****ty pay

Yeah it does sound a lot like that.
You would think in like 3 weeks when ya break up for summer. **** the navy and relax for 6 weeks lol. You should go to the careers place and tell them your intereste dand they will help you out loads and motivated me a lot. They are pretty sound as well not the like huge harsh people ya see on the flms.
Duggie 06-07-2008, 07:38 PM bear in mind the recruiter gets paid to have people enlist they aint gonna have you march out the office with your pants round your ankle like Pvt Pyle in full metal jacket
Team Mayweather 06-07-2008, 07:39 PM and to think I'm re-enlisting with the paras to do the dirty work with the ****ty pay
Ayo duggie. Do ya know hwo accurate on the raf websites the jobs that are listed as urgently needed are? Or do they just change every few months regardless to encourage more to look at the jobs?
Duggie 06-07-2008, 07:40 PM **** knows mate, I know sweet fa about the RAF and the Navy
Team Mayweather 06-07-2008, 07:45 PM **** knows mate, I know sweet fa about the RAF and the Navy
Alright mate no worries. It has pilot listed as urgently needed. I know thats a lie lol. It one of the most desired jobs in the whole armed forces ffs.

Team Mayweather 06-07-2008, 07:56 PM not If you are a Nimrod pilot with whats been happening the last few years

Depends on what ship your on, If your put on a type 23 Frigate or above they all have gyms.
Do it mate. You will live your whole life regretting it. I know a few lads who have been in, or stil are in the forces. The places they have been, and strong friendships they have formed make me envious sometimes. If I could stand being away from booze I'd do it myself.
Sign up pal, and good luck.
