"Action" genre is sometimes tough to define. It's not one of my favorites but I'll do my best:

1. Planet of the Apes (1968)
2. Scarface (1983)
3. Seven Samurai (1954)

In the event that you view these as 1. Sci-Fi 2. Drama 3. Drama, I will list my favorite films with lots of guns and bad guys getting kicked in the head:

3. Face/Off (1997)

This year, I've been impressed with Spider-Man 2 and Kill Bill (Vol.2 moreso than 1)

Yeah, it's an outstanding flick. There is the best knife fight I've ever seen in that movie.

Goodfella's and the God Father are two of the best movies ever, but I don't consider them "action movies".
